Morman

I just think recruiting in general has really changed. These kids are calling LeBron-esque televised shows when they announce their decision. They take to Twitter, Instagram and they make it a huge deal. Then they probably have family, friends, etc. blowing up their phones asking why they aren't seeing any playing time. I think they (some players) just expect more, and don't want to put the hard work in.

Duke had 8 scholarship players for most of the season due to transfer and discipline. Coach K can't recruit.

If you start losing guys in the rotation there is cause for concern. If you lose guys at the back of the roster, there is little to no impact...

That's certainly true. But I do feel there was an impact in the Kentucky game when we had to turn to Quadri. We had already lost Strickland and Moore had barely even been playing at all, even without the suspension. In no way was he prepared for that moment. And it definitely had a negative impact. Imo it'd just be nice to start the year with 13 players. Even if we ended up with that Gnahore guy, at least the bodies are there.

Not sure what point you're making, if any. Strickland was the 12th man and wasn't going to play all year. They tried to get Quad minutes to have him more ready, but nearly every time the result was a momentum changing run for the opponent. What does Quad not being ready have to do with using 13 scholarships? He was the 8th or 9th guy and struggled to see the floor.

Using 13 is pretty much pointless, and there aren't more than a small handful of teams that use more than 10 regularly in games. The result is guys in spots 10-13 look to leave and find a spot that allows them to get on the floor. When you are losing guys in spots 1-8, be as concerned as you want...

We're losing diamond in rough type players, nothing to major. At the sane time I'll always give my last scholarships to local guys unless I'm getting a lance type player. Every player see us play and automatically believe their missing piece. I still say it was grades over attitude. Like I keep saying Mick has a horrible attitude himself.

Bulldog, I have heard the same thing about grades but it (understandably) has been kept very quiet.

This is spot on. UC is losing 9-13 guys (Morman, Strickland, Davis, etc.) who think they should be 1-8 guys, with the possible exception of Lawrence.

smh, they got suspended when grades came out. I was born at night but not last night. You don't kick guys off team for bad attitude. What kid away from home isn't going to have attitude problems. Guys aren't going to class.

9-13 players today with hope of becoming 1-5 players of future. Duke, Ky, Kansas are always going to get players every year that's better than their 9-13. We pray our guys develop so when their JR/SR they have physical and mental advantage.

I'm just saying I agree that losing 1 end of roster guy has little to no impact, but we're losing way more than that. Obviously Quadri wasn't ready, so it would've been nice to have a JR bench guy to turn to. I'm just saying I'd take a guy like Gnahore over no one just bc in 3 years, we might need him as an experienced program guy in case the Quadri/Morman/Guyn/JD3/Lawrence/Strickland situation happens. We always leave open scholarships, then our recruiting classes get cut in half a year or 2 in and we're constantly short-handed.

And Duke's 8 scholarship players all were McDonald's All Americans. Good comparison...

Those guys might not have been in the rotation this year, but there was a decent likelihood of them being in the rotation in the future. If there wasn't any likelihood than it's terrible recruiting. Instead UC ends up with guys like Guyn and Sanders who shouldn't be in the rotation in the first place.

People are seriously worried about players like Morman and Strickland leaving?

I guess it's the offseason and nothing is going on, but who cares. As long as Mick is using the scholarships in another place, then it is a positive for the school. The talent level is going up, some guys are frustrated because they see the writing on the wall so they leave. No big deal.

You cannot allow players like Morman to bring the other guys down with him.

Even guyn quit on team

Ellis strong arming guys out there on court. Quit it guys Mormon attitude had nothing to do with him leaving

I won't speak for others but I'm not particularly worried that Morman and Strickland are gone. Though I do think Morman had potential. I'm more concerned with the sheer number of players leaving the program and the large number of misses by the coaching staff and the effect it will have a few years down the road. The bust of what was the 2011 recruiting class really hurt this year. And frankly the 2010, 2011, and 2012 recruiting classes were really bad. Now that Morman is leaving, the 2013 class is looking pretty bad too.

Kids transfer all the time. Look at how many from other programs are available right now, most of these recruits were the star in H.S and they come to college and there are players as good or better ahead of them. These kids want to come in and play not wait so they transfer. Uc is no different than any other good program. At good programs its hard to get immediate playing time and some recruits have trouble waiting a year or so for that time

It should probably be pointed out, especially to Chad, that Guyn was a rotational player. In fact he started all games last year and started the only two games he played in before being hurt. Like him or not (I was never a huge fan), chances are he was going to get major minutes this year.

For me, it is irrelevant if it is a College Bball problem or a UC problem. The last 3 years we have had an open roster spot entering the season (might be more than last 3). Point is, if in 2012 we had added a HS player to the Nyarsuk/Rubles class, we might not have been in a situation where we basically had 7 players in the tournament and Quadri Moore was called on out of desperation. If we had the foresight to add a Gnanore type (I'm just saying he'd be a last resort type signing that's why I use him), then we could've had a JR or RS SO to come in the game instead of Quadri Moore. Someone who at very least knows where to be and what we're trying to accomplish. If we're acknowledging that players are going to leave (regardless of the reason), and we always seem to be inexperienced/young/short-handed, doesn't the the fact that we intentionally leave spots open insinuate that the recurring problem is somewhat self-inflicted?

Are you suggesting UC should be able to compete with UK, KU & Duke for recruits? If so, that's not realistic. Duke has lost players--they had only 8 scholarship players at end of the year. Louisville is losing 2-3 this year as is Syracuse and several other big-time programs. Morman was not going to play here much anyway with Caupain & Johnson , Cobb, Jennifer, et al.

And? He was hurt and couldn't play. He then saw others claim his spot and asked for his release. He knew there wouldn't be minutes for him next year, and I know that because it is what he told me directly...

Quadri Moore was put in that game for his size and to foul. For some reason he shot a terrible 3 that led to a fast break basket for Kentucky. If he made the 3, we would think differently, but he was not in that game for his offensive abilities. He should have known better. Then he ended up on a UK poster and gained thousands of Twitter followers just by getting dunked on. He was actually trending lol (in the wrong way)
