His shot selection is terrible and he should be going to the rim more. If he'd do those 2 things he'd be fine.

His main contribution is providing a mismatch that the Cats can exploit when the 3 amigos are being squezzed. I agree he needs to slash to the hoop and feed the bigs and the wings. He has one of the best pump fakes in the league. He handles the rock as well as SK against bigger slower people. It will be rendered ineffective with out the fear of a perimeter shot. When he plays well the game is much easier for the wings. That is something Jackson will never give them. Every broadcast I've listened to has said, he works hard and hits that shot in proctice. If he doesn't shoot it in the context of what is happening in the game it will not be good for the team. To this point his shot selection has not been bad he just hasn't made many. There is a difference. If teams are allowed to play off him or Jackson with how little offense we get from the bigs it will not help us. They already can cheat off Modj and David. When he plays well we are a force. When the 4 spot doesn't play well we struggle offensively. His shot will get better. He needs to take it when its there and not force it.Completely agree.
You dont work on your shot in games (one as bad as his). You take time before and after practice to develop it. His shot has LOTS of developing to do. He can help this team NOW by using his athleticism and getting to the rim or cleaning up offensive put backs/ rebounds.
His shot selection is not terrible. If you played any ball at all you have to know that without the fear of a perimeter shot it is very difficult to drive to the rim. Guys play way off and you can't get by them. He is going to be the difference in the season for the Cats. If he gives them another option we have the chance to go very far in NCAA. If we're forced to rely solely on the 3 amigos we won't be as dangeroous of a team. He changed the complexion of the Oregon game and Pitt. His atheletism is as good as anyone on the team. Mick knows this and it is why he lets him shoot. If he could control his fouls he would be on the floor more minutes. He is not a complementary player on this team if you want them to make a deep run it the NCAA. he D's and boards and has the ability to break his defender down off the dribble.Something SK struggles with. His shot selection has not hurt this team at all. They are 13-1. If he finds his stroke and all indications are at practice he has it. We will be very tough to defend. His shot selection is terrible and he should be going to the rim more. If he'd do those 2 things he'd be fine.
Good points david! I was listening to Terry Nelson talk about JJ and Rubles shooting 3's. He stated they work very hard shooting them in practice and specifically JJ comes to the gym with SK before anyone else. He also mentioned they need to shoot them in games because their game as players need to evolve into multiple threats in scoring. If they find their shot just think, defenders would have to be more honest and not sag off them, it muddies things down. I'm not saying they need to be shooting 5+ threes a game but I wish the fans would stop gasping etc every time they think about shooting it. That's def not going to solve the problem. Lol
Have no problem with them shooting them once in awhile, but Rubles has the ability and tools to be a nightmare going to the basket. With his passing ability he could create so much by doing this more.

Bet you if he is able to actually make a three or some long J's he will be able to get to the rim more easily. Don't give yourself too much credit by saying you are one of the few that realize what he brings. Too bad he won't be able to get to the hoop when the scouting report is out on him to just play off a bit.
its not just what he can do for himself. It is about spreading the floor and creating space for others. When teams have to play him tight the whole team is better off. Rubles can be the whole package. Just needs experience. If mick didn't want him taking jump shots he wouldn't.Bjeff, I think you and I are the few who realize what he can provide.
For those saying if you dont have the fear of a jump shot you cant do other things is utterly ridiculous. Teams are going to give him that shot ALL day regardless if he hits one or two. However he has the ability few have ALONG with the size to take the ball to the basket. He can be a force alone just by doing that.
He can be the crowd pleaser and get these fans off their ass at the games, cuz our offense puts people to sleep as it is now. Offense sells tickets!!

If you aren't a threat at all to score from the outside your slashing abilities weaken and you become easy to defend. The prime example was Lance. He was the best slasher/scorer UC has seen in decades but because he didn't have an outside shot he was easy to defend...Teams are going to lay off of Rubles which makes it impossible to slash. NM did it and it limited him. Pitt for whatever unknown reason decided to play Rubles tight, which was very stupid of them. If you play Rubles tight he will get by you. Eventually it will show up on the scouting report if it hasn't already.
Not exactly it reduces the ability for Cash or any other player to get to the rim for the drive or dish. It is all about spacing. If his man is allowed to play off him and help out on other players that is not a good thing. I agree his shot looks ugly but all who have seen him at practice say he can knock it down. Telling him not to ever shoot a wide open three or any perimter shot is foolish if he is going to play up top in the weave which he does. If he was going to be a yancy type post player fine but in this offense he has to give them a threat from the perimeter or our offense will be reduced to scoring off outside shots, our defense or offensive rebounds. He is a huge key against the better teams.Exactly, let teams play off of him. Give him that extra room to create off the dribble. When they double down on him then he dishes out to Kila, Cash and Parker. If they dont then there is no reason why he cant take someone 1 on 1 off the dribble to the basket. It makes no sense for him to hoist up a shot from his hip. Thats not his game!

IF HIS MAN IS ALLOWED TO LAY OFF HIM IT WILL NOT BE EASIER TO DRIVE TO THE HOOP FOR ANYONE. THEY WILL HAVE ANOTHER DEFENDER IN THE PAINT.The easiest way to drive past a man is to beat him with your first step when he is guarding you closely not when you have to dribble into traffic to get to him. They aren't just glued to the floor you see. That becomes much more difficult when he is allowed to play off you. Also don't know what games your watching but I've seen Cash go to the hole many times. Also SK finishes well in traffic but he has a suspect handle and has trouble creating his own shot.If this were the case he should take it to the rim everytime. Hes playing against half a defender. Bottom line, we have our shooters and we have our slashers. Kila is both. Cash cannot drive the ball to the basket and we need someone other than Kila to do so. That is why we are settling for outside shots right now and struggling to find any flow, not because Rubles isnt jacking up shots
And I never said he shouldnt take any shots. I said he is most valuable to this team by driving and crashing the boards. He doesnt have to hit the outside shot to be able to do that.
By giving him the green light is foolish
