Is it possible to expand on this? Or have we already and I missed it? Everything I heard early in the year was that this was a really good group of guys that liked each other. If there was a weakness, it was that the team did not have enough fire.

Its disappointing to hear otherwise.

I'm assuming he's referring to the Lance-Rashad situation.

I also remember Mick alluding to some finger pointing early in conference play. On that note, I wouldn't be surprised if Lance or someone else may have called Yancy and/or Vaughn's effort into question. That's just me speculating though.

What happened between Lance and Rashad?

I've just heard numerous times rumors of them not getting along. One person mentioned them getting into an altercation before the ND game. I guess Bishop wasn't thrilled when Lance came, essentially thought his spot was being taken.

I have no proof, just repeating what I've heard and speculating on what the OP was alluding to.

Did Lance hire an agent? If he did then forget it, if he didnt the door might still be open on him returning...

In my opinion, we will be very scoring deprived next season, unless Mick can pull off something like he did last year with Lance. There is not 1 proven scorer on this team. I hate to say it, but if we miss out on a 68 team NCAA tournament next year, I think Mick will be gone, unless he can pull of another coup this year in recruiting a top talent.

Yes, he did.

Scoring next year looks to be a major concern. If they can manage to do it with their bigs, I'd press and run a WHOLE LOT. Let gets some of our points come from our defense and transition. Running half court sets with the CURRENT roster we'll be lucky to produce more than 55-60 pts a game IMO.

Some will say running down the shot clock will improve our chances b/c we look to be so offensively challenged, I disagree.

Run, run, run. Go nuts with the subs, Mick. Have at it, it may actually work.

What was wrong with last year? 19 wins, beat Louisville in Big East Tourney, got to Maui championship game, got in NIT, the needle is pointing in the right direction!

I just joined this board to get away from the extreme sides of Fire Mick or Mick is the greatest. Then I see Mick's BFF is on this board also, wow.

Not a strong first post. Maybe you shouldn't judge this board by 1 post from Ralph. We are here to talk about UC sports. If you have a problem doing that, maybe this isn't the place for you. We are not interested in talking about Mick Cronin unless it is substatiated (substitution pattern, coaching decisions, etc). Mick Cronin has been debated here already ad nausium. He is the coach of the UC Bearcats and we are here to support the team heading into the 2010-2011 season and that includes Mick Cronin. If, at a future time, it is relevant to revisit the Mick Cronin discussion, then so be it. This is not that time.

Don't worry about ralph, he's harmless and this is a good board. He is a senior member here like it or not (I like it). By far this is the best board for UC sports (although I did hear we added quite a few members today so who knows when it will go down hill) If you dont like it here I'm sure I wont be the only one to say dont come back!

I think I may have been misunderstood or maybe didn't type enough. I agree I am tired of all of the Mick banter. I am also tired of all of the history of nonsense posts (NC if UC gets Riek, silent verbals, etc) on other boards trying to bait others.
I actually like this board the most out of all of the others because it doesn't have much of that type of activity, I think we all hope it stays that way.
The recruiting info on this site has been excellent. Thanks to everyone for putting time into running this site. Keep it up.

Cool. I may have misunderstood. Looking forward to the excellent discussions.

Said this ALL last year. Makes zero sense why this team does not press and run. Put athletes out in the open floor and let them RUNNNNNNN. We are not Princeton, that style will fail here.

And kids like playing this style too. Makes it easier to recruit if you actually play that style and not just say you are going to.

You have to be able to take care of the ball to run on offense. This team did not do that well in transition. Pressing is a different matter. You have to be able to guard cross court and deep. Again, this team did not do that well consistently either.

Maybe so but if you want to win games this year, this team will have to run. I can't remember a Bearcat team that got easy baskets on a consistent basis since maybe that 2002 team with Logan and Stokes.

Press and run with Gates and Toyloy? Can't happen. If Mick really wants to run he needs to recruit that type of player. He didn't with Gates, Toyloy, Vaughn (not his fault), Bishop, etc.... It looks like he is trying with Jackson as that fits his game. Not so sure of Kilpatrick.

Not to mention pressing is the most overrated thing in all of college basketball. The only really reason to do it anymore is to increase the tempo of the game or hide serious flaws in your defense. Players ball handling skills have gotten better over the past 10 years to where pressing doesn't present as many problems.

That team played far more m2m than press.

I'm not saying press necessarily but they need to find a way to get easy buckets. If that is pressing, so be it.

They definitely need to find a way to force more turnovers. Overall, I thought our defense was pretty good last year, but it could have been really good to possibly great if they wouldn't have been one of the worst teams in the country at forcing turnovers. And as you pointed out, it would also really help our offense.

Pressing and up tempo ball sounds great in theory, but in reality we weren't a good team on the break last year unless Lance had the ball and we were a really poor transition defensive team.

I think the team will be more experienced and mature next year (especially guys like Parker and Cash), so hopefully we can improve dramatically in those areas.

Horrible transition team.
