I agree he probably is not going to be a 4 (Darnell wilks) between him and Shaq wow what possible potential. I cant believe really only ms. st and utep were recruiting him. He looks to be a diamond in the rough type player. Imagine having him at the 3, what a size advantage. Im seeing a Armein Kirkland type player coming in. whether he plays the 3 or 4 he has the potential to be a nightmare mismatch. I see his rankings skyrocketing come here soon. good get MICK!!

out of all the players we are bringing next year i really cant wait to see what this kid brings to the table. great size and it looks like average handles. i will take that combination anyday. him and shaq at the 2 and 3 wow 6-7 and 6-9

Shaq is a SF all the way and Ellis is a PF (more of a face up).

Ellis will be a 4 as Chad has confirmed. He may be skinny now, but with the weight program at UC, he will bulk up. Between Guyn, Sanders, Shaq, Jeremiah Davis, SK, Dixon, Cash and Parker, the PG, SG and SF spots are pretty much solidified for the next few years. Ellis will play at the 4. Jackson will play at the 4. Gaines will play at the 5 and Gates will play between the 4 and 5 depending on the line up.

I don't expect much from Ellis his first year or two at UC if he is a true 4, at least not in Big East play. His handle will have to be very, very good for him to contribute in the Big East with the body he has.

Sometimes these kids frames will not allow them to hold the weight. Dont you think that Darnell has had the same training with no results... If hes a four then fine but i think if he has any shot at all he might be better suited for the SF position..

I agree with your point about some kids having difficulty putting on weight, though I do agree with others that Wilks simply doesn't have the lateral quickness, foot speed, etc to play the 3... I'm confident in the end that the coaching staff will find the right fit for Octavious. Hell, Mick came out this year and said he made a mistake with Darnell and he wishes he would have redshirted him... maybe that happens with Ellis next season.

Mick made the right choice. If you would have redshirted Wilks you'd have him for another year. Personally I'd rather have the scholly and use it on the current 2011 class. This is his fourth year in the system and he is still bad, but for some reason having him sit out completely his first year would have made him that much better???

agree- as with the senior class in general that has been here 4 years, there has been very little noticeable improvement in their games, and none of them have ever taken "the next step." i'd rather be done with them all asap and move forward with the program.

Hindsight is 20/20. You can't sit here and tell me for sure if he did redshirt his freshmen year he wouldn't have developed differently. Confidence is a very important thing for a player as well, who's to say Wilks being given a year to practice with the team and get stronger wouldn't have helped him develop at a better rate. Neither of us can say either way. It was a decision that was made and while I completely understand your point of wanting to be rid of the 2007 class we'll never really know what might have happened if he did it differently.

You could say that about every single player that has every played. What tells me he wouldn't have significantly improved? I watch his play closely. I can see his feet are too slow and he has no natural feel for the game. There is more that I've already stated so I won't go into it. Would he improve slightly? Probably. But to say that after 3 years of playing and he still hasn't improved much that somehow sitting out a year was going to make a significant difference is way off IMO. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 and it's a tough call at that time, but I'm saying after seeing him for 3 years I don't think it would have helped. I probably would have said a RS year would have helped him if you would have asked me 3 years ago.

agree 100%. even if he had another year, if the light doesn't go on after 3 years, it never is going to. wilks can just really high and can spot shoot, but thats about it.

Some players have ceilings lower/higher than others.

It's unfortunate that the current senior class entered UC at a time when there was not a winning atmosphere, high-major recruits as upperclassmen, etc. I think some of their careers would have been different.

Personal work ethic is the biggest contributor to improvement. It's undisputable. Listen to the remarks being made by the staff about this years recruits. You hear phrases like self starter and self motivated to improve their game. Their is a total remodeling of this program taking place. Especially in terms of attitude and work ethic.

since when are players stuck to one position? just cuz shaq is a sf doesn't mean he cant play on the floor with a 3. just like you can play two pg's you can play two sf's

I never said Shaq couldn't play with another wing. I said Shaq is a SF in every sense of the word. Also, Ellis is a PF and was recruited as a PF.
