Watching UConn and Memphis game GG please takenotes NAPIER is the truth he has 20 assist in 2 games. They pass inside outside to there open shooter they share the ball and ut starts with him. Come on GG run the point with a purpose.

Shabazz Napier is probably the best point guard in the country. Guyn is a completely different player and Cincinnati is a much different team.

Your right he is best point guard because he does what point guards are suppose to do. And yes Cincinnati is a different team and will be a better team if we share the ball

I agree that UC needs to be a better passing team, but he is a once in a generation type of player. He leads the team in scoring, assists, rebounds and steals this season. Oh, and UConn probably isn't as good of a team as Cincinnati.

Based on preseason expectations, I'm amazed to say I agree with that.

They are a lot like Cincinnati last year. They have had to rely too much on two guards (Boatright and Napier vs Cash and SK), however if they continue to get the type of performances they got from Daniels tonight, UConn can be top 20 good.

I would maybe say twice in a generation since Kemba Walker was not too long ago. I hope we have something similar eventually in Caupain...even though his ball skills are not quite there yet. He has a lot of other nice PG qualities though.

Napier is in a category of his own. He has the ability to get to the basket, make lay ups, has a nice jump shot. GG doesn't really have that. He is good on on the ball defense. GG should know his role has should be limited to shooting no more than 2-3 three's a game.

I think the sentiment is right. GG in my estimation just simply isnt a point guard. He's a below average passer, shooter, and driver. I think he is an elite on the ball defended (When he doesnt foul). He just needs to fit into his role better to become more effective. However lets recognize you just cant go to GG and say "Look at Napier...... do that!" At some point hard work will only take you so far in some of these categories. You have to have great talent to do these things well at the highest level. Napier has it, GG does not.

i have been making the argument for the last 2 years that GG is not a PG...maybe in street ball, but not in regulation...he has a "hesitate/stutter" dribble...he hovers out past the 3pt line and does not want the ball in his except to shoot...the reality has to be setting in soon for Cronin that GG is an intense on-the-ball defender and a solid backup player that can give the other guards a breather...unless he is driving (which he is very solid in that area), he should not be shooting...i said the same last year about Rubles, and everyone including Cronin said to be patient...i am concerned that Cronin will continue to start GG next year solely based upon his tenure...Caupain has the most PG qualities/characteristics than any Cronin recruit has had since Warren...

Barring a injury to Caupain ABSOLUTELY NO WAY DOES GG START AT PG NEXT YEAR> Sorry to yell but it ain't happening. He isn't playing the majority of the minutes now. He certainly isn't getting minutes when the game is on the line. MC is using him to chew up some minutes because freshman generally have issues picking up fouls. With the rule changes it is even worse on the youngsters.Better to use GG early then late when the game might be close. I mean the last two games TC came in and picked up two quick fouls and was out of the game for the rest of the half. Also telling a guy don't shot is not the answer. Players especially PG need to know there roles and capabilities. If the shot clock is running down he might need to shoot it. If the clock is running down and the only available pass is to throw it to Rubles who will need to jack up a jumper or JJ for that matter I would rater he set himself and shoot it. Having a guy out there who is handling the ball as much as a PG is and telling him don't shoot is giving the defense a big advantage. Other teams figure out real quick if a guy won't shoot and can double on others if that be the case.GG has made some shots. If I go back on this site I will find people on here who have said that his shot is not bad at all. He isn't shooting well now but he has hit some shots. Lets not panic or go over the edge. Heck people wanted to run Sanders out of the rotation earlier because he couldn't throw it in the ocean.GG is fine in his role and he wil eventually come out of his slump. As I said, he has hit some shots and his form isn't God awful ugly like Rubles. There is no comparison between the two.

The fact that GG is better defensively and will be a senior, my money is on him to be in exactly the same role next year, starting...with playing time dependent on how he is playing in each game. That doesn't mean that TC won't start. I think KJ will be the one switching with GG with he and TC interchangeable at PG.

After reading your post I certinly feel better about my perdiction. You wouldn't want to make a wager on it would You?

I think KJ has a good chance to be just as good of a defender as Guyn is. And KJ has offensive skills.

absolutely LongHaul. GG will be in the rotation next yaer but he won't be starting. His playing time will be reduced because of the emergence of Caupain.

Who will play the wings will be a interesting battle. Morman,KJ,Sanders and Thomas will all be looking for PT at the wings. One of our two remaining Schollys could also be used to bring another wing. Unless another PG is brought in which is highly unlikely until the class of 2015. GG will be the back up PG next year.

I know its very early to be thinking about next year but Goodness, the competition for PT will really be intense. If MC runs the same set as this year PG, 2 wings and 2 bigs. We'll have Caupain and GG at PG, Morman,KJ,Sanders and Thomas as wings. Does Clark play a wing or a 4? Is Moore a 4 or 5? DeBerry and Strickland are 5's. Lawrence is a 4. All that and we still have 2 open schollys. I think they will keep one for 2015. But that still leaves 1. Judging by who we are actively recruiting I would say it has to be very good shooting wing.

Anybody got any thoughts??? Lots of depth. Could a transfer be on the way? Could someone be asked to redshirt? Would a JC player be a good fit?

I would think that Gary Clark is a wing player and not a 4. Jermaine is going to be a 4 but he's going to need to learn to play in the post. Right now he feels like more of a 3 so this off season will be an important one for JL's development. I think you'll see Jermaine at the 4 and Clark coming in to spell Shaq at the 3 and also splitting time with Sanders. 5 is still a huge question mark. We'll pretty much be set at the 1 and 2 with a 4 man rotation consisting of TC, GG, KJ and DM.

Here's how I would see the rotation playing out.

PG - TC, GG
SG - KJ ,DM
SF - SW, JS, GC
PF - JL, ????
C - Quadri, Strickland

Agree with you a 100% about this being a big off season for Lawrence. Really need for him to grow into that 4 spot. Clark is 6'7 and listed at 210.

5 will be Strickland and DeBerry I think you forgot DeBerry. Moore could be in the mix at 4. He supposedly has a sweet shot from longrange. The question is does he have the quicks to guard the position. If not he is a 5. In that case GC will probably play some 4.

Here is how it actually will play out:

PG- Caupain, Guyn, Johnson, Morman
SG- Johnson, Morman, Guyn
SF- Thomas/Sanders, Morman, Clark
PF- Lawrence, Clark, Sanders, Moore
C- DeBerry, Strickland, Moore

Only seniors will be Sanders and Guyn, probably will be somewhat of a rebuilding year. However, the team after has a chance to be special.
