That game belongs to Gary Clark. He gave all out effort on both ends of the floor and attacked and was as aggressive as you'll ever see him on offense. Ugly game, but we knew that going in. I don't understand why we play so nervous and defeated against them, but I'll save any griping. Take the win and get out of Dodge. Glad the refs decided to show up at halftime. They were brutal that first half letting UCF get away with just about everything. How bad is UCF? 38 points with a rowdy home crowd and the refs letting you get away with murder half the game. And a 7'6 guy that should see the ball every possession....seriously how do you not try to run a pick and roll or just post him low and lob the ball to him any opportunity you get?

I liked that we had a strategy against the zone. It didn’t always work but we didn’t look clueless.

Good sign

This reminds me of the game we played in 92 against UAB. I think the halftime score was 14-12.
I think we won 40-39. Was that when NVE threw a pass to Eric Martin whom made a short shot at the buzzer, and did not break his stride and ran straight into the locker room. So much fun to be there for those games.

I can't tell you how many times the past few years I have said "if you told me this or that would happen...we won't win the game" only for us to find a way.

This time we just dug really f-ing deep on D. I mean UCF played excellent D but we turned it up as the game went on and played even better. Holy crap can we play D. We are holding conference opponents to 50 pt avg.

Oh...and Gary Clark is a grown ass man!!

Ugly, but any win is beautiful. Something about that place freaks them out. Even open shots looked tentative. Clark was a monster.

this game was a prime example of why defensive 3 seconds is such a good concept. stupid game against a stupid team and we survived with a final margin that looks fine despite the low score. flush this shit down the memory toilet and move on.

Although I can't be sure, I believe I was at Murphy's Pub for that one. Hard to believe that was over 25 years ago!!

I don't think UCF has the horses to challenge for an NCAA bid this year but hopefully they're able to pick it up with Taylor back, win 10-11 conference games, and compete in the NIT again. They've had it rough with injuries.

They'll return a lot next season however.

Although very difficult to watch in the early going at the end of the day I love this game because it was such a team effort. The stars were Evans, Broom, Washington, Cumberland and Clark. I almost left Washington off that list but then remembered how he battled in the paint at the end. On a day when Evans couldn’t shoot he made up for it in blocking shots and rebounding. Cumberland key threes. Cane drove the lane and kicked and Gary was Gary. Oh yeah and big hon ment to Tre Scott. I don’t know how good at basketball this group is but they may be the best TEAM in the NCAA.

Not pretty but a workman like win. Gary was a beast. While its obvious Fall affects the shots of everyone in the paint. We still challenged and on enough occasions won. We had 6 blocks as a team and Fall had 1 on the night. Great stat. We didn't allow his presence to make us one dimensional. We didn't shoot the ball well or draw many fouls but we guarded and made them guard the whole floor which opened enough cracks for us to win the game. We also pushed the pace enough that he had to sit for rest on a few occasions.

I'll admit, I was beyond aggravated that we started so slow again. However, I cannot give enough praise that we continued to play basketball for 40 minutes. Even though the shots weren't falling the first half we didn't hang our heads. We continued to play our game and compete allowing us to win the game. Kudos for the guys effort. I thought Moore did a nice job providing energy in the first half and of course Clark was a man. Keep it up fellas!

For those keeping track Cane played 21 minutes and JJ had 14. Team had 9 TO's. Cane didn't shoot well but had 5 Ast to 1 TO. JJ had 1 Ast and 0 TO's. I believe the first time he subbed for him was about 2 minutes into first half. Clark, Evans and Cumberland all played over 30. Evans played 38 minutes and ran PG for a few of them.

Couple of things stood out for me. While Evans didn't shoot well he had two plays that really helped change the game.

1. On a UCF fast break attempt he hustled back and stole the pass right in front of the rim

2. His running down and blocking the shot from behind and then feeding Cane for a wide open 3 that went down with the score tied at 30 all. Game changer!!

I’m convinced UCF shrinks the rims. The way that cane 3 ball rattled In looked like those basketball games at kings island where the ball barely fits in the rim.

I though cane played great.

Also haven’t made my way through the entire back end of this thread but cane cracked his teeth and needed stitches after the game

LOL!!! Yea the rims seem a bit tight. JJ had a 3 ball look to be half way down and rim out. I thought like Evans he didn't shoot well but Cane affected the game positively in other ways. 5 dimes and 1 TO. He was very active defensively. His only TO was under our basket on a O/B play and he threw it right to a opposing player. I almost threw the remote at the TV.

I wasn't able to watch the game but just looking at the stats it seemed like a typical game against them. Our offense against good defensive teams continues to worry me going into March. Yes, UCF is a good defensive team but we were the 4th lowest scoring team against them this year. That's not good. We have to be better when we go against teams with good offense and defense if we want to get where we're going.

Yeah he smacked the hell out of his mouth on the ground when he got that deflection and got tripped going for the steal.

Like you I had hoped we would have been a bit better offensively but this wasn't just a good defense we were facing but a top 5 defense. They did their beast to ugly up the game but in the end our talent and resolve on defense paid off with enough offense to overcome their game. On their floor I might add. League road wins are never easy.
