Terry Nelson said on his Facebook Justin Jenifer will most likely be the all-time assist leader when he leaves UC. He is going to be good, but this is still Troy's team. Remember the UConn game last year? Purdue? Troy is starting every game this year and every game next year. He has the experience, plays D and does not make mistakes. Mick loves that.

Evans plays more this year just because he only has Shaq in front of him. Shaq makes a ton of mistakes and has his fair share of off nights. This is Cobb's last year and Jenifer will see a lot more minutes next season. Jenifer won't play the 2, but there will be times he's in the game with TC and Justin might bring the ball up (like Cobb last year). Would love to see Jenifer, TC, Cumberland/Evans, Clark and Washington at times next year!

Very sad to hear about Quad. I wonder how long it's going to take for him to transfer, or if he accepts the role being last off the bench?

I always love how people want to take a freshman to immediately be the starter when you have a really good, proven player already in that position. I'll take Troy over Jenifer right now. Jenifer will have a really nice career here, but he isn't taking Troy's spot.
freshman winning championships. Troy isn'ta really good PG either. Troy has zero penetration and can't hit outlet pass. I need PG that makes everybody around him better. Name ONE player that benefits from Tc playing PG. Caupain is a 2 guard not PG

Coach say your going to play. All time great say your best PG he's seen at uc. I wouldn't be shocked if Tc losses starting spot all together.

You can't score 70pts game or win championships if your PG can't pass. Jenifer can get 7+ assists in one half. Players want to score and it's gone be easier also less stressful having jenifer on court. If he was 6'1-6'2 he would be top 10 player in country. 7th grade he was #1 player in country. On top of he's a city PG.

I have ro agree with Bulldog. This program has become very mediocre. We're no longer a major player in college basketball in anyone's eyes. We have been missing 2 major components in my opinion....a true point guard who can really see the floor and distribute the ball, and, shooters. When you can't push the pace and have a guard who can make the good pass for an easier bucket, or penetrate and dish, then you evolve into what we've become under Mick, a plodding half court team that struggles to score because we don't have great shooters.

This year, our shooting should be better, and we now have a point guard who can push the pace, find the open players with great passing, and who also looks like he will be a solid penetrator as well. If we use some stupid logic like, "this is Troy's team for 2 more years" and we bury this guy on the
bench for 32 minutes a game, then shame on us. If what I saw on Saturday was just a lucky, one-time, performance, then I stand corrected. But, I've played and watched enough basketball to know a good player when I see one. This guy looks legit.

I don't think anyone expected a little known juco guard named Nick Van Exel to come in and steal the starting point guard spot and lead us to the final 4, but he did. Who would have imagined Gunnar Kiel to be threatened for playing time by a freshman? Because as we know, this is Gunnar's team for two more years.....or is it?

Based on what I saw Saturday, I would be very disappointed in Mick Cronin as a coach if this guy is only playing 8 or 9 minutes a game this year.

Even the legend Logan got his job took on #1 team in nation to a pass first PG. Martin and co.started catching oops from half court.

You gotta understand though that while Jenifer is certainly a great passer, thats not the only aspect of the game he needs to grasp to even think about taking a spot away from TC.

I mean, while TC could have done a better job at times, he was the guy you wanted with the ball at the ends of games.

Cronin is an Intensity and defensive first coach. You earn your time by what you do on the effort and defensive end. I mean, basing anything you saw on a scrimmage game this early on, doesn't really say much about what jenifer can do in a live game situation.

He is gonna start out playing single digit minutes and will only see more IF he earns them on the defensive end. I mean he is going to be out matched with bigger point guards this season and if they run all over him, I don't see how he gets more playing time.

Basically just saying its far far too early to saying anything concrete about Jenifer.

WTF are you even talking about? We get it man, you like Jenifer, but Troy is pretty good too.

