UCF Round 2

Mick has done a very good job of bringing this team along. Remember guys, they had basically no practice time in January with all those games. They have gotten the chance to work on the offense with that week off, and UC gets another week break after Louisville.

Well that was awesome! I still think the refs are a joke. I can't wait for Saturday. UL players are already running their mouths saying they know how to beat us now, it was embarrassing for them that they lost to us. Bring it tards!

Lawrence missed the 2 dunks but grabbed 5 boards 2 blocks and 2 steals.

Yeah least he played valuable minutes. I really hope he is learning from JJ this year. He is not a jump shooter. He needs to bulk up and learn to play around the rim. In due time I suppose!

I thought Seth Greenberg said it best during the UConn game. He compared Lawrence to a kid with too many toys on Christmas morning; he doesn't know what to play with, but he's got everything. Like you said he's going to get stronger and the game will eventually slow down for him. It's going to be fun to watch when that happens.

Very good effort tonight. Jumped on them early and didn't let them get any closer than 17. Nice to see Sanders play well again. I really like KJ's all-around game.

Hahaha thats a great comparison! Thats so true. I agree about KJ too. He seems really tough and I think he will be a big player for us in the future. Oddly, I think he makes scoring easy a lot of the times.

Kind of an obscure pattern I noticed: SK hit 50% on all his shots. 8/16 FGs, 2/4 2PT, 6/12 3PT, 1/2 FT. Just thought it was funny. He, as always, looked great tonight.

Caupain gets my award for silent assassin tonight. 2/2 FG, 1/1 3PT, 6 ast, 0 TO.

Jackson seemed a bit crazy tonight lol. Like out of control, mostly just on offense. Must've been excited to be back in his home state.

Great efforts by Sanders and Thomas. Shaq needs to be careful he doesn't dribble the ball too much though. He can get pretty out of control. He's great when he only needs to take a couple dribbles during a drive.

Overall, I'm very pleased. Thought the -6.5 line was a bit low, so I bet a little money they'd cover it, and frankly I was never worried about it.

I'm pretty sure Caupain actually had 9 assists. Jackson's layup at 13:03 in the first half went down as unassisted, but it wasn't. Sanders' layup at 12:10 was credited as an assist to SK, but that was Caupain. Then on Caupain's offensive rebound where he passed it to Shaq before coming down with the ball for a lay in, that went down as an unassisted bucket.

The first 2 are in the game highlights here

It was fun to be at a game finally. Crowd was horrible...not just noise (understandable) but turnout. I thought it was going to be close to a sellout.

SK was killing it as usual but I thought we got a really nice game from the frosh for the first time in a while. Nice to see them get good minutes heading into UL.

We had our 2nd lowest TO game tonight (6) following our lowest against Houston (4). We had almost 3:1 ASS to TO ratio. Add in steals and blocks? 6:1. That's unheard of. We shot nearly 50%. We played some great D. That's a nice recipe for success.

I was afraid we weren't going to shoot well but we did. I had some nice box seats and some of the nicest fans sitting next to us. I had my colors on and never heard a sly remark. Very classy hospitable people. We were sitting a few boxes away from O'Leary (football coach) and Marcus Jordan (Mike's son) was there as well.

Great game for us...I was hoping we weren't looking past them and we obviously didn't.

Sorry, but UCF flat out sucks. Put our performance tonight in the next 3 games, and we become UCF. One thing we did well was wait for and take open shots (mostly). I was glad to see the Frosh get time AND points. They really needed some minutes, Too bad UCF had no D for them to play against. Passing was good, rebounding was OK, but a lot of volleyball out there. Sykes is only 6'6" but pulls down 10 boards. How does that happen? McBride used his body well if only in slow motion. We were outrebounded ?!
Now for my real beef. We're up 25+ with over 3 minutes to go and the illustrious coach elects to sit his poor walk-ons. They're not "owed" anything, but they bust their ass for the good of the team in EVERY practice, and Cronin should acknowledge that by at least getting them in a blowout like this. They have one more chance for their minute of fame before the AAC Tournament - assuming we blowout Rutgers like we did UCF. It was the same with Epp last year. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that a crumb is like prime rib to those 2 guys. Sorry all you Cronin lovers/apologists, but that is just wrong! One or two f@#$%g minutes. I can't wait to see all of you defend him on this point.
He's brought the team a long way, and vastly improved his coaching from the beginning of the year, but this is a fail!!

Glad you had a good time and wore your colors. The stands looked 1/2 empty form the TV vantage point. Sorry they didn't score 100 for you. They could have if they wanted to.

I was impressed with TC's drive to the basket playing through contact and making the layup early to midway into the first half. If he and GG can give the Cats 10-15 points combined they will be tough to beat. As someone mentioned 2 straight games where ST was aggressive was great to see. I hope he doesn't settle for long jumpers. When he attacks the basket or does that pull up jumper in the lane he's tough to stop. Big minutes for the freshman and rest for the seniors is a luxury this time of year - I'm happy the were able to that tonight.

This is a piece for The Onion, right?

That was one of the most dominate 40 minutes of the season. We jumped 7 spots in the Kenpom ratings off of that performance. Only someone with an ax to grind could see something different.

I'm sure if you asked Zack Tobler and Derek Cox they'd say they were more than happy to see Big Dave and KJ get enough playing time to total 10 points because they don't get nearly enough playing time as healthy scholarship players. I have a feeling that if Mick was the type of coach that often called upon the walk-ons you'd be complaining that Mick was rubbing it in and recruiting would suffer because he won't even play his guys in garbage time.

I guess it's not easy to find something to complain about when the team is 24-3 and ranked 7th in the country.

I'd much rather the "real" bench, who will actually be needed down the stretch, get minutes and in game experience. Dave, KJ, Lawrence, and TC need all the minutes they can get, regardless of score or situation in game. I appreciate everything Tobler and Cox bring to the team, but you need to be realistic.

sorry to disappoint you. We are 13-1 in league with the biggest game of the season coming up on Saturday. Who the coach plays and when is his decision. Go Cats beat Louisvile!

Cronin lover/apologist must be a synonym for intelligent people. Its time to get the bench as many minutes as possible. We are a week and a half away from March. You have to keep everyone sharp because your bench is going to have to contribute if you want to make a deep run. However good for Cronin. He has done such a good job that he has his detractors resorting to his unfair treatment to the walk ons. Haha. Wow. Anyways dominant performance from the guys. Were very focused. Now its time to turn up the heat. 3 big games that can solidify a really high seed and get us a conference championship. Like Cronin said last night after the game, we have accomplished a lot so far but the real season starts now. Lets hit our peak and go on a run baby!
