Went to game, here are my thoughts
UC played maybe the best offensive game of this year, our defense when teams spread us out is our Achilles heel. Tulsa shot the ball from the 3 like no team I have witnessed, maybe besides Marshall last year. Cane is far and ahead better than Jennifer. If Jennifer can stay consistent from long range, take care of ball and hound the other teams point guard, then that's all we need him to do as long as cane plays more. Cane is a spark plugs and when he decides to turn it in, look out he is a stud, however he does get lost in defense sometimes and Gamble's a lot in steals, he needs to definitely get more minutes at the point. Gary stepped it up in second half and we road him for a ten minute stretch. When Kyle gets the ball in the post he is unstoppable, in defense however he gets lost and causes us to give up rebounds and points. Jacob had a good game, he is really a smooth player. We need cane and Cumberland to draw and dish to get him shots. He is way better at being a jump shooter than her is at creating his own shot. He however creates very well for others because of the attention the defense gives him. Cumberland might have played the best game ever, this guy is going to be an absolute stud from here on out. He is very good at creating his shot and shots for others. Wouldn't mind him taking the point duties from Jacob in situations. The player of game besides the obvious is Scott. He showed that elite athleticism snagging rebounds out of his area. He is another guy I'm excited about next year, but we need him desperately on the boards this year. Brooke's moves well in defense but couldn't throw the ball in the ocean if he tried. Ellie didn't get much playing time but you can see he will be the prototypical bearcat big man. And last but not least, the refs again were absolutely abysmal. Go Bearcats.....

Nice post!

+/- can be a deceiving stat in games where teams are red hot shooting
Yes.. but this isn't just one game. The season gap is pretty large. It also jives with pretty much everyone's eye test who isn't named Mick. Until Mick learns to live with Cane's screw ups and let him play through it, we're going to have a limited ceiling.

And to be frank, Jenifer's +/- should be more inflated than anyone else on the team given he starts virtually every game and second half, which means he gets to play most of his minutes with the other 4 best players.

6 points and 5 assists is not good for the 11th ranked teams starting point guard against a mediocre team.

This is ridiculous.

Cane and Jenifer were really good today.

Jenifer had an offensive rating of 190
Cane had 181.

That’s great from both.

Stop pitting out players against each other. Both played great

2nd half cane lost his guy and gave up an open 3. came down and hit a 3 of his own. got benched for it. tulsa goes on an immediate 6-0 run while we play with no PG to cut it to 6. cane comes back in.

i really wonder if mick thinks pulling him like that helps the team or player in any way. especially when you send them right back in cause the team needs them.

absolutely can. thats why i posted the conference totals in a response to his post.

But I’m not debating the yearly plus minus.

I was saying Jenifer played well tonight and that tonight’s plus minus didn’t mean he played bad.

Both played great and if we’re going to go far, both will need to conintue to play well

All cane should have to do is play hard on ball defense, don't try to gamble on steals and there is no reason he can't play more minutes then Jennifer, in a small way I understand we have to have scoring off bench, but we are better offensively by far with him in game. Kyle on the other hand is a different story, he just will not box out. If he just boxed out every time he wouldn't get subbed out as much. When your at the games and not watching from tv, you understand why Cronin pulls Washington out, it's been very evident that he just doesn't do the little things needed. Cane coming out is more a head scratcher to me. All he has to do is not gamble on defense and not throw lazy passes and his minutes will move up. If Scott continues to rebound like he has been then it's easy for Cronin to pull Kyle.

Anyone watch this? Why did mick jump down Bergs throat for his question about the defense? Weird

He had already addressed it in his opening comments and then he literally 1 question later asked him to pretty much repeat himself, I don’t have a problem with it

the thing is every player makes a lazy pass or a mistake on defense. it happens to them all. they are humans, not robots.

cumberland was amazing today, he still had 3 turnovers. he still missed a rotation a gave up a layup when he got caught ball watching. it happens. im not saying its not a big deal, 3 turnovers is never good, giving up free layups is never good, but its not the end of the world either.

i just wish everybody was allowed to play through their mistakes. i think we'd be better off for it.

I didn’t really have a problem with it, just seemed odd considering he talks about how bad the defense is every game, then doesn’t like when someone else mentions it

Oh, I don’t know how I missed that part.

actually not really. mick was talking about we had to play with no center today and scott did a great job of it. we struggled before we went to that lineup.

the question asked was if there was anything specific hes seen over and over again for why the defense has struggled the last 4 games.

mick jumped on him.

it really wasn't a bad or odd question...

I agree they should be allowed to play through mistakes, as you said Cumberland and Evans gets these chances. I just don't think mick trusts cane on defensive end. However Kyle is a different story, he has lapses about every play. But the less we turn it over, the better the chance of winning.

Did you listen to the very first thing he said in the video about defense and finding situational defense to stop tulsa
