Newest Conference Realignment Thread

I think the bottom of that league will be better than the bottom of our league. The top could be pretty even. Will be curious to see if Notre Dame joins into that conference as well. I'm guessing no if the money for the ACC would be more, which it most assuredly would be. I hate to say it because it screws UC, but this conference makes so much sense. It's somewhat refreshing to see some common sense being used in all this conference realignment.

Well said. The new BE does make perfect sense. I agree that they won't be stronger at the top, but overall it'll be slightly better. The good thing for us, maybe not tomorrow though, is that Kevin Ollie looks like he can keep UConn rolling. Even Calhoun had a few teams recently that didn't play this hard and these kids aren't playing for anything.

nope. and mike decourcy is crazy for even writing that story.

Yep. 4 of the C7 have been bottom feeders for years, DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's. XU's glory days are gone, they will never again be much better than this years 16-11. Butler had 2 years in the sun, they will not be much heard from again.

I'd take them over SMU, South Florida, Tulane and whoever else we'll have in the league. Big East bottom feeders are better than mid-major bottom feeders.

Didn't 2 of those 4 beat us this year?

According to Baldscaum (Jersey Guy), UC, USF, and UConn will be splitting about $66 million when all is finally negotiated. The major cost is giving up the Big East name and Madison Square Garden.

The $22 million makes for a nice downpayment on the Nippert expansion and the loss of TV revenue. Having to start over from scratch with a new conference name and the conference basketball tournament in Memphis is not so good. Big loss in identity.

The new TV contract with ESPN apparantly requires ESPN to spend $2,000,000 marketing the new conference name.

And when UC leaves to go to the ACC/Big 12, we'll have to give up a lot of money as well right?

Take Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, UCONN and Cincinnati out of the Big East and the conference will be nothing like it used to be. Adding Butler and X does not make up for the losses. Keep the faith !!

Out of morbid curiousity, how is VCU getting left out of the new big east? It seems like they are getting the same treatment that UC and UCONN are getting.

I'll take the leftovers of the BEast and include VCU, Temple, and Memphis and go from there if we don't get in a league and need to form one. Even if it means playing in different leagues in fb and bb for a season or two. UC, UConn, USF, VCU, Temple, Memphis is not a bad core for a BB league under the circumstances anyway.

The (insert name) Conference will be UC, UConn, Memphis, Temple, USF, UCF, SMU, Houston, Tulane, East Carolina, Tulsa, and Navy (football only).

I would say no as the $22 million is for the damage done by the schools leaving the Big East. Anyway, UC is not going to be joing to the ACC/Big 12 anytome soon.

"If" UC is out in the cold and they have to put a league together this will change Ralph. A new league means a new commissioner and new invites. Things will not stand pat. Some schools will look elsewhere and new schools will be invited.

You should have Whit Babcock and Mick Cronin take your course on conference realignment. They both seem to think that realignment is not over, although they can't say when it will happen next. You need to tell them that 2025 is the earliest, and until then they need to shut their pieholes. Your connections are much better than theirs, so they should consult with you before talking to the press. LOL.

MAybe they should just have conferences for college basketball like they do with college Hockey.... It has absolutely nothing to do with any other sport. It would probably make it easier to just have different conferences with every sport, why should our basketball program have to suffer because our football program isn't good enough to play in a power conference?

Seems to be the sentiment of the Catholic 7. Oh you guys are going to greedily ruin our sport? Then we're just going to create our own conference of schools in the same situation. I have to respect that.

There is still an outside chance, down the road, that the 4 or 5 "power conferences" could break away from the NCAA. If that happens, I wonder what happens to the C7? I bet they get completely left out in the cold and will be playing in their own NCAA tourney against the rest of the mid majors. I wouldn't classify it as likely but it could get very interesting down the road.

Whit and Mick know, but they are not going to say it publicly. UC to the ACC rumors are based on schools leaving the ACC. The ACC is solid, schools will not be leaving, therefore, there are no openings.

It does not matter if the ACC is "solid". Fox is driving all this now.

Fox encouraged the b1g to expand....they did

Fox encouraged the C7 to leave, they did

Fox now wants the B1G to expand more into the south with the ACC. They will

Fox now wants the B12 to expand as evidenced by the ny post article today...they will

Playoffs are coming. The acc, new conference were in, and the rest will have ONE slot between them for a bcs game come 2014. The ACC schools know this and that's why they have contacted the SEC, B1G and B12

Once Maryland gets out paying close to 20 mil, the floodgates open

Then I will not forget one moment to remind Ralph he was wrong like the C7 and all the rest

Do you have a link to the NY Post article? I couldn't find it on the website.
