Help Support BearcatTalk:

And on offense, the answer should be attack attack attack. They don't play D very well, we have speed on them. Cash, Park and SK should be trying to go to the hole and beating them to the hoop. Push it...get in the lane...kick out sometimes to SK, JP and Cash for 3s.

Yup, good d and even decent offense can win this game for us.

Anybody notice the 16 seed in the Midwest? NC A&T.
We beat them in November 93-39.
Maybe Creighton would like to swap with them for our opening game :D

Brennan from ESPN had this to say about us.....

60. Cincinnati: We saw the Bearcats a lot this season, and it was clear from the start that Mick Cronin's was a team that was about as much fun to play as it was to watch, which is to say: not. When you're slow-paced and combine genuinely great defense and genuinely awful shooting (31.7 percent from 3, 45.3 percent from 2, 64.9 percent from the free throw line), you tend to get glazed eyeballs, ours included. The only thing Cincinnati does well on offense is rebound its misses. They had lots of practice.

keep in mind the ranking is based on "watchability" or which teams play with style or are fun to watch. I'm sure he's working on follow up story which ranks teams by uniforms.

We would be towards the top of most likely to throw TV out the window while watching rankings.....

a couple of friends write up about the game.

seems to think it has a chance to be a classic.

This should be a very competitive game, although many Creighton fans think they are getting a bye because we aren't as good as the great Wichita State Shockers, who they beat twice. We don't even have one meaningful win according to their board. Yet, next year they'll refer to them as "great" wins in the watered down conference formally known as the Big East.

McDermott is a GREAT player though! Love watching him play. He's going to be a handful.

I like the match ups in both rounds. UC will have trouble with teams that grind it and Creighton likes to get up and down the court. UC's offense is much better in that setting. I don't think UC beats Duke but I do believe they can hurt them on the offensive boards and believe that will give them a chance. The fact is this team if shooting well can beat anybody or it can lose in it's first game. I think they win one and go home, but would not be entirely shocked if they upset Duke and made a second sweet 16 trip either. It all depends of their shooting on a given day and if they can do what hasn't happened since December and have 3 guys shooting well in the same game.

agree jeff

and if they can do what hasn't happened since December

There's the rub. It's possible but it is the exception to the rule.

1st game will be tough. I'm going to pick the 'Cats though and go on faith.

2nd game (assuming Duke wins their first game) I think the Bearcats lose by double digits...around 15-20. I hate to say it because I would love to win that game, but not this year....unless we get lucky, which can happen in the tournament.

Uc beats creighton by 15. Contain McDermott and they have no one capable of doing anyhing

Uc beats duke by 7

We are sweet 16 bound.

Count on it

Posted this on another thread but thought I'd put it here as well:

I posted about the inflated view of the 90's recently and posted results with it. What people hold onto is the first two seasons with the Final Four and Elite 8 runs. After that there was 1 Elite 8 appearance and a Sweet 16. Twice UC was eliminated in the first round and the rest were 2nd round flame outs.

I think you could say from the '91-'92 season thru '95-'96 UC was an elite team. Two Elite 8's and a Final Four in 5 seasons is pretty strong.

1992 - 4 seed final four
1993 - 2 seed elite 8
1994 - 8 seed lost in 1st round
1995 - 7 seed lost in 2nd round
1996 - 2 seed elite 8

After 1996 the program began to slide and at best became a good team who underachieved terribly by seeding standards:

1997 - 3 seed lost in 2nd round
1998 - 2 seed lost in 2nd round
1999 - 3 seed lost in 2nd round
2000 - 2 seed lost in 2nd round
2001 - 5 seed sweet 16
2002 - 1 seed lost in 2nd round
2003 - 8 seed lost in 1st round
2004 - 4 seed lost in 2nd round
2005 - 7 seed lost in 2nd round

Six times from 1997-2005 UC was a 4 seed or higher and they never made the sweet 16. After 1997 UC was a good program loved locally, not much respected nationally. Give them props for making the tournament but don't say people today are settling for mediocrity when they are meeting the same standard set since 1997. I have said repeatedly Mick has brought the program back to where it was on the court when Huggs vs. Z happened and I am correct. Results don't lie. However, that doesn't mean we can't want more.

I like our chances if we can lock down the perimeter and stay composed. McDermott will find a way to score we just need to prevent someone else from having a career game against us. Parker and Shaq could create a potential matchup problem for the Jays that could be exploited.

I think Titus Rubles getting outside of the BE will allow him to return to his pre conference form, remember how clutch he was in Vegas?
