Jeff, while I think everyone should beable to have their say and voice there opinions. I'm at a loss for the negativity and misinformation surrounding the Coach. Debating strategy and personell is fun but with the limited information and lack of experience as D1 coaches we are less the asute in our observations to say the least. We now have half the board defending the Coach and the other half attacking him. I'm glad baseball season is here. Enjoyed the site but feel its losing some credibility because some have a agenda other than enjoying the conversation and rooting for the Cats. Many apparently are posting under multiple ID's. Hope you can get this fixed because it is a nce site to talk basketball on. Hope when i return thngs have improved.

This site is going down hill fast. It'd be nice if there could actually be conversation regarding the stuff Mick does rather than just trying to insult him or blindly defend him. I'm very critical of Mick as a coach at times but what I may criticize are his coaching, philosophies, recruitment, etc, not personal attacks against him. I think he is open to criticism but there are others (L-T, Cats01, CaptDale) who have a personal bias against him and just rip Cronin without adding any insight. It's getting old fast.

My CEO is on the board at NC State and flat out told me they offered Mick Cronin. His salary would have more than doubled. Mick turned them down to stay at Cincinnati.

Wow, I had not heard that. I knew he was rumored to have been in the running for it. I always doubted he would leave but I really feel solid about it now. NC State is a great basketball job.

UC coach Mick Cronin declined to comment Wednesday on reports that he’s a possible candidate for the UCLA job or any other job.

“I’m happy,” Cronin said. “Nothing has changed in my world. I’m worried about recruiting. The other job stuff, that’s all speculation. I’m worried about Cincinnati. I’m excited about next year. I’m really happy with our recruiting class. Right now we’re in the evaluation process of what we’ve got to do to get better.”

Cronin, who is under contract at UC through 2017, said he has not had discussions with athletic director Whit Babcock about an extension.

“There’s so many other things going on with the league stuff that I understand,” Cronin said. “Nobody has had a harder job than Whit Babcock probably since September when all this started spinning.”

We have to play all the patsies in the beginning of the year so Mick can say he had another 20+ win season.

You actually think Mick is willing to sabotage the RPI and SOS just to add to his win total? It all comes down to money. We don't have the money to get a lot of the buy games against teams projected to finish in the 101-199 range. Those teams have come to realize how vital they are to the RPI and they are charging a boatload for games. It was even worse under the former AD, who drastically cut the budget for the OOC schedule, citing the difficulty of the BE schedule. This was actually one of the first things that Whit changed and we saw a big difference in the OOC schedule this year.

Absolutely correct.

uh, didn't you say "I find it funny some fans are just happy making the tournament"

let's see 14 stright with a final four, a few elite eights, sweet sixteens.

three stright with a 3-3 record.

the people who try and discredit a man because of what he did in march are happy with a 3-3 record in march after 7 years.

does this make sense to you?

Absolutely agree with this post 100%. I am going to be watching both sides of this very closely. Personal attacks on the coach or another poster are off limits. If you can't defend your point with facts don't enter debate.

Ok, Mr Psychologist, when you show me your PHD then you can analyze me. I may not like his performance, but I have no bias. All I want him to do is educate himself to different coaching techniques and provide a winning venue. Utilize his assets efficiently. Be a coach that inspires his team to go the extra mile (or step in this case). He is not the epitome of a coach I adore, but he's still the coach until his contract expires (and beyond if all of the sudden he is successful beyond where he is now). I've stated my insight - Mick needs to keep studying. One is never too old to learn. Even Tiger still takes lessons - constantly - to help him stay at the top of his game. If and when he does that, then I'll sing his praises like The LongHaul canary. I'm no more an authority than you, but I do know that if you've tried something repeatedly and it doesn't work, maybe you're doing something WRONG!

Just announced a home and home with Michigan, you were saying?

A step in the right direction. And how many years away do we play them?
This should have been done long ago. Not every team has to be an elite, but those teams are the ones that define your programs strengths and weaknesses unlike the ultra weak walkovers. The teams we play are the equivalent to the Washington Generals. They play everybody they can for the $$ and lose every game (except Presbyterian). So if we want a workable offense/defense we need to test it against teams (and they don't all have to be Michigan - any Top 100 RPI would do) who will test its effectiveness. we can afford those teams and I'm sure Elites would like to see how their offenses stack up against our defense - which, is usually pretty tight. We can thank Mick for that - right Long Haul?

Do you really think that the 100-199 teams have any leverage as to how much they can charge us for the privilege of inflating our RPI (which playing them won't do). We're the name team. We're the draw. That's where they make their bucks, not vice versa.

Mick asked Kentucky, NC St., etc. for a long time to play. Problem was, nobody until recently wanted to play us at home. From Kentuckys standpoint, why would you want to play us at our place? Kentucky either wants marquee games or cupcakes. For the past few years, UC has been in that grey area as far as prestige. Not until last year and now this year are they starting to be able to get draws like those teams. I think everything was done to try to get a few more marquee matchups, it just takes time to regain respect on the national level.

If my memory serves me (and it often does not), but didn't we used to get invitations to early season mini-tournaments (like Vegas) more frequently than we have been? Maybe I'm thinking too far back.
