Ballsy call for sure. I live in KC and my friends I was watching it with were pissed for 2 seconds then moved on. After the game they weren't even talking about it. They were too busy being angry with Selden and Ellis and rehashing all the missed wide open shots.

Didn't see what Self said...did he downplay it?

*Also, since they called it a player control foul I think they were basically giving Hart that established spot. Not saying that's better or worse for those who didn't think it was a foul, just FYI.

Self's Comments:“I thought it was a great hustle play,” Self said. “But as upset or sad or mad that you get about certain things, it doesn’t do any good now.

“I mean if we had a next game, you could use that as motivation to prepare the next time. But it’s over. So there’s no reason for us to worry too much about things that we have absolutely zero control over.”

Much respect on how he handled it

The ref actually released a statement as well:“Kansas was in team control of the ball. The ball came loose and Kansas maintained the ball. No. 4 (Graham) undercut No. 3 (Hart). Therefore it was a team-control foul and they were not shooting a one-and-one. They never lost the ball. We (the officials) got together to review the sequences to make us sure.”

Not sure how he can can say Kansas never lost the ball...

Actually I think the debate for the most part centers around the idea of getting to the "next level". That is being an actual contender for top 10 rankings or deep runs in March. Some have argued we have been held back by perceived disadvantages which I believe are affecting the situation very very little.

I'm not arguing whether or not we've had "good seasons". Most of us want a "great" season mixed in every so often. I don't think we have any significant disadvantages holding us back with recruiting other than the current perception of our coach or program being in the elite class. It's up to the coach to get that going and without excuses IMO.
I will never agree with that if it was true it would be a even playing field and it's not. That's why Smart is in Texas and other good coaches move on.will have to agree to disagree. I guess one mans junk is another's treasure.

Maybe I haven't been following closely enough, but I think you're now changing the debate. I'm pretty sure everyone else is saying that conference affiliation has little or nothing to do with basketball success. And this all started with you talking about P5 schools in the S16.
your right your not following closely enough. It's all the same issue. But you know what it's over. Mick's here I'm happy time to move on.

Virginia is the reason why playing slow ball and relying on defense first gets you into trouble - you don't put teams away, and then a 10 seed that happens to be making shots beats you. It's also the reason why Mick's offensive strategy needs to be revamped - no matter how good you are on defense, you need offense to win tournament games.

Agreed. It doesn't hurt when you have a 5-star freshman play like a 5-star player in the second half. Richardson was awesome. They had another freshman Lydon make some huge plays too.

UNC is stupid good when they hit 3's. They're the team to beat now. I'm predicting a UNC vs. Oklahoma Final at this point, but Nova has a shot to edge out OK. I can't see the CUSE beating UNC.

As far as UNC vs. Oklahoma goes, Buddy might the best player on the floor, but I think UNC has the better team and they have too much size and talent all around.

Turns out you can give up 74 points, win the game, and still have played great defense. The name of the game in championship caliber basketball has always been scoring points. I hope Mick was taking notes.

I believe Villanova and UNC were #1 and #2 in offensive efficiency this year.

8. (8) Saint Joseph's 78, (9) Cincinnati 76 (First Round)

Poor Octavius Ellis. There all sorts clichés out there about the razor thin line between success and failure, between victory and defeat, between basically anything good that happens in sports and anything bad that happens in sports. Those clichés don't carry quite as much weight as their visual embodiment, which occurred in the final tenth of a second in this game.

This is also, as you might remember, a Cincinnati team which saw its run in the AAC Tournament end via a quadruple overtime loss to Connecticut in which the Huskies extended the game into a fourth OT with a 70-foot heave.
I suppose there are cases out there that can be argued, but it's hard for me to imagine any team in any sport that has ever ended a season with back-to-back losses that were more excruciating.
