The more i watch our bigs play the less confidence i have that strickland will be any different. Where is the new mbodj we were told about? They said last season was lost due to his injury and lack of conditioning... Is he plaing any better? Just a bunch of coaching bs.

Season 2012-13
GP - 17
MPG - 19.4
PPG - 5.1
FG% - 49.3
3FG% - 0.0
FT% - 58.8
APG - 0.2
RPG - 5.2
BPG - 2.3
SPG - 0.3

Season 2011-12
GP - 28
MPG - 9.7
PPG - 1.7
FG% - 37.7
3FG% - 100.0
FT% - 38.9
APG - 0.1
RPG - 2.1
BPG - 0.7
SPG - 0.1

I'd say that's definitely an improvement. No one said he was going to be All-BE or anything. He just needs to find a way to stay on the court.

He isnt playing that much better just more minutes.

Improvements in scoring, rebounds, and blocks are up more than just saying he's playing more minutes. Also FG% and FT% are way up.

Do the math. Geeze. Its the slightest of improvement for a guy mick said was a completely different player from who we saw last year.

I think he's definitely a different player than the one we saw last year. The guy last year didn't have the quickness or conditioning to be 2nd in the BE in blocks.

But not the conditioning or quickness to rebound or score. Im just asking if he is the player you anticipated after hearing mick describe him inin the preseason? Would he be the starting five on any other big east team?

Big difference-Cheikh has never been/never will be a scorer. Strickland is-the scouting reports on him say he has a wide array of post moves and can finish around the rim. He is a former 4 star recruit, while Cheikh is just a JUCO guy.

That's fair. I thought we'd see him get more putbacks and dunks in transition simply by beating his man down the floor. I expected a little more from him, yes. Having said that if you told me before the year started that he'd make half his shots, 60% from the FT line, and be 2nd in the BE in blocks I'd gladly have taken that. The shot blocking presence makes our defense that much tougher. He's got to stop picking up cheap fouls though!

Ok cool. Im notnot trying to compare the players just how to interpret the hype. I feel like i hear a lot of positives from Mick that never show up.

I don't have a problem with our bigs to tell you the truth, I could care less if they score a point in the game, as long as they defend and rebound, and considering we are the 8th best team in the country at offensive rebounding I'd have to say they are contributing on the offensive end. I don't know who here was expected anything out of our big's offensively, but thats not their role, their role is to play good defense and adjust shots when people drive into the rim, and thats what they do.

If you judge a player on how many ppg they average, then you seriously are misunderstood on how many different ways you can contribute from a basketball standpoint, the most important stat for me is the +/- system

I think Mbodj is great on defense and pretty solid on rebounding.

Offenively, with all of the offseason improvement talk, I was really hoping he'd be able to finish consistently underneath. Hit those two footers in traffic or sack up and freaking slam it or get fouled. Ibrahimi Thomas had the same issue. It's infuriating on the offensive end.

Apparently you dont understand how hard it makes it on your main scorers when the d doesn't have to worry about one to two players on the floor.

Best to take superlatives about recruits and player progression with a grain of salt. Coaches hype up their guys all the time. I still remember our former coach saying that Eugene Land was the best rebounder he's ever seen. Yikes.

Maybe he did say that about Land but I don't remember it....He did say it though about Rod Flowers, which is a even bigger yikes. Eugene was actually a hell of a player before he destroyed his knees.

You all were right. That Rutgers was a tough team LMAO. Glad we got out of that hornets nest with a win. Strap on your boots tight. That Depaul squad is up next and wow can they play ball. Expect it to go down to the wire.

I remembered BH saying that about Rod Flowers as well. Anyone else hear Cronin say that Rubles was the best player he ever recruited? He has said it a few times this year.
