A lot to like from this game. This team really has the ability to out-run teams and wear them down. Granted, it's UCF, but we're too athletic to play at a slow-tempo all the time.

- Shaq seems to be finding his niche. Really hoping he can keep that up, because I've said that before.
- Need to box out more and stop trying to block every shot. That's what lead to a bunch of offensive rebounds and put-backs by UCF, it seemed like.
- Ellis showed his versatility last night. He may not be ripped like some guys down low, but he's a lot quicker than most. Tough to guard.
- Kevin's in a funk again. The stupid passes REALLY have to stop. The problem is, with our lack of guard depth right now (no Guyn/Morman), we don't really have a choice but to play him a lot. There's still plenty of time for him to figure it out in his career, but this is crunch time for this season. I don't want to see him with the ball unless he's spotting up for an open 3.
- Great awareness by Caupain/Cobb all night. Shooting when they're open, passing when they're not, and getting long rebounds. They combined for 21/11/9.
- Sanders has vanished again. Was completely MIA in his 18 minutes (0 points). Shaq should (will) start from here on out.

Can't get too caught up in this easy win. We've had a tough time on the road, so start preparing for Tulane ASAP. I don't want to see another loss till the AAC tourney.

Yah...I have no idea what happened to Sanders and Shaq. The last 6 games...

Sanders

1 pts/game
2/20 FG (10%)
1/6 FT's (17%)
2/15 3 pts (13%)

Thomas

9 pts/game
21/36 FG's (58%)
9/11 FT's (82%)
2/5 3 pts (40%)

Great thoughts. I especially agree with the last part. Remember when we (the players) got all happy after the UConn game and we blew the next ECU game? This weekend is another chance to show some growth and maturity.

Shaq has always been the better solution and is good to see him being aggressive. Hopefully he has turned the corner

Last night we shot a higher % from 3 than on FT. Don't see that very often. I don't mind 12 TO (especially since KJ had 4) when we are pushing the pace like we did. At UCF's scoring pace last night, it would've taken 16 extra minutes of us not scoring at all for them to win. That's a big margin for error.
Two of his TO's were not his fault. One ws when Ellis didn't break on ball abnd the other was on a roll to hoop his man left him out ot dry by not rolling.

I didn't think there was anywhere to roll for the big guy (Ellis?) on his first TO right when he got in if that's what you're talking about. I might need to see it again though. Either way, he makes some terrible passes.

Everyone is getting the benefits of a faster pace except Sanders and DeBerry. Even Quadri can take it coast to coast!

I don't think it surprises anyone that Sanders and Deberry would struggle in an up-tempo style of play. Sanders has always been a step slow. However, when we went up-tempo against Temple, he thrived in that particular game. Amazing how he went from very solid a couple weeks ago to abysmal now. KJ has had the same thing happen. Shaq goes from abysmal to all-american. Cobb was abysmal a couple weeks ago and is thriving now. I guess we could say this about each and every player as a matter of fact. This team leaves you scratching your head more often than not. I guess I sympathize with the coaches in trying to figure out which style to play. Not easy with this group and its inconsistency.

This team reminds me a little of the 2000-2001 team. We lost some games that year. I think 10 overall (and not sure about in conference). Obviously having Logan that year makes a difference, but we could win any style. So despite the high # of losses, we made it to the Sweet 16. And by winning 1 game where we scored 84 and in the other we held our opponent to 43. This team can do the slow possession grind where we try to hold a team down in the 40s. But games like last night show that we're also learning that yes, you are allowed to keep ramming it down their throat and attacking the hoop if the let you. It feels good.

Edit- Plus that year also came after we lost an All-American and other significant players...and the good news about it is that the next year we got a 1 seed...

Off-topic: I just went back looking on that 2001 tournament since you brought it up...you think the AAC is rough right now? That year, UC and UNC Charlotte were the only C-USA teams in the tourney. And Charlotte got in by winning the league tourney (9 seed; might've still been an at-large). That must've been an awful year for the conference.

That year we were a 5 seed. We made the sweet 16 by blowing out 12 seed BYU and 13 seed Kent State (who upset 4 seed Indiana). We then lost by double digits to 1 seed Stanford. That was the only sweet 16 in Coach Huggins last nine years.

Satterfield had career game against Collins twins

If memory serves, that game was extremely close at the half. Seem to recall Casey Jacobsen going off in the 2nd.
