April Fools!

The sad part is i really did here that he will be taking a new position, and this is from a reliable source. he stated he is not getting enough money or respect. so i hope whoever they bring in is going to accept pennies on the dollar. you can also expect all but about one of the incoming recruits to leave.

Where do you guys get this stuff?

Mick Cronin’s agent was scheduled to meet yesterday with UC officials about Cronin’s contract extension. Cronin wouldn’t comment on what transpired in that meeting other than to say by text message that he had nothing to report. On the same day Marquette’s Buzz Williams agreed to a 7-year rollover contract at $2 million a year.

I was wondering the same thing.

I don't get people throwing this stuff out there with nothing credible to back it. It goes contrary to everything I know which is:

1) Mick and the University want him to be here.

2) They are working toward an agreement.

3) Mick has given his attorney the lead in this so he can continue to concentrate on basketball matters.

4) There is at this time nothing tying Mick to any job other then people saying it on boards.

5) There are no better situations out there. Oklahoma? Missouri? C'mon! He has too much invested here and has the program turning the corner and trending upward. Can't see him walking away from that.

We'll see, I guess I could be wrong, could be hearing wrong, but there is nothing but rumors to the contrary. Until I see something concrete I'm not worried in the least. Mick is on the NC State wish list so if you're watching that's the place to look in my opinion. Others on the list are Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart, Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall. Those three are Athletic Director Debbie Yow's three hopefuls.

Below is an article out of Kansas City on the Mizzou search. I hear they may pursue Larry Drew Head Coach of the Atlanta Hawks as well.

One Thing Is Certain In Missouri Tigers Coaching Search

Apr 01 7:30a by Joel Thorman

The Missouri Tigers coaching search will continue this weekend at the Final Four. It's been quite a ride for Mizzou fans the last few weeks. From the Mike Anderson saga and his departure for Arkansas to Matt Painter's seemingly inevitable leap to Columbia and then the announcement that he was staying at Purdue.

Yeah, it's not always fun being a Missouri fan. But, as they say, the show must go on and it will this weekend at the Final Four. The original plan, according to reports, was to hire a coach before the Final Four. Obviously that plan's not going to work out.

So the new plan is figure something out at the coaching convention that is the Final Four. Are they any candidates yet?

Sports By Brooks reports there are a few including VCU's Shaka Smart, Richmond's Chris Mooney and Tulsa's Doug Wojcik. I'd wonder about Georgia' Mark Fox, even if they are discussing an extension. I'd also throw in Ben Jacobson from Northern Iowa. And, as most schools do, I'll go ahead and throw in Brad Stevens' name from Butler. He'd be an awesome candidate but I'm not sure he's leaving.

Then there are plenty of others that we don't even know about yet (or never will).

One thing we have learned though is that Mizzou's coaching searches tend to be very public. Either AD Mike Alden or other sources within the organization love to talk. So one thing you can count on, unless Mizzou has changed their ways, is a very public search.

And if the last few weeks is any indication, there's also a good chance it'll blow up in Mizzou's face.

There is this out of the Charlotte Observer. It is merely speculation and a wish list. Nothing more at this time.

Wolfpack clarifies its coaching search
By J.P. Giglio

RALEIGH With a new rumor surfacing each day about the latest coach to turn down the N.C. State job, a university official made the first public comments Thursday about the search for the Wolfpack's next basketball coach.

Associate athletic director Chris Kingston sent an email to The Charlotte Observer, The (Raleigh) News & Observer and other media outlets Thursday that clarified the progress of the search.

Kingston, who is on athletic director Debbie Yow's four-person search committee, wrote that there has been "strong interest" in the job and "conversations" about filling the vacancy.

"As those conversations have occurred, coaches have naturally inquired about the potential compensation commitment of State, as would occur in any type of job search," Kingston wrote.

On Thursday, Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated and CBS reported that Memphis coach Josh Pastner had turned down an offer from N.C. State. In a brief interview Thursday, Kingston said he wasn't responding to a specific report about a coach.

On Monday, Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports reported that the N.C. State athletic director had been "given the Heisman" by several candidates.

In his email, Kingston said there was a difference between an official job offer from N.C. State and preliminary conversations.

"Responding to those compensation questions is not the equivalent of 'offering the job' to anyone," Kingston wrote. "Instead, it is simply sharing information that reflects the commitment of State to the men's basketball program."

Yow is in Houston for the Final Four. Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart, Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall and Cincinnati's Mick Cronin are believed to be among Yow's top targets.

When Sidney Lowe resigned March 15, Yow said she wanted an experienced coach who has taken a program to the NCAA tournament. Smart's VCU team plays Butler in the Final Four on Saturday, and Marshall took Winthrop to the NCAA tournament seven times in nine years before jumping to Wichita State in 2007.

Cronin took Cincinnati to the NCAA tournament this season and Murray State twice in his previous coaching stop.

dude thats real d**k. but props i believed it.
I think any rumors about him going to another school are leverage for him to get the upgrades for the uc basketball program. imo he isnt going anywhere and isnt even considering it

You may want to change it to Cronin accepts NCSU position. Rumors are flying that he reached an agreement in principle for 7 years 15mil. The source is shaky. Hold on to your hats for the counter offer.

Has not accepted, but the offer is on the table.
