I am talking about for me personally. I would rather the game be cancelled.

Fans have lost all control over what the spirit of college athletics should be. Players getting into numerous fights.

It has turned into something that I do not like. To me it is about the fans not being able to accept it. I saw some embarressing things after this years shootout between fans.

It is not an over reaction. I have thought about this and believe a 2 year break would be good.

It will not happen but I wish some people knew how to act.

Over reaction.

Amusing to watch people freak out over this. Simply amusing.

Brady nearly slugged his O cordinator in the face today, maybe the NFL should be canceled.

Not an over reaction at all. It has turned into something I dont like.

Again, I am not saying the teams will do this. I am saying this for me personally?

The Shootout should not be cancelled. It's a great game with a ton of history and something players and fans on both sides look forward to. It's a rivalry that divides our city and starts for fans of either team at a young age. It's a great thing.

To cancel the game because of the actions of a class of playeres on either side isn't fair to the people who played this game in the past or will play it in the future.

This wasn't an isolated incident. This was animosity that grew between a couple of classes of players on both sides and exploded during the end of the game.

If I don't get to take my kids to the shootout one day because of Tu Holloway, Mark Lyons and Yancy Gates then how is that fair to anyone?

It is turning into an Auburn-Alabama or OSU - Mich hate fueled rivalry where people lose all perspective. I am not interested in my local schools getting to that point.

People paying college kids to go to there school?? Getting into fights with fans? I saw a young Xavier fan being so obnoxious and nasty to an older man that was a UC fan after the game. She was clearly drunk and screaming at him. It was unreal.

I think both schools need to take a step back and realize this game has severely damaged both school image for this year.

Xavier team throughout this year will be tarnished. Everyone around the country will associate Tu as a bad guy. Yancy the same way.

These are two great schools with very good basketball tradition. I hate that the game has turned into this.

Objectively, I think it makes sense to cancel at least for the next 3 years. Wells, Ellis, Guyn, etc do not need to be playing each other again. Xavier has had enough recent success that they can move on and UC can easily find another mid-major program to play home and home with. There is too much to lose for both sides and not enough to gain.

But no way I want to hear about this loss the next 3 years... so I hope we play them.

I think it would be a huge step for the shcools to decide to cancel the game. Work together in off season and resume in 2 years.

Not so much for players but the fans have escalated this to the "hate" level.

I wish there was a white flag icon.

Just messin with ya greatone.

unfourtanately you should be able to talk smack about the game. No one cares about the game at this point which sucks.

Your constantly trying to downplay the effect of this game but I think you will realize it as it follows Tu and Mack for awhile.

No it wont. Once A-10 play comes it will all be over. The only thing talked about it in March will be how Xavier overcame this incident and Tu turned it around. Xavier will be a threat to make a deep run and I think that will be talked about more then what happened in the shootout. If anything is said at all, I think it will be something along the likes of:

"While I know Xavier had an ugly incident against UC, they have turned it around and are serious contenders..." I think it will be mentioned but it wont be the main topic surrounding X in March. Same for UC if they turn things around in Big East play.

How has that Georgetown fight followed them? Could anyone care less about that now? This will be a story for about a week and it may occasional be brought up- but not the main story around either team. It just won't be a big deal (hell, it won't be a deal at all)l in a few months. Pretty much no one will care about it- much like the G-town fight.

You may be right about Xavier. Nothing ever sticks to them. UC is a different story. Everyone always said they were nothing but thugs under Huggins. This is going to stick around for a long time with UC, unfortunately. Tu is up on the press table after, talking like a moron in the post game press conference and then even saying things to PDoc after that and yet, UC will have the tarnished image here for a long time. Not XU.

Tu Holloways comments will follow him around for this entire year. He is a well known player. His rep has never been that good and has taken some hits but this really will follow him. If they make a run in March Tu Holloway will be the villan verse every team he faces. Those comments will follow him.

I am not saying the season is over and his career is shot. I am just saying Gates and Holloway will have this follow them. Dez Well, Ge-lawn, Cheik will be forgotten with this incident.

It will be the Gates punch and Holloway gansta/zip em up comments that will not go away.

Gates connecting made this a bigger deal than Gtown.

UC and X need to tighten this up right now.

Xavier rep has been declining around the country for the last couple of years. Ask Butler, Dayton, Indiana, UC fans.

Look at the national message boards. Neither school well thought of and it is not just about this incident.

I don't really think thats true You say the rep has been declining around the country for last few years....ask Xaviers three biggest rivals and a team in the tri-state area. (The only reason Indiana may hate X is because Xavier benefited from Indiana violations).

I don't see what Tu said following him in the tournament. I think the country will still like Xavier going into the tournament because they are a non BCS team that can make a deep run. They will be a 3 seed easily and could be a 2. (They will role the A-10, and gonzaga, Memphis will be hardest games left. LBSU will be extremely tough, an expected loss, with Xavier missing 40% of starting line up) I think while some are underestimating this- you are overestimating it.

Really, it all depends on how each team responds when they get players back. If nothing happens again for either team- this will be a non issue.

I don't even think UC will--especially how Mick has handled things.

No doubt- Xavier should have never let Tu and Lyons talk after the game. If they don't allow them to talk this would not be as big.

As for the crosstown, I don't think it should be canceled. I have seen people suggest it being played at a neutral court. What are your thoughts on that? I can understand the Idea- but I think it would cause way too many problems in the crowd. I think both teams getting together after the season and doing some work together in the city will be a good thing.

I think the graduation of Gates and Frease will go a long way. It is well know that they do not get along. The rest of these guys generally get along.

Neutral court is not the answer. You will have more issues in the crowd and that will be the talk of the shootout, as you mentioned. The last thing this rivalry needs is more black to an already discolored eye. I think they should take a year or two off and then resume the game at UC. Like OSU - Michigan in football, your record as a player in the shootout is something important to the players. A year or two without the game will send a major statement to the players. Ending it for good would be wrong.
