The time when Calipari OWNED Mick

I don't have a problem with it either if he keeps that stuff in the locker room. Mick is a good coach but has a bad perception as a whiner amongst coaches. He did the same thing with Calhoun at UConn w/ Kemba Walker. It takes a certain personality to be an elite coach and I don't think Mick has it in him...

I think some stuff should be left to the fans to "whine" about. Like Rothstein's Preseason All-AAC team. So I can see what you're saying about that kind of thing. But I think it is quite a leap to say that he can't be a winner bc of things like that. Mick was awfully young when he took over. I think he has grown a lot and will continue to do so. The example of SK for POY...I'd chalk that up to a coach having his best year ever and not wanting to be the only guy recognized for it.

I think (I don't know) that Mick will have a more hands off in-game approach from here on out. I think the year off helped him realize that our players are capable. Now that we've established we can make the tournament under pretty much any circumstance, and we have a great team coming back (which looks like it can have sustained success for years to come), I think we will continue to evolve into a more confident/act like you've been there before type program.

Imagine if you had a world class douchebag like Calipari as your coach? KY fans don't really have much choice other than to act like he's really cool or something...lol! Sometimes you just have to embrace your coach as they are and Mick is definitely outspoken and that isn't changing.

I am guessing many people on this forum (NTS included) have never been managers at their jobs or at least not managers at a level where failure to deliver on your goals and expectations means people are losing their jobs. If you have, I'm sure you know that different people and different teams of people respond differently to praise and criticism. It is the manager's job to get everyone pulling in the same direction and giving their all. I trust that Mick has the pulse of his team and knows that publicly backing them will get the most out of them. I guarantee you Mick could care less if a fan thinks he is whiny about it. All he cares about is the results on the court.

Certain people respond better to public praise than private praise (or vice versa). The same is true of constructive criticism. You have to know your team as a manager so you push the right buttons and earn their trust. If you think any successful D-1 college coach doesn't understand what they are doing every time they open your mouth, you're fooling yourself.

First off this nobody knows for sure who this story is about for sure. It could be about Anthony Davis, Ulis or Teague. From what I have read the Teague and Mick argument is valid but the time frame does not match as it stated this happened 2-3 years ago.

Second, people are acting like Mick is the only coach who complains or backs up his players. Did our old coach complain directly at fans? Did our old coach do the same thing and campaign for Steve Logan to get player of year? I hear Pitino complain every year about things, Huggins complained about referees when the hand checking rules were in effect. Did Bob Knight ever complain? Is he an elite coach?

Bottom line, Mick is not the first coach to complain about Cal ifff the story is about him, and he is definitely not the only coach to complain about other coaches. He is also not the only coach to stick up for his team and wont be the last.

We know that none of this is true. It's all heresay, period. It's what Kentucky fans want us all to believe, that we are in fact inferior to the UK crowd. I can say one thing, in terms of supporting ones team, we are way behind UK. After going to the UC/UK game in Louisville last spring in the NCAA tourney, 95% of the fans in the sold out arena were UK fans. The two cities, Lexington and Cincinnati are similar distances from Louisville. UC had a VERY poor showing in terms of fan support. Which school would you go to as an 18 years old after seeing that last year? Cal has to do next to nothing with that support. By the way, it was worth the drive and price to see UK fans woried halfway the second half of that game. A number of UK fans that I know were worried to death about the UC/UK game. If we had Mick for that game and during the season, we may have won. Another point is for as great a job of last years coaching that Larry Davis did, there is a reason he's an assistant coach.

Cronin said it wasn't him on Twitter. Also said he loves a good confrontation and is trying to schedule a game with UK.

Well said. Even by off season standards this is a non-story (of which Mick has denied).

I was about to say, is there any confirmation that the coach in question was Mick?

I'm not sure if anyone cares, or has even noticed, but I tend to stay away from Bearcat Talk now-a-days despite this board serving as my original entrance into the Bearcat Nation fan base. The reason why I keep my distance pertains directly to the countless number of threads that diverge into ad hominem attacks against other users. NTS, and all those that address his childish antics, have begun to drive me away from this domain and I am sure that I am not the only one.

You may not care for my input and I certainly can't blame you if that is the case. But these pissing matches need to end if any growth is to be experienced. Either boot NTS or ignore him. He's clearly the main instigator for most of these fights and his poison has now spread to other posters. Ultimately, things like this could end up ruining what was once a fine site.

I understand that there should be room for criticism. And often times, that anger can become personal. But this is absurd.

True story. Unfortunately, I must admit that I entertain his bs with what I perceive as quippy retort. Never again. ;)

So you're saying only 5% of the fans there had a complete set of teeth?

Yes, good stuff. Kentucky jokes and most importantly about lack of teeth always good to me. Those Kentucky fans may have had less teeth, but had more money than Cincinnati fans. I paid about 400 for two tickets for two sets of games. Not money most UC fans were willing to spend. The Cincinnati section given to the team by the NCAA was sold out. I tried to get tickets through the university and tickets were not available. But general public tickets were available and gobbled up by UK fans. At the UK/UC game, we were one of three sets of fans from UC in one section. Nearly the entire YUM center was blue. Anybody else reading this that went, speak out

Careful what you wish for. If they ban him here he'll likely end up over with you on Banter.

This thread is useless. Isn't using a blog as a source kind of like using Wikipedia as a reference?

I was there and yes, the Cincinnati crowd was very sparse. With that said the way tickets worked Kentucky fans were 99% sure they were going to end up playing in Louisville as it was fairly evident they would be the top seed and line-up to the closest site. So UK fans could buy tickets well in advance of the announcements. Out of curiosity I checked available tickets the day before the brackets were announced just to see availability and price points in case we did end up going there. There were maybe 100 tickets not sold of the 20,000 or so that arena holds. So of course it was going to be a sea of blue and a good number of those weren't going to sell their tickets.

Now what I did notice in that sea of blue were pretty much all full sets of teeth, very few people I would consider classless, many very knowledgeable fans and even more very passionate fans. That last quality I don't notice at UC games and I go to every football and basketball game. I wish our fans had even half the passion of their fanbase.

It's their state only real team in all sports. Could you imagine fan base we would have it we were only competing ohio state football for top team in state. Ohio has 5pro teams and three top 40 college basketball programs and ohio state football still has bigger fan base than the KY fan base.

Plus the Cincinnati has so much more going for it compared to Lexington or Louisville. We have the Aronoff Center and the Music Hall.

I know it sounds neat to have all these crazy fans but frankly I'm okay with not being as nuts as some of the other fan bases. UK, UT, OSU, those fans plan their lives around games, whether its weddings, kids birthdays, etc. Personally I think that's sad. I love UC and consider myself a huge fan but I will not ever plan my personal life around their events.
