National Title

I'd rather have the regular season mean something. Why play the games? Just go straight into the BE tourney. If all a team does is play for a seed, who caresif they finish first or fourth, fifth or 8th?

I agree with you and Ralph on this.

March Madness is exciting, but the Whole College Football season is exciting. Each game means the difference in making a BCS Bowl. Also more often than not, the two best teams in college football end up meeting eachother for the right to be national champs.

The problem with the playoff system is it all comes down to who is hot at the right time. Where the BCS system takes into account the entire season.

Do you really think Butler is better than Syracuse??

You hammered? One, busting out cerebral!? Do you know the meaning of this word?

Two. This will be the most boring game in the history of basketball. Why? Because a bunch of non athletes, like yourself, are playing. You claim to know "college basketball"... I claim ill beat you one on one, on bearcatnews. You went MIA, no response. You talk a big talk, but what makes you the basketball legend? Cause that title has been claimed, by me.

How many times does it take for you to understand that athletes don't always equal best basketball players? High basketball IQ easily makes up for athleticism, if it didn't why would a team like Butler be in the national championship?

Second, how does being able to play basketball correlate to understanding the game? You could probably beat izzo one on one, does that mean you know the game better? No. Also, one on one is not basketball, so a one on one game doesn't indicate who is the better over all basketball player.

IF Butler wins this it will be a HUUUUGE black eye on college basketball. Having a Mid Major win the title would be embarressing. Lets all hope they get embarressed.

Wow where to begin...
MIA? Sorry I wasn't trolling message boards for hours on end hitting refresh over and over, I have a job and a fairly demanding one.
"I claim I'll beat you one on one, on bearcatnews." I'm not sure what this means, are we competing on the message board?
"You talk a big talk, but what makes you the basketball legend?" Umm you can keep your self proclaimed title there buddy and way to follow "talk" with "big talk" you sound like a caveman.
And finally "cerebral" means intellectual.
Take a deep breath, don't try to type a response, and take your frustration out at your local "Y" where I am sure they all call you a legend!

FWIW, I'm the "self-proclaimed" John Holmes of BCT.

This "self-proclaiming" thing seems pretty sweet.

Maybe I'll "self-proclaim" myself the Tiger Woods of BCT tomorrow........

This raises the question: rather be Holmes or Woods?

Nevermind............probably shouldn't go there.............

Great game, anyone who watched that tonight and thinks Duke is the national champ, has to think Butler is a top 5 team. Greatone, I'm talking to you.

These Non Athletes are better then athletes I guess...Duke=Non Athletes. WV=Athletes...Who won, better yet who dominated in every part of the game? The National Champions.

They are Cinderalla. They proved it by their OOC. Won a tuuuuurrible conference. Beat a tired K-state, beat two banged up team in MSU and Syracuse.

Pre-season is lame and there is a reason they dropped out of that when they played some decent teams from decent conferences early on.

They earned it within the system. This is when I think the BCS works.

Pre-Season is lame...yet all of the final four teams were top 11 pre-season. Not a solid arguement bud-seems like pre-season had it about right. After kansas went down it was about 50/50 with syracuse(even with the injury) and Kentucky as the favorite-but after Butler beat Syracuse with defense and coaching it was due to Syracuse injury?Lame.

Also-if everyone returns they will start out a top 5 team next year and have a very good shot at another final four. (I think Gordan Hayward will go pro though--a sure fire top 20 pick in the NBA draft)

If UC had 5 macks and 5 Haywards....

Amazing how good someone can be if they master the fundamentals.

Duke won. That makes 13 NCAA Titles for BCS Conference members in the 13 years the BCS has been in existence. That is 100%.

How does this effect how we think of Mid Majors? I have always considered Memphis, Xavier and Gonzaga as the top mid majors. I assume this now puts Butler ahead of X and the Zags.

I am very interested to see how this effects their recruiting.

I am also very interested in seeing if Butler is able to retain their coach.

It is going to be near impossible to win a national title if you dont recruit the 5 star players. The McDonald AA types.

That is where teams like Butler and Gonzaga have trouble because they don't have the athletes.

Dontmisshim has made valid points to argue Butler being a top 5 team and maybe they are (they arent) but it is obvious they got a easy ride to the finals. I also believe that if Xavier beats K-State we could have been watching them.

Butler had a nice run but they will go back to Mid-major land where they belong. Some might now like that but unless their coach stays they will be a good mid major and nothing more.

This Butler team trailed in the 2nd half of all their tournament games. They were not overly impressive at all. They got a lot of bounces and played good ball.

I think those in Bristol are missing the point of the argument 'Rooting for Duke, or rooting against Duke'.

While I'm in no way a fan of Duke, I didn't watch the game to see them lose. I watched because Butler was one of the most compelling stories in any sport. I was watching to see them win, and the opponent could have been anyone (aside from UC).
ESPN certainly tends to take either a provincial (east coast/big name) or overly broad look at things.

I think this certainly puts them ahead of Xavier, for now at least. They will have to retain their success and do well in the future as well. I'm kind of interested as well with recruiting. After some of these star players like hayword, howard and mack leave, how will they fair?

As far as Their coach staying, I could see both ways. He has a ton of talent coming back, but where else would he go? Oregon maybe, but I don't know if he will want to leave, after all look at what the last coach from Butler did when he left, he is now searching for a job.

Na. Oregon is not in the Big East.

Honestly he should leave. He will never ever get the respect he deserves in that conference. He will not be able to get 5 star talent there. Maybe stay there another year and wait for a better job to open. He is young. He has a chance to be a coaching legend and not just a Butler legend.

Personally I still put X ahead of Butler because I think they are in a much better conference and have had sustained success. We will see how Butler does next year.
