Help Support BearcatTalk:

Chapman made his debut tonight and was absolutely nasty! He topped out at 102 mph on his fastball and broke off an 87 mph breaking ball. He pitched a 1-2-3 inning with 1 strikeout. He was as advertised and I am looking forward to him helping the reds into the playoffs. Cincinnati is really starting to feel like a sports town again with the Bearcats, Bengals, and now the Reds winning. Go Reds!
Go Bearcats!

I was there to witness it and it was incredible... nothing like it both from a pitching standpoint and an atmosphere standpoint, even though there were only 19,000 people there...

Dude was throwing smoke, and once he tossed a slider or curve the batters were way ahead of it and swung at everything. They had to start their swing so early in the pitcher's motion that they had no idea what they were swinging at. Just wild guesses on every pitch.

That's the most disappointing statistic of the night.

14,000 the night before?

19,000 when Chapman moves to the "bigs?"

There should be 30,000 strong EVERY game from this point out.

This doesn't falll SOLELY on Cincinnatians. It falls on fans from Indiana, Kentucky, and all of SW Ohio.

It's not just a Cincinnati problem, heard that Tampa Bay and Atlanta also saw similar numbers and both of those teams are near the top.

The City is buzzing!!

But don't forget the Cincinnati Commandos winning the CIFL Title either! :D

Tampa has experienced attendance problems since the club's conception. Let's not compare to them.

I heard ATL had problems.

Cincinnati is a die-hard sports town. We love our hometown teams. I'm surprised and shocked at the recent attendance.

I understand your argument, but I'm not the type of person that justifies results by comparing myself to others. I'm not saying you do that either.

Regardless, there needs to be 30,000 in the seats.

No problem with your argument. Just wanted to point out that MLB has some issues. The Reds problem is the lack of success for 20 years has caused an erosion of Season Ticket Holders. My company dropped them this year because of economics, had them since the 60's. Weekday games during school has always been an issue for this team.

Now with that all said, I find that as I get older I prefer to watch things at home in High Def as compared to taking a 45 min to an hour drive each way. I think I heard that the Reds have some of the best broadcast ratings for MLB.

The main problem with baseball is too many games and that just about everygame is televised. The typical fan might get down to 5-10 games a year. They're not going on a hot Monday night with school starting back. The weekend had good attendance. Its just too easy to pick and choose what games to go to and weeknights this time of year aren't high on peoples list. The TV ratings are up, so that's a good sign. I agree that every game at this point should have 30,000, but I can't get down there on weeknights easily so I can't blame others for not going.

And Chapman was awesome last night! As nparker pointed out -- he was as advertised. That's the most important thing to me. Granted it was one inning, but who was the last player to come up with this type of buzz and actually deliver on it?

Is votto the MVP? I say yes. But if the Rockies make the playoffs I could see the award going to carlos gonzalez

Actually the Rockies MVP has switched over the past three weeks... Troy Tulowitski (SP?) has played out of his mind in that time- just like Carlos did for much of August. If a Rockie were to get it now it would be Tulo, not Gonzo.

The Reds clinch, BIG DEAL.

Look, Im just as pumped as anyone to watch the Reds in the playoffs, its an exciting time for sure.

But people and the news are overreacting about this "accomplishment". Yes the Reds have not seen this in 15 years, big deal. They have tried and failed 15 times, and they finally get it right and everyone wants to go crazy. The world series has not been won (nor do i think it will) so whats the frenzy for?

I love the excitement. I was thirteen years old the last time the reds made the playoffs. One thing I have learned being a Reds fan; enjoy it while it lasts, because you never know when it will happen again. This is especially true in baseball, with the lack of a salary cap, and the numerous amounts of trades, a continuous streak of winning pennants is rare, let alone dynasties. I love seeing this team so exciting and celebrating. Like Gomes said, this was something that every five year old baseball player/fan dreams about experiencing. I know that this season has been special for the Reds and has been very enjoyable for me. Even if they lose in the first round of the playoffs, it is still an accomplishment to be proud of. This team is very young, and I hope that this team will be a force in baseball for years to come.
If anything, this is great for the city of Cincinnati.
Go Reds!
Go Bearcats!

I feel sorry for you. If you can't find even a little bit of excitement or happiness as a fan in the Reds winning the division, then I am sure you can't find it even in the more important things in life.

Its called reading. Ponder over yander on my second sentence.

Bottom line is the reds have finally accomplished something they get paid millions to do...
