Scrimmage

When watching the scrimmage I love that outside of Brooks our whole team has range. I mean do we want our bigs shooting 3s everytime? No, but its great to know we can really spread the floor.

I think JJ will give us quality minutes as a backup to Troy. I don't know if stats will ever show it, but I think he is capable of running the point when we need a sub. I truly think Cornin would admit he should have did a better job subbing Jennifer in last year to keep his confidence up. It was hard when he would sit for a few games then come in for a minute. You can't really get in a good groove.

I was excited to see a lot of people come to watch a scrimmage. The football games wasn't until 7, so it's not like they were there just for the football game. With such a bad season in football and preseason rank of 25, we should have good attendance at every game. The weekend after Mohegan will show us a lot about our team, and will possibly bring more fans to the games.

When will we find the tipoff time for Brown? I'd imagine it will be 7, but what is the holdup ? After hearing how good Brooks looks, can not wait to see Eliel Nsosemer.

I agree with AZ. Heck, I am hyped up for our exhibition game next Tuesday. I'll be treating it like a regular game in terms off pregaming etc since I have Wednesday off work hahaha.

You could always pretend to be an employee at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and sneak in to watch the Indiana State scrimmage on Friday.

I'm not saying at the end of games, I'm just saying 6 or 7 minutes throughout the games. Not sitting the whole time. Cronin last year stated a few comments about Jennifer in different interviews that make believe my statement is true. Oh well. Just glad he can help this year.
It all has to be done within the context of the game. Situation, personnel, foul situation, score etc.... saying he should have worked him in for 6 or 7 minutes is not as easy as it sounds.

When JJ's day comes, I want you all to acknowledge where you heard it first. I was on a desert island last year...all alone, and you all had abandoned ship and relegated him to nothing more than a bit player who would compete with Zack Tobler for playing time for the rest of his career. He is going to be good...mark it down!
I will be more then happy to give you credit.

He's been over-recruited with Broome and maybe Carr. It doesn't seem like the bald guys feel the same. We'll see if he gets his chance.

I don't know NTS. Seems the game is going more to a perimeter game these days. Having two capable ball handlers on the floor has had some success. UCONN did it and in the Satterfield/Logan days we had a nice run. Mick has said he likes having two guys capable of having the rock in their hand.

If jenifer doesn't play well and earn playing time this season, my guess is that he will transfer.

I like jenifer, but I like broome better. If Broome plays as well as people think he can, he gets 30+ Min a game and jenifer is a career 10 mins game max guy. He transfers to a small school before that happens.

The Carr recruitment to me seems as if he was a Pitt lean and wanted to explore options and a teammate said check out UC, not a clear lets over recruit JJ.

IMO MC is seeing a formula from the 15-16 Villanova team that had one true big man and beat a 1,2,3 seed to get to the NC then beat another #1 seed. Villanova's run included two of the ten most offensively efficient games in the analytics era (2002–present), beating Miami and Oklahoma by scoring 1.56 and 1.51 points per possession in the Sweet Sixteen and Final Four, respectively.

Villanova couldn't replicate those numbers if they played against the Washington Generals. It was an absolutely incredible stretch of shooting from their perimeter guys. Remember, they got blown out by Oklahoma on a neutral floor in December.

Want to make a deep run? You better have multiple top 100 recruits and NBA players on your roster...or have a once in a lifetime shooting performance.

Mick Cronin is no Jay Wright. It's one thing to have that formula, it's another thing to have the talent in terms of players and coaching aptitude. Mick has neither.

Different team and different players with different skills sets around him. Troy takes care of the ball and runs the offense that best utilizes the skill of the players around him.
Gotta disagree with you here, Waite. A **true** point guard can make the players around him much better.

ZCat I don't disagree with that. All I'm saying is comparing those two players is not apples and oranges. I actually agree with L-T that TC is better suited as a combo guard then a true PG. Mick hasn't been able to recruit someone to push him to the 2 spot. Was hoping JJ could be that guy but to this point he hasn't been.

Gotcha. We need some easy baskets. Fast break points and some nice dimes would help that.

Think Kenny Satterfield and you'll understand the difference.

I liked Satterfield a lot, but you seem to think Satterfield was a far better point guard than Caupain. Have to disagree. Stats back it up, too.

Caupain: 40% FG, 35% 3pt, 79% FT, 2.1 AST:TO ratio, 2.1 fouls per 40 min
Satterfield: 40% FG, 32% 3pt, 78% FT, 1.6 AST:TO ratio, 3.1 fouls per 40 min

Really the only thing Satterfield had on Caupain was steals (1.8 per 40 min to 1.5 per 40 min).

I'd have loved to see what Satterfield would've been like if he had stayed at UC all 4 years, but Caupain has been, in my opinion, a better point guard, and overall basketball player at UC than Satterfield. While Satt had the assists on Caupain, Troy overall took care of the ball better. You'll see that in the AST:TO ratio above.
