Temple: Round 2

Help Support BearcatTalk:

Watching WVU, announcer said Devin Williams grew up a Bearcat fan and wanted to play for Huggins. Does any kid in Cincinnati feel the same way about us anymore? Do kids dream of playing for Mick?

I heard the same thing NTS. Made me physically sick.

I'm as pissed as the next guy with how things are going, but I know complaining on a message board will make 0 difference. Only thing I do know is I hope to God we start playing better and soon, it's tough to watch.

Not really. Pissing and moaning on a message board creates the dialogue that then gets used at the water coolers, then on sports radio....sure it doesn't have a direct effect but it can effect the way the team and coach are talked about in public. And that can lead to change over time.

And it's therapeutic!

I get the logic there but there are 38 fans viewing this site after a terrible, terrible loss. We make little to no difference, but I think we can agree this is the most frustrating season in recent memory.

My agenda is to support these guys and enjoy being a fan...you were fine with losing early as a top 1 or 2 seed year after year under huggs. Mick doesn't get that pass, I understand that. But I'm still gonna enjoy being a fan as "un-die hard" as that is

Let's be clear. Those #1 and #2 seeds were earned at the altar of effort and sweat...and little else at times. The only team I felt truly underachieved was the '97 team. Those other teams came as close to maxing out their potential as they possibly could - either because they had individual players that were driven to excel (Kenyon, Max, Hicks, Logan, Brannen, etc) or they collectively bought into their Coach's philosophy and tenacity and personified it on the court.

My problem with Mick is this: He's not adapting/changing. He adapted a style of ball suited for less talented players to survive in the Big East because he had to. But he isn't changing with the players he recruits. I could go up and down this roster and name maybe one player with a game suited to half-court, plodding offense (DeBerry) and yet we've devolved back to playing like Danny Fortson or Yancy Gates is calling for the ball in the post.

We have a full team of open court gazelles being asked to play wheelchair basketball.

Mick's answer to Caupain's 2 early fouls? To yank JJ after a couple mistakes and go without a point guard for 15 minutes!!! Brilliant!

If you watch WVa at all, you see a team filled with guys that play a ferocious, aggressive brand of basketball - making mistakes, but making them without fear. Confident and tenacious. Our guys play like their heads might explode if they make the slightest mistake. But hey, I'm sure Justin Jenifer's confidence didn't take a hit at all today. Next time he plays I'm guessing he will be scared crapless to take a damn dribble.

I'm not even saying Mick is a bad coach. I'm saying he's doing a poor job coaching this team. And given the blood and treasure I've devoted to this program over the past 27 years, I have the right to call a spade a spade. What we're witnessing is HORRIBLE.

If you think that makes me a bad fan, so be it. I'm not living and dying with this team for anyone's approval.

LT God bless you for thinking anyone gives 2 shits what we think. And it's not that you saw anything "first", it's that you didn't like the hire from the start.

Sigh. What am I going to do besides saddle up again and hope this group of guys plays whatever style they're going to play to the max of their abilities and wins some more games. Not suddenly going to change the name on my degree or the program I root for.

That was another mess to end the game. I think it's time to try Cobb with the ball to make something happen. The alternative is the definition of insanity!

Not good coaching. We needed to feed Clark more. He racked up 11 assists in the two previous games. He will either score or make a good pass.

Frustrating as hell!

Edit
..8 assists

I root for the kids not the coach. Something I've said about UC football since Tubby boy was hired. Never thought I'd feel the same way about the basketball program.

Cronin's stubborn ways killed this team. He's trying so hard to recapture the SK year. He does a TERRIBLE job adjusting to his personnel. Someone said it earlier, but our roster is not built to be the slowest team in America. Expecting to suddenly execute and become efficient is a pipe dream. It isn't happening. Putting 1 guy ahead of the team on this roster is a joke imo. There is not a big talent gap on our roster 1-10. Use the depth and play a free style. Our players were so much happier at the beginning of the year. You can hear it in the press conferences. "Style of play" was such a great buzz term we had going for us. Cronin killed it. And we're 6-6 in our last 12 games. That should NEVER happen at Cincinnati.

That is 100% a lie. But that's typical of a group on here who've done it non-stop for years.

Hopefuly I won't see the patented toss it around, don't consider a shot until less than 10 seconds then throw up a rushed shot attack. It ok to attempt an open shot or attack the rim with 10+ seconds on the clock isn't it ?
GO BEARCATS !
Just as I predicted.
Painful to watch teams like X and UD actually running offense.......sigh*

Hearing eggzavier fans on the radio talk about UC is maddening. so smug. We put ourselves in this position.
