BGSU may be Vogt's biggest challenge on the interior since OSU. Their starting? center Mattos doesn't score much, but is has averaged an extremely high 20.5 rebounds/40 minutes. At 6'11", 240 lbs he has good size as well, his 13.2% ORB and 36.4% DRB percentages will probably come down as the season progresses, but they are extremely good rebounding numbers. Their freshman backup center Swingle is fat at 6'11" 300lbs (USF used to have a guy like him), but should be able to hold his ground.

Besides Mattos, they seem to have a rebound by committee approach. They seem to do pretty well, with all but one regular player over 5.0 rebounds per 40 minutes and 7 guys (counting Mattos) over 7.5 rebounds per 40. Scott should have a good chance to dominate his smaller man on the boards though. Our guards are going to have to box out.

Not sure if Mattos starts actually. Based on minutes it looks like the go small a lot. They don't have anyone over 6'7" who averages over 16 minutes per game.

I’m sure you could pick some games where brooks had similar. My point was it’s not that big a drop off, I still think that’s the case.

I'm sure you could pick out games where Brooks was similar. The difference is Brooks had a much larger sample size against high-level competition. Vogt's only game against a high-quality center/team this year has been against OSU and he fouled a ton. The sample size so far is too small, but based on last year I would be surprised if he ends up under 5.5 fouls per 40 minutes.

2 more fouls per 40 minutes is a large difference. That was the difference between Vogt and Brooks last year.

Mattos does start but it looks like he's mostly backed up by a young Latvian player the size of Diarra.

Harvey looks scared out there, when he starts slowing down and playing within himself he will be special, think he’s just as athletic as kw

Tough trying to find continuity in the early going. We have had Jarron hurt, Jaevin, Jeremiah, Jaume, Trevor, Zach, and Prince out indefinitely. We have been restricted in practice to install the offense and now will be restricted in games to run his offense.

Just keep winning is all I care. Jaevin was obviously very important to make the offense go. Could be a lot of ISO coming up for Jarron

I can’t remember a UC team with as many injuries as we currently have. Without Jaevin I expect an offense similar to SK’s senior year.

I think toughness is going to be the key between Vogt and Brooks. Vogt may not know exactly what is coming up and how to adjust to the physicality quickly. Eventually he will adjust but he’s going to have some rough games. I still think he is playing beyond expectations so it’s a bonus either way

Hate to make excuses but Brannen was late to the game for recruiting, which has put him behind the 8 ball for installing offense, and ultimately the limited ability for key players to get reps in practice doesn’t help. Now we are short handed needing to lean on players that aren’t quite ready

I think I shift minutes to Harvey.

Yes the game is moving to fast for him right now... But its time to learn on the fly.

IF he can become productive this yr it would really help

I am watching the replay currently. Interesting that about 4 minutes in Brannen subbed Jaevin in for McNeal and had Jarron playing PG. Jarron committed two early silly fouls though, so it didn't last long.

My first half impressions:

Vogt probably had 50 pounds on his defender for most of the half, he was able to post up in the paint at will. I believe Brannen mentioned this in this press conference, but we should have fed him more. Vogt could easily have had 20+ if we had fed him. Vogt did have problems defensively at times (couldn't match the speed of Illinois State).

Moore actually played well. He helped force a couple of travelling TO's and had a couple nice passes for assists. He looks like he belongs out there. If only he could hit a shot.

The PG's McNeal/MAW did not look good. McNeal had a TO or two by playing out of control and had a couple other close calls. MAW had a few TO's just from dumb mistakes. They need to clean it up.

Diarra flashes skill. He looks like he is playing not to make a mistake on offense. He needs to play to score or create. Him hesitating to make a move or a pass cost us several opportunities. On D he played well overall.

Jarron pretty much kept us in the half (and the game based on the radio).

Harvey was not impressive. He had one nice pass where was out of control, but bailed himself out. A couple fouls on defense where he didn't move his feet and reached.

Scott seems to be getting a little more comfortable with the offense. I think once he figures out his role and how to play in the offense he will be okay.

Illinois State had a lot of success off the dribble. We didn't do well stopping the drive.

2nd half observations. We need to do better boxing out on the defensive end. The guards need to work harder to rebound defensively and Vogt had a lot of trouble boxing out Illinois States much smaller center.

Vogt/Scott did a nice job using their size and strength to grab offensive rebounds.

Williams, Scott and Jarron stepped up at the end of the game. I wonder if anywhere keeps a fouls drawn statistic, it felt like Jarron drew at least half of Illinois State's foul.

Scott showed some good offensive skill. Though he also committed a couple dumb TO's. The whole team needs to do better at making smart passes and avoiding unforced TO's.

WKU beat Illinois State fairly comfortably (83 - 69) in their losers bracket game today.

FYI

I filed a complaint last night during the game and just heard back.

I was just issued a 10 dollar credit. So I’m down only 20 bucks. Hopefully the stream is improved

When I look at bowling greens stats so far, these things stick out:
-22nd in the nation in 3pt % (41% Is nuts)
-14th in the country in offensive turnover %... they don’t hurt themselves
-4th in the country in free throw percentage (83%)
-#342 in 2pt fg%... they literally shoot better from
3 then 2
-played an 80 possession road game against LSU and held their own, lost by 9
-they are great free throw shooters, but rarely ever get to the line.
-44% of their scoring comes from the 3 point line, that’s 8th in the nation
-they foul a lot

Where are you getting these stats? From what I've seen they shoot 47% from 2 and just under 36% from 3.
