Patrick Ewing played with the best players ever. Also an assistant at the highest level. He’s terrible. Penny isn’t exactly doing great. Just because you play with good players has nothing to do with coaching.
Aaron McKie at Temple also appears to have an uphill battle ahead of him.
On the contrary, Juwan Howard is doing well at Michigan and currently has the #1 overall recruiting class for 2021.
Chris Mullin had St. John's on the up-and-up with top 50 recruiting classes year-after-year but resigned recently after his brother's death.
Georgetown has had a rough run under Ewing but that could turn around with their 2021 recruiting class currently ranked 13th.

I work with a guy in Brooklyn and when I told him I was Bearcat fan he told me he named his son Nicolas, partly after Nick Van Exel.
Brannen was the safe hire and the jury still remains out on him.
Van Exel would've been an exciting hire and I can guarantee he would've brought a different energy to the program. Maybe he'll still be available a few years from now.
