Octavius Ellis

I think he can be one of the best centers in the country if he can gain 10-15 lbs he's got great touch for a big man and he's a great ft shooter

He has terrible foot work though, doesn't seem to have a great grasp on the whole pivot foot thing. Has a hard time keeping shot blockers at bay using his body, unlike clark and deberry who excelled at it.

I'm always thought Ashley was a good actress, & a courageous woman with personal stories she has revealed in order to stand up for others. Her apology on behalf of the KY fans( who are decent folks in spite of the small percentage of racist goons attacking Octavius & his family), was equally brave and principled. She has a warm place in this UC fan's heart forever.

I'd be shocked if Ellis doesn't have a great season next year. And, it wouldn't shock me to see DeBerry have a great season as well. I think the ceiling is high for both guys. Throw in the higher expectations from Shaq and Clark and this could be a monster front line next season. If we get better outside production from the guards, which I expect we will, this could really come together for a very special season. There are a lot of ifs, but I think the stars are coming into alignment for this program finally.

Can jenifer transform Ellis like satterfield did for martin?

Ummm... I think Kenyon Martin personally had a lot to do with his transformation. Not saying Sat didn't help. Just saying that Kenyon put the work in. There were times he carried us on his back, Sat or no Sat.

No doubt kenyon put in work. He played for goodwill team I believe jr
year. satterfield just maDE it so easy for everybody on team.

Can we get 13 and 9 from him next year?

If he posts that line next year, he'll be in the Association. No doubt in my mind. A 6'11" shot-blocker that can run the floor, step out and hit an occasional 10 footer, defend multiple positions and mix it up inside is a valuable commodity. He has more work to do but I believe he's on his way.

I heard the strength coach say octavius is now up 15 pounds of muscle already. With summer just starting its possible he could put another 10-15 on by season....now i know it will be harder to add more, but we are going to see at least a 20 pound heavier ellis

Anyone want to make a prediction on Octavius's stat line next year?

If you take out the two games toward the end of last year where he got tossed, he was playing great basketball. If he comes in at 6-10, 245lbs and can average 16 and 10, maybe he gets a look from the NBA, especially with his face-up & mid-range game. Getting a couple more guys in the NBA, even sparingly, would be a huge plus for recruiting.

I'll say 13 and 9 next year. I hope he doesn't have to play a ton of minutes earlier in the year (aka we are beating teams easily). I think he'll go undrafted but play D-League, with a real shot to catch on with someone.

12 and 8.5 seems safe. I'd call that around his minimum. 16 and 10 would be if he took a Justin Jackson-esque jump, and those are rare.

I would like to see Ellis add 5 lbs. of muscle, cut his travelling violations in half, add a new post move, and do a better job of keeping his emotions in check. These things would only lend to a modest improvement in the box score, but would make a huge difference for our team. Obviously a Justin Jackson senior year leap would be amazing, but as it has already been said, that is rare. If he works on the little things, I will be very pleased even if he doesn't become a 15/10 kind of guy.

Octavius Prime!!

If he can keep his emotions in check I think he can get to 13 and 8.5 (or better) based on the idea he is adding muscle and seems motivated. I think it is clear to him that he needs to work hard to make it to the NBA. He has to keep his mental game sharp and focused so he doesn't let old habbits creep in to get in the way of his dream.
