Help Support BearcatTalk:

I dunno how every else feels but I think the bearcats are already relevant. The last 3 seasons, they've had some of the most dominating offense in the country.

Were one of like 8 teams who have made the tourney the last 5 years

The bearcats are certainly back and they continue to climb. Cronin has certainly rebuilt the program, the numbers don't lie

I believe we are relevant but we haven't been relevant as a legit title contender in the Cronin era. I certainly think we are moving in the right direction (on the court and in recruiting) and I think this year we can make perhaps the biggest step yet.

If we can get above average production out of the 3 this year look out! With Thomas showing a lot of dedication in the off season and Evans coming in...I think we might be looking better there than last year.

Troy has 2 years starting experience and has improved each year. Not sure how it's stupid logic to expect the upperclassman to start over the unproven freshman...
Name ONE player troy competed with for his starting job? He started as a freshman why can't jenifer?

I could not DISagree with this post more. There is a reason why JJ is not the number one player in his class. TC is the starting point guard he has size, he plays in selfish basketball and he wins games. He can't drive? The kid you are taking about is going to get blocked a lot as he learns what division 1 basketball means. I think he is talented and will play. I even think Troy will play the 2 with Jenifer on the court but that's only because justin cannot guard anyone at the 2.

A lot has to be seen before we say this young man is better than TC.
Jenifer was #1 ranked player in country in 7th grade. Size isn't a factor with him. He plays 2x bigger than troy. He's not scared to play with anybody. Played against better competition this summer than troy played against in our conference

Not sure if that is the same Logan that lost his starting spot
Logan lost his spot. We don't have that great history of pass first PG. Satterfield only played 2yrs and he clearly is best of all time at uc

So, being ranked one of the top 68 programs in the nation, and then losing the first or second game every year means we are relevant?

I see relevance as being in one of the Power 5 conferences. I see relevance as a steady influx of 4 and 5-star players, and some MacDonald's All-Americans and an annual top 25 recruiting class. I see relevance as being a top 25 ranked program almost every season. I see relevance as being frequently in the title conversation.

We have auguably the best team in the Cronin era ready to start the season. It's a team I feel could be elite 8 or final 4 caliber depending on how everything shakes out. Nothing I saw at the scrimmage the other day changed my thinking in that regard. If anything, it strengthened my feelings and got me even more excited. Yet, in spite of returning almost our complete roster from last year, and adding three very good players, we are getting very little respect from the preseason publications. I've seen two magazines. One had us a 10 seed and one and done. The other had us an 8 seed and out in the 2nd round. Neither had us ranked. Nobody cares if you've made the tournament 20 straight times if you can never make it out of the first weekend, and many times not even out of the first game. We search for any little tidbit to grasp onto to make a case for relevance, but the truth is, we aren't relevant yet in the eyes of the nation. We're about to spend many millions of dollars to cut our seating capacity in our arena by 3,000. That doesn't support an argument for relevance.

In spite of all this, I see a light at the end of this tunnel, and I believe it begins with this team. The so-called experts have missed it with this group (in my opinion). I think recruiting has picked up. I hope this season begins a new era in Bearcat Basketball where we see a long run of success and where we become a fixture in the title contender conversation.

When your starting PG only avg 2.9 assists for career and NOBODY else avg over 1.5 your going struggle to score 60 game. You can't win if you don't have PG giving you at least 5 assist a game.

Mick play his cards right which I believe he will this team can compete with anybody

I can see Troy playing off the ball some this year but for no more than 5 minutes a game. He is vital to this team at the point guard position because he doesn't turn the ball over, on a team that struggled mightily with that last year. As for Jenifer he will have his up and downs this year just like any freshman. Teams are going to play off him a bit and force him to shoot and that is going to cut down on his ability to drive. Where he needs to be a difference maker is in the open court. Hopefully he can get out and push the ball. I think he may average 10-15 minutes a game in the early portion of the schedule but once the games get tough he wont see more than 7 minutes a game.

This thread has become comical. We're talking about a freshman 3 star recruit like he's the second coming of Bob Cousey because he played pretty well in a 30 minute intra-squad scrimmage the other day.

Not saying that Jenifer can't or won't be a good player but pump the brakes a little bit. The kid hasn't even played in a meaningful game yet and I guarantee no one that posts on this board ever watched the kid play in high school. Maybe see him play once before you declare him our all time assists leader??

Sometimes this board is the best comic relief I get all day.

Why would you guys want a player that doesn't push pace or can't pass to be PG. Troy can't get 5 assists a game. Is a sg not pg. Only has played pg by default.

Family in Baltimore have cousin that went to his high school. Kid played in all big time tournaments against best of best. Was #1player in COUNTRY as 7th grader. It's like having Peyton manning or Trent dilfer. Dilfer can run a team without turning ball over but doesn't make anybody around him better. Manning can hit every pass and put guys in position to score when he passes. Blind man can see Tc has big time trouble getting us into our offense. Jenifer has played PG exclusively his entire life, tc still learning.

I think Jenifer is the real deal. I think he will have a stellar career as a bearcat. But, I do not think he will have the opportunity to start. I think he will be a perfect change of pace PG off the bench. Similar to Tyler Ulis' role for UK last year. But also, note this. Out of the four final four teams last year, Tyler Ulis was probably the only pass first PG, and he didn't even start. Having a pass first point guard is no longer essential in this landscape of college basketball. All point guards are scoring guards anymore. But I do think Jenifer can earn 12 mpg and he think he could definitely make an impact in those minutes, similar to what Ulis did for UK

I only had to see Nick Van Exel once at midnight madness in whatever year that was to form the same opinion. How did that work out?

When you see a player with skills unlike any previous player that Mick has recruited, freshman or not, you have to get excited. I have never seen Jenifer play except in that one game, and really hadn't read or even thought about him much. We have been complaining about point guards who can't deliver the rock forever. I saw more good passes and assists in that game than I typically see in a season. I apologize for being excited about a player.

It's not 7th grade anymore, so you can stop saying he deserves playing time as a freshman in college because he was the number one player in 7th grade. You are one of the most dedicated trolls I have ever witnessed and I respect that. For you to have upwards 2000 posts and still going full steam I applaud you. Keep it up!

Duke had Jones, Wisconsin had 5 players avg1.5+ asts/gm, Mich st
Had two over 4.5 asts/gm. We had one player avg over 2asts/gm. That's not gone win you ball games against top teams. So how easy Cleveland, gs, and spurs score? They all score off assisted passes.

keep it casual name calling isn't cool. Would tc started last year if guyn wasn't hurt. Btw, I called guyn not playing ever again before injury ever came out

What position was Tc go start at last year if guyn didn't quit? Lol the guy couldn't beat guyn out his job
