I think we got got jobbed by the refs in this one. They called 6 quick fouls on us in the second half and none on Iowa State. We played through that and built up a lead, but our defense was limited with foul trouble. We had to play off the players while they attacked on defense and that allowed them back into the game. I saw a number of times on rebounds our players having one hand up and one being held from behind, especially in the first half.
Had to get that off my chest.
Good win last night. Iowa State is a good team and that will be a good win by season's end. I'd love to see Iowa State take down UNLV tonight. SK was a beast. 16-16 from the foul line. Talk about stepping up. I thought Cash played well, his outside shot wasn't falling and I liked that he didn't keep throwing up threes. He put the ball on the floor and scored within the arc when the opportunity presented itself. Parker did not show up last night. He got two quick (and pretty obvious) fouls on him in the first half and picked up a third immediately in the second half. I think the offense would've looked a little better had Parker been able to stay in there and even Mbodj. With that said, Guyn hit a couple nice shots and Sanders played well and hit two big threes. This offense will go far when Cash, Killa and Parker are all on the floor doing their thing, but when a player goes down with foul trouble or whatever we need others to step up. Last night a few players did and we managed to pull out a win.
The defense left a little to be desired last night, but some of that can be attributed to foul trouble. Iowa State made us pay with some threes, but I'll take my chances with a team beating us from shooting outside. Parker did essentially nothing being on the bench and he is one of our better defenders and Mbodj needs to learn how to play with fouls. He seemed to change his aggressiveness after picking up fouls. We got beat on some screens and back door cuts and such but that can be looked at on film and improved upon.
