FWIW, IMO:

I hate the attention that crap like this gets from the media and all outlets. I fully realize that this is regarding UC's most bitter rival in basketball- or any sport for that matter. However, it is slightly disturbing to me that I post relevant, constructive and informative posts in multiple threads this morning about the upcoming UC football season and those continue to sit, barely touched while this thread balloons in size. I'm not sure if it's simply the Xavier thing- or a basketball thing... or maybe a microcosm of society and why we see mostly negative, disturbing stories on the six O' Clock news; Because people like to watch train wrecks. It's frustrating that a forum with this tight knit a community of members it appears would rather sit around and banter about how corrupt/ethically challenged another school's athletic program has become rather than discuss aspects of it's own program's upcoming season. I understand message boards are meant for speculation, but I don't understand how news like this is worthy of 5 pages in two days while half a dozen threads about the upcoming football season have equated to less than that combined. I apologize if this offends anyone, but frankly I'd come to expect better substance from this site in the past.

Think I agree.

I agree as well.

I guess I'll add my two cents in on this. I won't lie and say a part of me isn't tickled that it's Xavier that's getting into trouble now and not UC. But at the end of the day there are more important things in life than having a good basketball team and there are victims in cases like these, not just simple recruiting violations. I assume the NCAA will be the next one knocking on X's door after the FBI is done, assuming a player or sports program is involved. And X not being an almighty money maker might be trouble for them. My guess is nothing serious as far as an institution commiting a serious cover-up comes to light out of this. Just a gut feeling. Getting rid of Wells for this reason will look "good" in the eyes of the NCAA. Accusing someone of covering something up and proving it are two different things. There has to be a paper trail. There has to be sworn testimony to someone confessing to doing it (which is highly unlikely) or there has to be actual evidence (most likely saved emails conspiring to protect a player). I doubt those exists. The first question that comes to mind is why did these victims not go to the real police when and if the campus police didn't do anything about it?

Have you been living in a cave TLL? Football is close to all that matters, basketball has become a poor step child to football. It is that way nationwide and at UC.

Apparently you missed all the conference switching by schools, 100% about football and cash from TV contracts, basketball given zilch consideration. None of the teams added to the Big East were added for their basketball programs.

College football is the number 2 watched sport behind the NFL, (granted a distant second as nothing can match the NFL's numbers). College basketball is a far distant 6th.

It is a new world TLL, football is king, sorry that you slept through the change.

Ralphy Ralphy Ralphy, what little do you kno.... Frankly I could care less about the money aspect.

UC has always been a basketball school and it remains that way. You are not a football school playing in the Big East. If UC plays in a big time conference, football wise, then you would have a arguable point.

Huh? Orange Bowl 2009, Sugar Bowl 2010, Big East has guaranteed spot in BCS game next 2 years. Does not get any bigger than that.

This is where you are wrong. The BE and ACC are becoming obsolete in football. More conference realignment is on its way soon.

You cannot make this statement until after the Big East's new TV deal. At that time we will know how viable the conference is. It is, after all, all about money.

The BE and ACC will not make B1G, SEC, Big12, or PAC 12 money...We've talked about this ad nauseum. The BE is the 5th best football conference in America and has been pretty much left out of the 2015 playoff scenario.

The sec wants to go to 16, the Big12 wants to go to at least 12, the B1G won't sit idly by, and ND is talking with everyone. These conferences are going to raid the best ACC and Big East teams in the most profitable markets.

The Big East is very much part of the 2015 playoff scenario. A 12-0 or 13-0 Big East team will be in the 4 team playoff.

The big east deal will likely be better than the ACC but it's not going to be better than the SEC, B1G, Big12, and PAC12

I am in no way defending the actions of Dez Wells, but didn't Miami have a similar issue a couple years ago. Are you saying Miami should be kicked out of the ncaa?

Just like I don't think the actions of Octavius Ellis are indicative of UC basketball, I don't think this is an indictment of Xavier basketball. For those bringing up the coaches moving on, Richardson is moving to Louisville, Davis moved closer to home. If you are thinking about Kelsey, the guy is still a huge X fan. Take a look at this article. Might make you understand why he took some time off.

Neither school is perfect and if you think it is better for UC if X is terrible, you are sorely mistaken. As a fan of both, I think Cincinnati should be seen as one of the top cities for college basketball in the country.

Kelsey left because he wasn't happy with players being forced out, most specifically Canty, who he recruited. Obviously he didn't say that publicly, but that is the true reason. The other stuff was BS that made for a nice article. Which is why he is back coaching as a head coach now. But he is in charge and doesn't have to run players off if he doesn't want to like Mack chooses to do pretty regularly so far.

Xavier transfer Dez Wells will likely land at Louisville, Memphis, or Texas, per sources. Could decide as early as this week.