RELAX FRANKIE

I don't think anyone is saying that Troy isn't good. I like TC a lot. I like Cobb a lot too. I also know there is more to the game than passing. I remember attending midnight madness when Van Exel first appeared in our program and being blown away that night, and the rest is history. Until Saturday, I knew very little about Jenifer and had zero expectations.....and came away giddy with excitement about the future. I love Troy, but this guy looks like the real deal to me and the coach will obviously have to figure things out. We are poised to possibly become relevent again and I sure hope Mick gets it right. We're still getting no respect. I picked up a preseason publication last night and it had us finishing 3rd in the league, a 10 seed in the tournament, and one and done. It's time to silence the doubters .

When we had our scrims last year everybody thought Morman was going to be unstoppable. He looked great and looked like one of our best players. Then when the actual games started he looked like a totally different player. Wide open scrims have ways of making certain types of players look very good.

Troy has 2 years starting experience and has improved each year. Not sure how it's stupid logic to expect the upperclassman to start over the unproven freshman...

I could not DISagree with this post more. There is a reason why JJ is not the number one player in his class. TC is the starting point guard he has size, he plays in selfish basketball and he wins games. He can't drive? The kid you are taking about is going to get blocked a lot as he learns what division 1 basketball means. I think he is talented and will play. I even think Troy will play the 2 with Jenifer on the court but that's only because justin cannot guard anyone at the 2.

A lot has to be seen before we say this young man is better than TC.

Bold statement by Nelson.

Not sure if that is the same Logan that lost his starting spot

To the same degree, if Jenifer was so awesome, how come nobody is saying that Clark didn't progress, that he can't drive and doesn't have a pull up game all based on a preseason scrimmage. He only had 2 pts.

Just so you know, gobearcats hasn't updated those stats in a long time. I believe Deonta Vaughn is now the all time assists leader with 511 per http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/deonta-vaughn-1.html
You'll also notice that SK isn't on the list for all time scorers even though he is second.

yep your right. Gobearcats did update there 2015-16 media guide today (all 130 pages, i read through most). And Deonta Vaughn is the school leader. To be honest, his numbers weren't that impressive, he just happened to start all 4 years he was in school for the most part.

If jenifer plays 8-10 min this year, 15-18 next and then starts his jr and Sr year, then he can certainly be the school leader just by averaging the 5 or 6 assist per game he is capable of.

I dunno how every else feels but I think the bearcats are already relevant. The last 3 seasons, they've had some of the most dominating offense in the country.

Were one of like 8 teams who have made the tourney the last 5 years

The bearcats are certainly back and they continue to climb. Cronin has certainly rebuilt the program, the numbers don't lie

I am assuming you meant dominating defense, right?

But I agree with you. Saying UC isn't nationally relevant would be a lie. I doubt any team wants to draw the Bearcats, or see the Bearcats, in their region in the NCAA tourney. Our defense has been top tier for years and opposing coaches know it.

Recruiting wise, Cronin has really done a great job recently. Especially if this season is as successful as we are expecting him bringing back Ellis, and bringing in Cobb and DeBerry, will be looked at as a huge get for him. Going forward, the current freshman all seem to be promising players, and with Cumberland and Washington coming in next year, the future is bright.

I think a couple of our biggest problems from last year included lack of a penetrating guard and lack of consistent outside shooting (3 point). With Jenifer, we could solve both. If he can knock down shots and get into the lane, it will be party time in Cincinnati because not many teams will stop us. Not sure about why Moorman did not get more minutes. Maybe it was his behavior off the court or in the classroom, either way he's gone and no sense in dwelling on that.

Here is the thing. If Jenifer is going to get any more than 10 minutes per game this year or next it's probably NOT going to be at the 2. Which means Caupain will have to play off the ball (at least part time) for that to happen because I think Troy will get 30 minutes+ each year. I don't know why people feel Troy will lose minutes if Jenifer plays PG...Troy is going to get his minutes either way IMO.

KJ (as it stands now) would likely be the guy to lose the most minutes if Jenifer is really good and needs to be on the court both this year and next.
