Illinois State was not a powerhouse by any means, but they did come into today doing some things pretty well. They were shooting from three much better and defending the three nearly as well as UC. But their overall adjusted offense and defense is much worse than UC thus far.

This game should have never been this much of a struggle. I always wonder if these trips are too much of a distraction to focus on the game with the right mindset.

And since the TV situation for this tournament is so stupid, I really don't know why we even scheduled it.

Didn't watch the game but one thing I did learn is Justin is an embarrassment to UC. You literally make me embarrassed to be a fan of UC.

It’s clear Cronin did not want to challenge his teams in the non conference. I think he’s strategy was to get as many wins as possible. Not saying that is good or bad but it is hard to argue. There is really no other reason why he continued to get in these tournaments. The preseason tournaments used to be one of my favorite times to watch the Bearcats. So many good memories. These tournaments ruined that. They are terrible. No buzz. No publicity. No tv coverage. No recruits watching. They are truly pointless.

I’m sorry I embarrass you. I’m embarrassed that you call your self a fan and you didn’t even wanna throw down 30 bucks to enjoy the miserable flo hoops experience. Real fans pay for flo hoops

All of our differences and arguments aside about Cronin and Brannen, we can all rejoice together that flohoops straight up robbed us all.

Brannens system is predicated on being able to shoot (and make) threes. It’s not the only thing but it is essential. Without Jaevin this year we are shooting 22.5%.

This team won’t be good without Jaevin if we run CJBs system. The good news is we can’t shoot any worse...the bad news is we can shoot equally bad with Jaevin out and Jarron off his game on any given night.

Will Brannen be forced by injury to temporarily change his game plan to ISO Jarron?

I know Vogt has surprised many... myself included. He has looked solid as of now... that could change against better competition but good god could you imagine if he didn’t get a waiver to play this year?

Yea I’lll be asking for a refund on Monday and if I don’t get it, my credit card company will remove it.

I thought the replay would be cleaner. Nope. It’s trash as well

Lol

And bowling green beat western Kentucky

My god. This tourney is trash. Playing top 100 bowling green would have redeemed it a bit

I think Jarron has matured and will be a force to be reckoned with in D I this year. Barring some injuries to him or the core around him I don’t see teams stopping us from getting to the sweet 16. I think he will get better as the season preogreses and perform in ways neither us nor anyone has expected. In other words he will exceed expectations and launch into an impressive NBA career. I am excited and I think Brannen gets it too.

Can’t blame this one on Brannen. This was all about Cronin and his entourage ( most polite word I can find) getting a vacation. Still, that was a good game today and we had a very nice contingent. I think the players are enjoying it.

That game dropped us 10 spots in kenpom.

Bowling green will test us, they are shooting 41% from 3 on the year which is 27th in the country.

Gonna be tough being with out 2 guys

I like many was unable to really watch the game. Listened to it on the radio and caught pieces of it on stream.

Awesome to pull out the win at the end and have players step up. But there were some scary stats for them game.

We had 4 points from players not named Williams, Scott, Vogt or Jarron. Four. Those 4 points came from McNeal and Jaevin, we had 0 point from the rest of the team.

McNeal is not a threat offensively and not a 3 point shooter. Until Jaevin returns (hopefully quickly) we have only one three point shooting threat on the team (Jarron).

The scary thing is besides Jaevin, it's hard to see anyone on the bench develop into a scoring threat any time soon. Davenport plays hard and is my favorite, but isn't much of a scorer. MAW is out of position playing PG and shouldn't be handling the ball (he might do well as an off ball shooter). Sorolla I still don't like - I think we are better off in the long run with Diarra getting the minutes. Harvey hasn't impressed. Diarra has the athleticism, but lacks the experience and confidence. Moore is tough and good on D, but still can't hit a three outside of practice.

We had 4 guys go over 30 minutes of playing time, against a 200 kenpom team in order to squeak out a win. The depth needs to improve rapidly or we are in major trouble as the season goes on.

Didn't think I'd ever say this, but we gotta get Vogt the ball more. 4-4 for 13 points with 13 boards, 0 fouls.

He's shooting 73.1% from the floor so far and somehow 64% from the line.

On a team where its becoming increasingly apparent if your last name isn't Cumberland you just can't shoot, we probably need to pound the ball more inside.
