UC vs. UConn Round 3

It's not just the loss last night......it's the way they narrowly escaped UCF and the fact that they are so limited on offense (as is pointed out by every analyst during every game). I hope I'm wrong, but my gut tells me otherwise. By the way, you don't have to be a fucking dick when you respond.

I appologize if I offended you, but you asked for it by your consdescending reponse to my initial post. There was no reason to end your post with a one word sentence 'Actually.' That was a 'fucking dick' way to end your post, and my response was in kind.

Every time UC is close to breaking through and getting more media attention and credibility they lose. It happened in football in 2 BCS games, against Louisville on Senior Night, North Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, etc and in basketball against UConn in the second round in '11, Ohio State, Louisville in BE Final, Louisville at home, UConn last night, etc...

It is really frustrating that the athletic program cannot take that next step from pretty good to nationally respected. Another chance starting next week...

Ditto! I was saying the same thing to my UConn homer roommate last night, who by the way actually thought they should have called the net grab. Anyway, I think next year they get the "talented, but young and not mature enough" scouting report. The following year, if everyone stays could be quite a sight IMO.

I apologize if the word "actually" offended you. The truth of the matter is that I'm new to the site and accidentally hit the "preview post" button instead of "submit reply". I attempted to delete my entire post but inadvertently left the word "actually" at the end. I'm still trying to figure out how that was offensive to anyone but apparently some people are more sensitive than others (agree to disagree I guess).

I don't think there will be anybody on this team ready for the NBA draft after next season, so we should be able to hang on to everyone outside of Guyn and Sanders.

I've felt the exact frustration and sadly it seems to always come down to a lack of intensity and mental preparedness for the gravity of the situation they are in.

I really wasn't upset with the loss but more the way we lost. I really hate conference tourneys. They are fun for the fans I suppose. Basically they just end up as a means for all but one team in your league to take a loss right before the tourney. And while losing in your conference tourney doesn't usually hurt your seeding projections, winning does, so not winning certainly must. I think we're a four seed, had we won last night I think we were a 3 assuming we didn't get blown out by Louisville in final. Had we won it all I think we might have been a 2 but definitely a 3. I really wish NCAA would eliminate conference tourneys. Play everyone in your league twice and let that decide your fate for the big dance. In any conference I think it's more impressive to win your regular season than play well for three days where maybe you can win your conference tourney without having to play the best team.

You make a good point, but you have to remember what the spirit of the conference tournament is. Basically, every team in division I still theoretically has a shot to win the national title -- except for the Ivy League schools and independents, I believe. It is part of what makes March Madness so great -- and it starts with the conference tournaments, where an 8-20 team COULD, in theory, win their conference tournament, make the NCAA tournament, and win it all. It will probably never happen, but it's a lot of fun to watch.

I get that and agree. I guess my point is more from the perspective of good teams that have nothing to gain from conference tourneys other than to have pride in winning. Conference tourneys at one point were the sole way to make into the NCAA tournament as there really weren't any at large teams I believe. With an expanded field it doesn't matter for the top 30-35 teams. I really think conference tourneys serve no purpose anymore other than a means to make money for the conference and for one team to get bragging rights. And yeah it's really fun for fans to have three or four nights of basketball to watch. Conference tourneys allow for the random Georgia team of a few years ago to make the dance when they wouldn't normally and for teams in small conferences to take the slot for their conference away from a team that spent the previous three months proving it was the best team in the league. And yeah they can help and hurt bubble teams get their chance for an 11 seed.

Same Jeff. I am concerned that UC hasn't really played well against a good team for a long time. Seems like they may have peaked too early. Down to 25 in the KenPom.

I figured our drop in the KenPom rankings had to do with our offensive woes in games against UConn, Louisville, and SMU, but that's not the case. We have actually dropped because our defense has really slipped lately. We spent most of the year in the 4-6 range of AdjD efficiency (87-89 PPP). We are now up to 9th at 91.4 PPP. That is quite a slide when you don't have much margin for error. Even last night wasn't a great defensive effort. Sure, the 58 points look good, but that had more to do with the limited number of possessions. Allowing 52.4 eFG% and 105.1 PPP to UConn are not good defensive numbers for this group.

We actually have near identical offensive numbers to three teams ranked in the top 18 (VCU, San Diego St, and Ohio St), but they are getting it done better on the defensive end. I'd agree with everyone that we need better offensive efficiency to make it to the second weekend, but we aren't getting out of the first weekend if the defense doesn't pick up the intensity.

You are correct. The actual ranking in efficiency on both offense and defense hasn't changed a whole lot in the past few months. There is very little difference between teams, so a drop in efficiency by 0.3-0.4 causes you to drop several spots. UC has always been between 89.5 and 91.5 on defense. The offense has fluctuated from around 106.5 to 109.8.
