One other thing I really enjoyed about the post game was the various interviews. One that really stuck out to me was Dusty Baker. I have, like many, questioned many of his calls and decisions or lack there of, but I have never questioned his passion for the game. This was evident in his comments on the field. You could feel his emotions in his voice. I do not know what the future holds for Dusty and the Reds past next year, but I am definitely appreciative for the way he has managed the club. The interviews with Castellini, Rolen, and Jocketty were very good as well. The Reds television crew did a great job as usual. It is a great day to be a Reds fan!

The Reds clinch, BIG DEAL.

Look, Im just as pumped as anyone to watch the Reds in the playoffs, its an exciting time for sure.

But people and the news are overreacting about this "accomplishment". Yes the Reds have not seen this in 15 years, big deal. They have tried and failed 15 times, and they finally get it right and everyone wants to go crazy. The world series has not been won (nor do i think it will) so whats the frenzy for?

I feel sorry for you. If you can't find even a little bit of excitement or happiness as a fan in the Reds winning the division, then I am sure you can't find it even in the more important things in life.

Its called reading. Ponder over yander on my second sentence.

Bottom line is the reds have finally accomplished something they get paid millions to do...

Jason's right. Your second sentence doesn't make any sense in the context of your statement. It's like saying "no offense" right before you launch into an entirely offensive statement. That doesn't work...in the same way saying you're excited, then saying nothing exciting happened doesn't work.

This is exciting, especially the way it happened. If you don't think hitting a walk-off home run in the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth to clinch the division title at home is rare, special, and exciting (i.e. a big deal)...you don't care for baseball.

And yes, the Reds get paid millions. But it's still millions less than most every other team gets paid to do it, and the Reds beat those teams (Cubs, Cards, Astros, and Brewers).

I was there. It was glorious. Nobody wanted to leave!

Me too... it was a great time and a moment I'll certainly never forget. Classic ending to what thus far has been a classic season... now they need to get that #2 seed so they don't see Philly in the first round.

Just saying congrats to all you Reds fans. I can only imagine how nice it must feel, my Jays haven't been in the playoffs in about as long as you guys were. The Reds and my boy Votto are my team for the playoffs!!

It was a special moment many of us will never forget because of the drought we had... certainly not like the ho-hum Yankees who have made the post season 15 of the past 16 seasons...

Well that game was a tough pill to swallow. That hurt more than the no-hitter. I did find one real positive moment in the game. Aroldis Chapman is good! If he can stay healthy, he stands the chance to have similar success to David Price, or even more success. Tonight he did not have his best stuff, but he went head to head with the heart of the Philly lineup. The kid does not have fear. It would have been nice for him to have a 1-2-3 inning, but with the defensive miscues it did not happen. The next five years with Chapman could be great, or at least very entertaining. Go Reds!
Go Bearcats!

I was at the game against the Phillies, and the atmosphere was unbelievable. With the crowd that night, I understand the concept of Cincinnati being a baseball town. The way the season ended did suck, but this team gave me a great summer of entertainment, something lacking for many years. Whether it was the walk-offs in the beginning of the year, Mike Leake's dominant first couple of months, or the MVP year of Joey Votto; the Reds were something special. No matter the outcome, there is one thing that cannot be taken away. The pure excitement and jubilation of watching Bruce hit the walk-off to clinch the playoffs was one of the best nights for me in a long time. It ranked up there with UC clinching their first BCS birth. Lets hope winning continues in Cincinnati.
Go Bearcats!

Votto agrees to a 3 yr deal worth 38million.

Good deal for both sides.

Wish it could have been a 5 or 6 year deal but getting him locked up for multiple years is great none the less. They've got the core of the lineup in place for the next three years now with Bruce and Votto. Build, build, build...

RT @JimDayTV: ESPNdeportes.com is reporting Reds agree with SP Johnny Cueto (12-7, 3.64 ERA in 2010) on 4-yr, $27 million deal

Final Analysis

The Reds are doing all the right things to distance themselves from the losing culture that had plagued the franchise since the late 1990s. After years of bad contracts, the Jocketty-led front office has a clear-cut plan. Signing Bruce and Votto sent a message to the rest of the homegrown players: perform and the organization will take care of you. “We like the direction we’re going in, building with young players,” Jocketty says. The Reds are expected to make another run at the division title. But with an overall young starting rotation, Cincinnati is still at least a year or two away from making a deep postseason run.
