Cash also has a sore knee.
Mick also mentioned how this was a tough matchup for the 4s and 5s because all of Wright State's players pick and pop instead of roll. Mick mentioned that we won't see any games like that in the Big East and I agree. The big guys will bang down low in conference. Tough cover for Yancy and Thomas when they aren't used to it. Throw in the illness going around on the team and the lack of practice time this week as a result, and I would have to say it was a good effort today.
Definitely understand that. I just have a really high standard for this defense because of what I have seen so far. They didn't meet that standard tonight overall. There were definitely good things though.
Anyone know the attendence tonight?
5871 according to the box score. It looked to me like it was more, but I am obviously wrong. Still better than the 1st 4 games. As the wins mount, I hope FTA can start rocking again.
Went to the game last night. Here is some thoughts on individual players and the team all together..
Cash- still missed layups, has potential to get to rim at any time, teams will start respecting his 3 pt shot as time goes on.
Dion- I still think hes terrible, he cant handle or pass at all. if he plays point vs some good pressuring teams UC is in trouble.. his shot is starting to fall however and he has to use his unbelievable athleticism.
Yancey- Looked like something was wrong with him.. now i know why, he was sick.
SK- Man this kid can score, does not seem liked he missed a shot or freethrow last night.. like i have said before give him the ball and move out the way.. Why is Larry getting more minutes than him.
Larry- terrible, but Cronin still gives him minutes..
Darnell- played a good chunk of minutes, sometimes looks lost or too scared to make a play, had one heck of a alley oop dunk though.
JJ- Man he is going to be good.. his defense and intensity is contagious, had a couple dunks. getting the ball in bounds is really hard with him on the inbounder.
Ibrahima- plays good vs certain teams, boxes out right under neath the basket. needs to play stronger but has potential.
Jaquon- I really thought JP would have more of an impact, he kinda of gets lost in the rotation.. I look for him to transfer if he does not get adequate minutes.. seems really unhappy out there. why is Davis getting more minutes than him..
There was alot of emotion with the players, which is a good sign... Justin head butted a basketball and the ref(TIMMY HIGGINS) led him to Cronin and i think told Cronin he needed to stop acting up.. JJ is going to be a special player. Higgins needs to never ref another UC game again, he definately has a grudge against them.. UCs chemistry on defense is very good, but there offense has alot to go.. If they play as hard on offense as they do defense, they have a good shot at making noise in the Beast tournament and the NCAA tournament..
Cincy Insanity:
Higgins ABSOLUTELY has a grudge against UC. Every 50/50 call goes against us. It's terrible.
My entire family recently had a discussion about "this one ref that does UC games" and we all realized we were discussing the same person.
HIGGINS must go!
Larry Davis played well in the press last night. People are expecting too much of Jaquon. Jaquon is a solid player that won't hurt you and he will have a game here or there where he scores 10-12 points a game but he isn't a star player. He is something every team needs. A solid player who can come in a not kill you off the bench, and can play multiple positions. I wish we had another true point so he could play more 2-3.
SK is going to be a very good Bearcat. He and JJ will be a great combo for the next 2-3 seasons. Think SK will leave after his junior year.
