The thing about this loss that really stings for me, is that all year I knew we were good, but I always had my doubts about making a run in the tourney. This team had games where they looked great on defense, but meh on offense and vice versa. I was waiting for a game where they put it all together, and we got that in the first 30 mins of this game. In the first 30 mins of this game, they looked better than they have all year. They looked like a team that I thought could win the title. And that’s what stings for me, we all finally got the game we wanted from them, but the it fell apart in the final 10 mins.

I'm with you. Nevada was on something like a 15-2 run, and people want mick to bench the only player that has been able to create the last couple games? You have to trust your players in that situation. Looking back, of course it looks like the wrong move, but in the moment, I think he had to keep him in. It was the only chance we had. They had guys in foul trouble too that played the whole game.

We were up 7 points. I could understand being down 7 and leaving him in...not up 7. It speaks to the desperation Cronin was in at the time. We were ****ing up 7 points!!! He got nervous and choked rather than calming down and being rational with a lead.

Went from 22 to 7 in about 3 minutes. It was going the wrong direction fast. we needed a basket and they were basically playing a zone. they were putting 2-3 on the post players so we needed a play maker. Jacob was terrible the 2nd half. when cane played he wasn't much better. who else was going to make a play? trevor? keith? I see your point but I understand the desperation.

This is weird, stupid, and lazy. If you want to criticize him, make it about the job he's doing.

Wittle Mick being a sawed off little pansy turd who makes up for it with bluster isnt a HUGE part of the problem? Not rational.

Another thing that sucks, is I think that team was about 1 shot away from qiving up. we couldn't finish

Can we ban him now? No need for this garbage. I have been very critical of micks coaching in this game but it's indicative of this persons IQ to attack him this way.

I hope this is a legit crossroads for mick where he decides to grow from this and focus on improving his coaching. This loss has to be different from other losses. He has to reflect and correct.

Yeah I really feel for them too.
I feel nothing for the coaching staff. Do you know what they get paid for the privilege to coach these freakish athletes? Plenty. Their checks are still coming unfortunately. If your going to hurt hurt for the kids. They have 4 years to live their dreams and can never get those back. Overall though the memories of Gary and Kyle are very sweet. Kyle already said he could not be more happy with his days in Cincinnati.

We have to own up to the fact that we beat NOBODY this year. Witchitah State you say where are the now? Houston - same deal. Florida crushes us and is out. Same with Xavier. We are all sad because we drank the coolaide of overrated rankings. Let’s face it we belong where we ended. Maybe a top 20 team, not much better.

Apparently folks on Bearcattalk know more than just about every analyst in the country. If you wanna down play beating Wichita @ home, on senior day, during the first ever CBS broadcast at their arena then do you. Diminish Houston for losing on a buzzer beater to the most picked team (and probably hottest team in the country) to come out of that bracket? That works too i guess. It was a historic collapse, yes, but that team showed how good they are. I want tournament success as bad as anyone, but looking back and shitting on the season of UC and many other teams based on the performance of a single elimination tournament is beyond absurd to me.

Let's face it. Both Wichita and Houston had a chance to beat us in the last seconds and they both blew it. UC was damn lucky to win those games.

That's so ignorant. Any course of a season a team with big wins could have lost them as well. The ball has bounced the wrong way for us plenty more times. Don't try to down play our good wins.

Go look at the glass half empty and be miserable somewhere else.

If that's the case, we blew it against Nevada and would have beat them in OT. I guess we will count it as a win and a sweet 16 appearance.

Were you in the restroom when they passed out the logic gene?

i mean we lost in the most predictable way. we lost it doing the things the fans had feared all season.

we had hoped the entire time mick would learn from the mistakes. he did not. and it sent us home. jake being the PG in iso plays was always going to get us. you just never dreamed it would cost us a 22 point lead.
I will say- you did mention this about JE many times. You were correct. I think it's fine to get the ball in his hands a little bit more, and change things up so the defense has to adjust. You can't run the same thing all game. And just like letting Cumberland up top for part of the game. But you can't exclusively go to it.

Also, if Cane would have been allowed to grow in the regular season (you were correct again) he would have learned to not penetrate too far. I think he can get all the way to the hole off a rebound or steal, but but inbounds play.

Defense first or dbeion also mentioned a very good point- against the crappy teams, instead of shooting threes, we should have been using those games to refine our offense. Very very valid point.

Our style is not conducive to NCAA tournament success, so I hope there are coaching adjustments.

our guys were tight as hell.

i dont know if any of you guys have played for a guy like that, but it lets doubt creep into your mind as a player. if you play with a fear of upsetting him, you aren't playing your best.
Agree that he makes them TIGHT!!!!!

Lots of comments that he was a lunatic on the sideline, which leads to lack of calmness in the players. To be fair:
I haven't listened to any post game yet, but the little bit of coaches show I caught he said he (calmly?) told the team not to worry, they were going to win the game.

Our style was conducive to forging a 22 point lead with 11 minutes to play.

He does cause them to play super tight. In fairness, I heard he calmly told them they were going to win the game. Not sure if that was before the last play or what.

I might be more pissed about this game now than on Sunday.

Our path couldn't have been easier. A 15 seed, a 22 point lead vs a MW 7 seed, and an 11 seed MVC team to play for the Final 4. So embarrassing.

Jake I couldn't stay in the house after the game I had to go for a walk. I was planning my trip to Atlanta. Watch the Cats and spend the weekend with my 5 month old granddaughter. Even with that I am so disappointed for the team and coaching staff. It was obvious how hard they played from the first game until the last that they were on a mission. You don't guard like they did without being bought in as a group. Everything was lined up. if you don't think each person on that team and coaching staff knew that your fooling yourself. All their effort and dreams went down the toilet in 11 minutes. It hurt me but my pain is nothing like what they must have felt.

Waite, the players and coaches have had this feeling for 7 of the last 8 years. Everyone said well, it shouldnt have ended this way. Well from watching the past 8 years and only deviated once, yes it was supposed to end this way. Same coaches, different players, same result. If you are making a cake with the same ingredients every year, you are going to make the same exact cake. It is the same with the bengals, same personnel and coaching, same result, different players.
