Kobe Bryant is the greatest player to step on the court in the last 10 years.

LL tell me you saw Kobe just take over. That was beyond spectacular. Awesome.

Kobe is simply taking over the playoffs. 11 of 16 games with 30+ and 6 of those 11 with 35+. He is proving to still be the best player in the league..especially when it counts. No doubt about it-Lakers will beat the Celtics and Kobe will have 5 rings.

It's not about how many titles you have. It is about how many titles you have as the best player on your team. Jordan has 6 titles as the best player on his team. Kobe has 1. Shaq was the best player on those teams that won 3 titles. If Kobe wins this year, he would have 2 as the best player on a Championship team. You wouldn't put Robert Horry in the top players of all time just because he has a bunch of titles.

You wouldnt put Kobe in a group with Horry would you?

Your arguements are absurd. EMJ won a ton of titles and he wasn't always the "best" player on the team. I think Kareem commanded a lot of attention.

Look at Kobe and Shaqs stats those years. They both dominated.

Kobe will end up with more then LBJ and MJ combined..... (yes I am going with the assumption LBJ has 0)

It's completely logical. Titles do not equal greatest player ever. If it did Bill Russell would be hands down the best player to ever play the game. He is up there anyway. Your argument about Magic doesn't stand up because no one ever talks about Magic as the best player ever. He is in the discussion for best point guard ever and Kobe will be in the discussion for one of the best SGs ever. He will never surpass MJ though. There is something to be said about winning 6 titles as the best player, being the best player on the team with the most wins ever (72-10) and doing it without a dominant center. Magic had Kareem. Bird had McHale. Kobe had Shaq. Jordan had Carthwright. Kobe is a great player but he is no Michael Jordan, though he tries to be.

He has a lot of time. Problem is that some people will always say that MJ is the best no matter what. Kobe still has time.

MJ did have one of the greatest 50 players of all time.

He did but is he one of the 50 greatest players because of MJ? Shaq is also one of the 50 greatest players.

Kobe doesn't have as much time as you think. He has been in the league 13 years. He has knee issues. He has lost a lot of his explosiveness and is mostly a jump shooter now (no different from Jordan near the end of his career either BTW). I think Kobe may only play another 3 or 4 years and then hang it up. Just enough time to play in the Olympics one more time if he wants.

No he wasn't because of MJ. The year MJ played baseball he was 3rd in MVP voting, won the MVP at the all star game, and his team won 55 games. Jordan had one of the best all around teams around him, to think other wise is crazy. Take MJ off his team and Kobe off his team, I would take MJ's in a heartbeat.

Really? You would take Longley and Wennington over Bynum and Gasol? You would take Kukoc over Odom? You would take Ron Harper over Fisher? The only players that would even be on this year's Lakers team from the 72 win Bulls season are Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, and maybe Kukoc.

Jordan had a better number 2 in Pippen than what Kobe has right now. The Lakers are much better at the 5. They are also better at the 4 offensively. Rodman is a better rebounder than anyone on the Lakers and he was a pretty solid defensive player too. The Lakers are much better at the PG spot with Fisher than the Bulls were with Ron Harper. The Bulls were better at the 3 with Pippen and the 2 with Jordan (sorry Kobe fans, it's true).

Without Jordan- The bulls won 55 games. Lakers won 57 this year...without Kobe do you think they win 55? No. Which means:

A) Jordan had a better team around him.
OR
B) The league wasnt as good as it is now making it easier for a Jordanless Bulls team to win 55.

Either way-It is just helping Kobes case. Regardless- Kobe will get his 5th and has a very realistic shot at 6/7 before its all said and done.

If you go to basketball-reference.com you will find some interesting statistics. One in particular shows the importance of a player to their team winning and it is (creatively) called Win Shares. Michael Jordan is #4 all time and led the NBA for 9 consecutive years. Kobe is #20 and has never finished higher than 4th for a season since 2001. Jordan also is number 1 all time in PER (Player Efficiency Rating) and Bryant is #12. All the numbers point to Jordan including the Lakers' .608 win percentage without Kobe (95 games - and 6 wins to 3 losses this year).

Also, from 1986-87 through 1997-98, the Bulls were 1-6 when Jordan missed a game. This does not count seasons or parts of season he was retired and playing baseball.

These refs need to let these teams play. Ridiculous. Starting with the double techs to start the game.

Not shocked with how this game is going.

LivingLegend--Kobe has had 30+ in 12/17 playoff games this year. 6 of those 17 are 35+. Is he performing to what you expect or is he still overrated? While I think he is at MJ's level-if not higher--at the very least you have to admit he is the closest thing to MJ the league has ever seen.

Nothing like Jordan.

Watching Kobe dunk last night, I felt bad for the guy. He can barely get above the rim. Story of your life im guessing.
