Mick really wants him to be though. That's what makes me nervous about Big Game Mick. I have no problem with relying heavily on Caupain down the stretch...as long as he's fresh. I'd be hard-pressed to believe that a lot of his late game mistakes aren't fatigue related.
jake your putting a lot of pressure on one player. Again he is not Kimba Walker or SK. He is our best player and needs the other 4 players to help win the game. I know what everyone wants him to be but he is not a guy who will breakdown the defense off the dribble effortlessly, or pull up for 3 on a dime and drain it. He is a good ball handler who can knock down the 3 if open, doesn't turn it over, makes free throws, plays good defense and runs the offense. Fact is we do not have a go to guy on this team. We have to perform as a unit. Which by the way has scored the ball very well this year. Hopefully Evans will become that guy who can take over a game. Appreciate TC for what he is not what he isn't. You could give him 5 more minutes of rest a game and he still won't be Kimba or SK. He'll still be TC. The best PG on this team.

I think he does have a green light, just saying that I agree with it and welcome him shooting as many good looks as possible. If you're asking why he doesn't play more or start I'm not really sure why. I think he should play more than he is right now.
He is getting substantial minutes. He will be a very good player for us. He has skills.

He is definitely "NOT" a good defensive player!

There have been some badly missed shots, missed FT, and bad pass TO down the stretch too. Pretty uncharacteristic. I don't blame him when he's playing 37+ minutes and literally not getting a break the entire 2nd half. But other than that, you can just see it on his face. He, Clark, and Ellis tend to get winded. We'll need all 3 to be able to gut it out down the stretch if we want to win this game.

Jake he has played 3 games this year where he has played over 34 minutes. he is averaging about 30 minutes a game. Guess which ones he played over 34 in.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks teams that play a small rotation of players is somehow a bad thing. A lot of very good teams play small rotations and they do it because they have 7 or 8 players who are all very good. It wasn't until recently with Calipari that playing these types of platoons became a thing but it really only worked for him because he legit had 10 NBA players on his team.

Most very good teams rely on a small rotation of players. SMU has more than 7 guys on their roster, but they only play 7 because all 7 are very good. I'm willing to bet the other guys on the bench who don't play much bring just as much value as Jenifer or Quadri do.

These kids are 20 years old, they can handle playing a high number of minutes.
do we have 1 very good player on our team? I only see Ellis being only player on team that without a doubt would start for 90% of teams in top 50

It's going to be a struggle. I'd say our 2 weakest parts of our team right now are 3-point shot defense and giving up offensive rebounds. SMU ranks 8th in 3-point shooting % and 2nd in offensive rebound %, rebounding an insane 44% of their misses.

Their worst 3 point shooter is at 35%. They have guys at 41.7, 47.9, and 64.7 (17 attempts).

Their defense doesn't seem as good as it has been in the past. Hopefully they have an off shooting night and we can play efficient offense.

This one could (probably will) be an eye bleeder.
All 5 need hit the glass

jake in a perfect world I would agree. Problem is if we are behind in 1st half or off to a very bad start like we have in a few of our high profile games.

Will he needs be benched for performance then! Jenifer is instant offense and our bigs score easily with him in game. Btw, jenifer hasn't played one second this year with socalled starting 5. Let him run with starters and guarantee the entire system runs smoother.

Defense has been the problem late in games. Not offense. Defense is a collective issue and an attitude/effort issue. Can't pin it on one player in most cases.

If UC wants to win at Moody, like last year, they need to step up and play defense like they did against Tulsa. Offensively, they will be fine. Get stops and get a win.

Jason if we don't guard we will get run out of the Gym. This team shoots and hits the offensive glass very well. Their strengths play right into our weaknesses. A win will be a tall order for the Cats.

They are good 3 point shooting team but they also dont shoot a ton of them. Only 24% of there total scoring comes from 3, they actually score much more points in the paint and non 3 point jump shots.

That said, We need to shut down Nick Moore and frustrate the shit out of him

We handled him fairly well last year. In the two games he was 4 -19 against us. He also had 6 TO's in one game. They scored 54 in one game and 50 in another. Both wins for the Cats.

Key nuggets from @EnthusiAdams. In last 5 minutes of 3 home losses, UC is 2-18 from "3" with 6 turnovers. Foes are 7-12 with 1 turnover

You try very hard to not comprehend. If you're losing why keep losers in game? If any player is performing up to par they getting benched. That's beauty of having full scholarship rosters.

Agree totally Jacob. When you're at the game, you can see it far better than you can on TV. He doesn't make the same mistakes earlier in the games. Either he is fatigued, or just choking. I would rather believe it is fatigue.
Little bit of both. He ONLY does what Mick tells him

DEFENSE isn't issue when your up 3-4pts and your all league PG just tosses other team ball unforced. Troy wants nothing to do with ball in clutch time

I hate going to box score but I hate more when pair of lips say anything. Blind man see we win every game but one if we don't mentally breakdown in crunch time. Conditioning is MAJOR issue on this team.

I was at the game at Moody last year and our defense in that game was amazing. Not only were the SMU players frustrated, but the fans were too. It was great!
