Like 1st round match up. I think we beat Creighton. Then it depends if Duke is knocking down their jumpers. I think we have a punchers chance in round 2.

I don't want to be Negative Nancy, but I don't think we can beat Duke. Their littles and bigs are as good if not better all around.

I'm not sure we will even beat Creighton because of their offensive efficiency (best FG percentage in the nation). I sense a Notre Dame like game where you'd think our defense would overwhelm them but they move the ball and drop three pointers.

That is def something I will be interested in watching.I saw cCreighton's head coach saying they thrive in a fast pace game but they have won some grind it out games. I hope they realize we have mastered a slow grind it out game. As much as I want us to play fast I don't think that's a good idea against this team. But we struggle in slow half court games so it seems like a damned if we do damned if we don't kind of thing.

What are you all's thoughts of what type if game Mick will make this?!

And SK will not guard McDermott. Have you seen Creighton play? He is a low post player for the most part. I'll take Rubles and Jackson working on him.

That's who it's going to have to be because Cheikh will foul out in 5 minutes trying to stop him. I will say, Cheikh has improved his "not fouling as much" considerably of late. If we could duplicate GT's zone against us, it might be a good strategy. A tight pressing defense like we did against Providence might not work against a top tier team - and by top tier, I mean about ND's level. I think Creighton plays a lot like ND. Good passing, good ball handling. They're not ranked 23 for no reason.

This is a tough tough draw for us(Although its the NCAA so any team can say the same)

Creighton has 5 guys who made at least 30 threes this season. 4 of them made over 40%. The other one was 38%.

McDermott: 23.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, shoots 56.1 FG, 49.7 3pt, and 86.0 FT.

Good luck Rubles. He's too much for JJ. Maybe Shaq is quick enough. McDermott is 6'8". Too tall for anyone small to guard.

I think the absolute #1 key to this game is going to be STAYING OUT OF FOUL TROUBLE! 3 reasons for that:

#1 - Creighton is a terrific free-throw shooting team. We cannot put them in the bonus early in either half and expect to match points with them.

#2 - Rubles is the only guy on our team that's going to be able to check McDermott. It is the toughest assignment he will likely ever have, and we need him on the floor locking him down... NOT on the bench with 2 fouls early in the 2nd half.

#3 - With Rubles (or Jackson or whoever) on McDermott, you will not get a lot of help-side defense from the 4. Meaning Mbodj has got to stay out of foul trouble as well. With Mbodj protecting the rim and playing help D in the paint, we have a good chance of winning this game. With anyone else manning the 5, we are in big trouble.

We already know we aren't going to shoot the ball well, so let's just give that dream up right now. The only way we are going to win this game (and the Duke game if we should get that far) is to crash the boards and try to grind out a game in the 50's.

I think of him more as a guy who curls off screens and slashes than a true back to the basket type guy. I definitely wouldn't put Jackson on him. Rubles is primary defender for sure, but when he's out, I'd rather see him shooting contested 15 footers over SK, who's a strong guard, than getting 10 easy points on free throws which is what JJ will give him.

You think so? I know Parker guards a lot of bigger players, but McDermott isn't just a perimeter guy. I think Creighton will go inside early, and that's a lot to ask a 6'3" guy to guard someone 6'8" with the skill set of McDermott.

It won't be Parker although he'd give 110% and gladly accept the challenge. The guy is big (225lbs) besides way too tall and talented to give up 5". Besides they have guards that will need to be hounded. Creighton is not a one-man show. It will be Rubles until he gets in foul trouble, then my guess is Shaq or JJ. At least Shaq gives us an offensive option besides his defensive quickness.

Creighton's whole team seems like they shoot 3's. If we guard the perimeter and keep everyone else is check knowing that McDermott will get his points, we'll have a shot. The Cats aren't going to change overnight, so tight D, offensive rebounding, deflections & steals are going to have to carry the day for us.

If I'm Mick, I play the disrespect card with my players and tell them nobody is expecting us to do much, so we have nothing to lose. Let's go out and play loose and give it all we got, attack the basket, and wear them down.

We are still going to have scoring droughts and our offense will still resemble that of the NBA minus the talent but Mbodj has turned the corner. He will play big!!

I would 2, but most of the ESPN guys picked us. Last year, nobody picks us, this year, people pick us to win. Creighton is very good, but I would agree, I like our chances, they haven't faced nearly the competition we have. It is definitely a very interesting match up. Duke is scary, but if everything went right, it could be close. Welp, at least we watched the NCAA selection show, eggs is probably on the edge of their collective seats seeing what their NIT draw is.

mcdermitt posts up a lot, he is a complete player, the only thing is, is that rubles is faster than he is, just not as much as you would think he is, he is not slow by any means.

I like us to only play 9 players: jackson, thomas, and guyn and sanders with minimum minutes.

So what style of game do you think the Cats will play?trap and press them? I don't know much about Creighton's defense but it can't be that great compared to what we have faced, right?! I would like to think we could get to the 60's against them.

For once, if Mick says we must focus on defense, I will actually agree with him, considering this match-up. I say grind it out and slow them down, it is actually better because they are a high scoring team who doesn't play great d.

Versus Creighton, if we get up in their grill in tight extended man that covers the 3-point line, and box out. I like the chances. If I'm Mick, I start with Rubles on DMcD...tell him that is his main job. I spell him with Jackson/Thomas. The important thing is that is the players main focus and they are all up in his business.

I really hope Mick doesn't mess around with the zone. Even if extended, Creighton seemsto me that they'll pass quickly, reverse the ball and getopen 3's.

If we play Duke, unfortuanately unless we are on freaking fire, they beat us handily. They have 1 loss with Kelly. Their offense is incredibly efficient (they can teach us the proper way to run what we attempt to). And Kelly/Plumlee is a nightmare matchup. Bad draw but when you finish the season like we do...tough to complain.

And on offense, the answer should be attack attack attack. They don't play D very well, we have speed on them. Cash, Park and SK should be trying to go to the hole and beating them to the hoop. Push it...get in the lane...kick out sometimes to SK, JP and Cash for 3s.
