Calipari isn't as wanted by NBA teams as people think. The new wave of NBA coaches like Kidd in Brookyln, Hornacek in Phoenix, Vaughn in Orlando, Shaw in Denver and Jackson in Golden State are all former players.

NBA teams are targeting guys like Hoiberg at Iowa State or Kevin Ollie at UConn before someone like Calipari. I would even imagine someone like Bill Self or Tom Izzo being considered ahead of Calipari.

I agree that if I were a GM, I would look at Hoiberg and Ollie before Calipari. Hell, I would hire Pitino before Calipari -- better in-game coach.

It seems that the NBA is more about players, if Calipari can attract Lebron or top free agents like Kevin Love to a team, that would make him look a lot more favorable. Phil Jackson was hired for the same reason, to keep Carmelo and attract top FA's.

I don't think that Bill Self or Izzo are being considered above Cal and other coaches. If that was the Case, they would have been looked at before one of the best jobs (Boston) offered and Stevens always was their first choice.

Maybe now that one of the top young coaches NBA teams will look at whales like Izzo or Self.

Izzo had an offer from the Cavs before the Lebron decision. He almost took it and decided against it ultimately.

Could be getting serious...

SOURCE: #Cal has offered the #CalBasketball coaching gig to Xavier's Chris Mack

CBS posted an article that he has officially been offered the job and there is serious mutual interest.

This would be HYSTERICAL. How is that a better gig than Wake?

Now there is some backtracking...

Source tells me Cal has not made an offer to Xavier's Chris Mack.

Indiana seems like a good fit for Martin. Seems like Xavier fans gave him a lot of grief but he was a productive player especially last year.

Ouch. They are going to be hurting next year without Christon and Martin. They have a good class coming in, but they don't seem like the immediate impact type freshmen that get handed starters minutes.

Roster stability under Mack has been nonexistent. It's a revolving door over there.

Mack's first class featured Martin, Canty, Latham, and McKenzie. Canty and Latham lasted one year, McKenzie two years, and now Martin is leaving early.

The funny thing is a lot of Xavier's fans on their board don't really think it's a big deal. And a couple people still think they will lose another player or two.

If you don't contribute in your first year, it seems you are pushed out the door.

OR is he leaving because Mack is leaving? Maybe this Cal thing is happening and we just haven't heard the confirmation yet.

That's possible, but I thought he and Mack didn't always get along, it's kind of wired that a senior who started as a junior and would be the best scorer this year would transfer, I don't think he liked Mack much. But xavier will be horrible again next year. Honestly Mack is horrible now that he's coaching his own players, I do not think he is a good coach at all

If Mack leaves Xavier, I honestly think they will be better off. I'm sure there are some promising young mid-major coaches out there who could do well at Xavier.
