Troy averaged 4.8 apg last year. That's 12th most in recorded UC history by my estimation.
Think Kenny Satterfield and you'll understand the difference.

Different team and different players with different skills sets around him. Troy takes care of the ball and runs the offense that best utilizes the skill of the players around him.
different coaching different players and different skills sets. TC runs what the coach wants.K-Sat didn't need his coach to call plays for him, or to yell at him and tell him to run.

Come on L-T. Now I agree with you that TC is in my eyes more of a combo guard then a true PG. But his attributes are much more apparent then you want to make him seem. He is a all league performer. He takes care of the ball and runs the offense the coach wants him to run. Which the Coach feels gives him the best chance to win the game. He also was victimized by having to throw the ball to Ellis, Shaq or KJ at times. He still has led the team to the Dance every year he has ran the PG and they have won over 20 games each year. While it may not be up to your standards it is not chopped liver either. Have you also taken into consideration the amount of good shots players have missed that he in fact has set up??? TC is far from the problem with this teams lack of big game performance. Can he be better, Absolutely but he still is a very good floor general that has to operate what many term a bad style. Hopefully this year with better weapons he will take the team to the next step.Waite, all you have to do is go back and look at all the posts the last three years and you'll find a gazillion complaining about us continually passing the ball around the three point line, running out the shot clock, and then launching a hurried three...or a long two. That is a reflection of the inability of the point guard to find his teammates. Troy should be thankful that he had Farad Cobb to his left or right doing nothing but launching threes. That padded his assist totals.

Lol....can't argue that he has probably lost a lot of assists throwing it to some of these poor shooters that Mick recruits. Waite, we're not arguing that he is a good player. I just wish he played a different position.
I couldn't disagree more LT. Troy hasn't had many options to feed the ball to from a scoring standpoint. The reason our offense is stagnant and we stand around the 3 point line is because coach is quite possibly the worst offensive mind in the history of college basketball. Thank God we have Troy or things could be much worse.
The only bit of criticism I'll give Troy is that I feel like at times he's too passive. When he wants to take over a game he usually does and I wish he'd take the ball to the rim a little more often. Outside of that Troy is more than capable in an otherwise brutal offensive system.
JJ has changed his body composition and got in much better shape. According to Coach he has also improved his understanding of the game. Saying Cronin should have got him into more games is not quite accurate in my mind. We were in a ton of close games and the guy who gave us the best chance of winning those games was TC. JJ had work to do and apparently over the summer he did it.When watching the scrimmage I love that outside of Brooks our whole team has range. I mean do we want our bigs shooting 3s everytime? No, but its great to know we can really spread the floor.
I think JJ will give us quality minutes as a backup to Troy. I don't know if stats will ever show it, but I think he is capable of running the point when we need a sub. I truly think Cornin would admit he should have did a better job subbing Jennifer in last year to keep his confidence up. It was hard when he would sit for a few games then come in for a minute. You can't really get in a good groove.
I was excited to see a lot of people come to watch a scrimmage. The football games wasn't until 7, so it's not like they were there just for the football game. With such a bad season in football and preseason rank of 25, we should have good attendance at every game. The weekend after Mohegan will show us a lot about our team, and will possibly bring more fans to the games.
When will we find the tipoff time for Brown? I'd imagine it will be 7, but what is the holdup?
Good points. I agree. I do think he is waaaay too passive, waaaay too often. He has shown that when he wants to, he can be better. I hope this proves to be his break-out season. I can be swayed to change my attitude about him. He has some great options around him this season, so we'll see what he does with the better help. 6 or 7 assists / game???
That would mean he's assisting on half our point and scoring the other half once we get into the conference.
It's probably a realistic number though for the first 3 weeks of the season as we plow through another round of cupcakes while the hype machine cranks up.
For me, I'll just be happy if he shoots a lot better and gets to the line and hits a high percentage of FTs. If he isn't going to get out in transition and deliver the rock, then I hope he's hitting his shots at a lot higher percentage and drawing fouls.

Great point on the fouls, let's hope the whole team does a much better job of getting to the line this season. From a FT percentage standpoint this team might have potential to shoot in the low 80's. Last year we really struggled to get to the line due to our lack of aggressive play and drives to the hoop.
This should be a HUGE point of emphasis for Mick and his staff, I'm sure it probably isn't, but it definitely should be.
The last thing they did at the scrimmage was free throw shooting drills. They went thru a bunch of players (shooting two apiece), before anyone missed a single free throw. I was impressed with what I saw from the line from pretty much all the players. Hope that wasn't a fluke.
This team is loaded with guys who can shoot a high percentage, just need to find a way to get there.
