Post Game Reflection

Youre assuming everyone used the 5 to set screens in the high post, you also are forgetting we switched back. Lawrence did not spend the majority of his time guarding the perimeter because of a switch. He was in the post banging away. Yes we switch every screen but he was greatly out manned when he had to guard a 5 in the post.
Goodnight dude. Ur using JL a player that didn't play over 30+ min in past month. How many times did u see JJ/Rubles guard perimeter? How many times did you see Guyn/TC trying guard post?

Lawrence is definitely the most talented player on the team. He was really starting to find his role on the team before he got hurt against Memphis. Unfortunately he got hurt right before the stretch of bottom feeders as UC went nearly a month between playing good competition. For that I don't really blame Mick for not bringing him along this season.

If he can get into the gym this offseason, bulk up and watch some film there is no reason why he cannot be a double figure scorer. As I was telling you guys before the season, Lawrence WAS not going to be a huge scorer this season. I said he'd have his moments but it wouldn't be consistent. Getting him back to his natural spot will be key.

Agreed. Just let him put on about 15 pounds in the weight room. I can see him being a double figure scorer next year as well.

The point is there is a difference between playing the 4 and 5 on both offense and defense.

Lol. Under his logic, we should fire Mick if he fails with Lawrence, even if we have good teams and everyone else develops. I don't blame you for being baffled...

He made a really stupid argument. I rebutted him. He then acted like that was his argument all along. I reminded him of his original dumb argument. He said he stood by that. Mind blown.

Outside of this debate about Cronin and JL...what is JL best position? What is he going to be best at? I thought this year his dribbling was very weak and he def couldn't create to get a good shot. I am confused with what kind of player he is going to be. Granted I know he just finished his freshman year.

Is he going to have a similar career as JJ? Think he is a jump shooter then finally realize he isn't and waste 3 years til he adds muscle and learns to make post moves? I guess next year will be telling.

I think he was very tentative around the rim this year. When he has to go up against these guys that weigh a good 20-30 pounds more than he does, he tries to hesitate to either draw a foul or have them jump at the wrong time, which allows him to make the layup. Unfortunately, in college basketball, you don't have that type of time. If you hesitate for even a second or two, it's over. I think once he gets a little stronger, he will be a better finisher. If he can finish better, people will back off of him and he will have more open jumpers to knock down.

What do u want him to say? That he thinks he'll suck? LOL Lawrence played out of position by necessity this season. I don't think we got a good read on what he'll be.

I'm still mixed with Lawrence. I mean at times he looks like a complete stiff but then I remind myself he is a freshman and he is a legit 6'10". I'm remaining optimistic on him. I'm hoping his lack of athleticism and coordination are due to the injuries and in time he'll get it back...But Mick did say that Lawrence will be their leading scorer next year and will be averaging in the double figures so it wasn't just a matter of him not wanting to say anything bad about him. Either way, hope he is right.

As far as the playing out of position by necessity, I've seen this said numerous times. Where would he have played that would have given him a better chance to succeed? As a face up 4? That's really all he did anyway, and do you truly believe that he would have been better putting the ball on the floor? It was a turnover almost every time he did that. And while his mid-range shot looks nice, it doesn't matter if it doesn't go in, and he couldn't make anything this year. Eventually you have to make them. So I'm not sure playing any other position would have suited him any better.

I guess were all hoping he can blossom into role Mick tried to give to Rubles. As of now though I believe Shaq and Clark should have that role. Lawrence offensive game is 10x better than Rubles but his handles are 5x worse than Rubles. As of today Lawrence is dynamic in press D and good offensive rebounder

This is false. Comparing the handles of Rubles to Lawrence is just ridiculous. Lawrence can handle it like a guard. Rubles falls over when he tries to cross someone over. Lawrence has better handles than Rubles and its not even close.

I believe he was playing out of position because he is a tall 3 checking in for our center at times. Coming in I thought he was going to be a Kevin Durant type player. Taller than the average 3 that could shoot over guys. I am hoping the wrist injury messed his shot up and he will be able to knock down the mid range jumper and some threes. That is the position he will be playing professionally, so he needs to start playing there

I'd like to see a little Kevin Garnet in his game. He needs to put on some weight but i like him a lot going forward. Film of gary clark are encouraging as well. We need another player to take a big leap in development like JJ did this year and i think we will all be pleasantly surprised again.

Gary Clark looks like a more skilled Justin Jackson. I am excited to see him as a major mismatch at the 4 spot.

A tall 3? You got to be kidding. Lawrence isn't even close to a 3 and I'm not sure what he does that would lead you to believe that. I get the fact that he is a face up 4, but he doesn't have very good ball skills and his range, at least right now, is limited to about 10 feet (and he isn't even hitting those).

He lost all his confidence shooting jump shots. Hopefully a healthy offseason and a lot of work in the gym will get it back. He also was a very good passer in HS. I believe it is all mental with him.

Watch his high school highlights... His handle and where he catches the ball from. He looked more like a 3 coming in. Also he came in only weighing 200 pounds. I expected to see him at the 3 to be honest. Maybe that was my mistake

No offense, but I'd rather trust what my eyes have seen than high school highlight tapes. And I'm not saying the guy doesn't have talent or potential, but nothing I've seen shows he is a SF. And I don't think Mick believes he is a 3 either. I never thought JJ was a 3 either. Nothing wrong with being a 4.

The problem with that is we did not have any big men to play. Maybe he just spent last year playing the 4 because Strickland was ineligible and Dave did not contribute much. He played where we needed him to play

Mick's job is not on the line, not even close. BTW, the WVU fans in Morgantown are really abandoning ship and pressing for a new coach.

First, what does WVU has to do with this thread?

Second, You're correct. Mick's job isn't on the line. 3 NCAA tourney wins in 8 years would be the end for most high major schools. At UC you get a raise.
