Wright State game tonight

Good performance tonight against a well coached, senior guard laden Wright State team. SK was unconscious, but best of all he did not try and force things even though he could not miss. He played within the flow of the offense. Even though Wright State made a game of it at the end, the outcome was never in question. Surprisingly, I think this Wright State team is actually better than Dayton. Tells you how much backcourt senior leadership means in college basketball, and why we have struggled in the past 4 years. Our starting backcourt is still essentially young, but growing up in a hurry. Even though the final score looks close, I'm more excited about the rest of this season than I was before tonight. The crowd wasn't too bad either. Lets keep supporting our Cats!

Mick also mentioned how this was a tough matchup for the 4s and 5s because all of Wright State's players pick and pop instead of roll. Mick mentioned that we won't see any games like that in the Big East and I agree. The big guys will bang down low in conference. Tough cover for Yancy and Thomas when they aren't used to it. Throw in the illness going around on the team and the lack of practice time this week as a result, and I would have to say it was a good effort today.

Definitely understand that. I just have a really high standard for this defense because of what I have seen so far. They didn't meet that standard tonight overall. There were definitely good things though.

I would agree and the best part is that I think the team would agree too. This team does not seem satisfied at all which may be their best attribute.

Anyone know the attendence tonight?

5871 according to the box score. It looked to me like it was more, but I am obviously wrong. Still better than the 1st 4 games. As the wins mount, I hope FTA can start rocking again.

Unfortunately in Cincinnati the Field of Dreams rules apply. If you build it, they will come. If you aren't any good, no one will come. And if you aren't good for a few years, you have to prove it before anyone comes. That is just how it is in Cincinnati unfortunately.

Student section was almost filled but they were tame. Decent crowd. I would have guessed 7,000 but I dont know.

From Twiiter:

pauldehnerjr Yancy Gates was so sick he couldn't eat the past 2 days, according to Cronin. Played 33 min with 10 pts, 7 rebs. Warrior.

That was certainly the best crowd of the season thus far... a good start I'd say. Go up to Toledo and smack around them and next Saturday should be a very nice showing.

Went to the game last night. Here is some thoughts on individual players and the team all together..
Cash- still missed layups, has potential to get to rim at any time, teams will start respecting his 3 pt shot as time goes on.

Dion- I still think hes terrible, he cant handle or pass at all. if he plays point vs some good pressuring teams UC is in trouble.. his shot is starting to fall however and he has to use his unbelievable athleticism.

Yancey- Looked like something was wrong with him.. now i know why, he was sick.

SK- Man this kid can score, does not seem liked he missed a shot or freethrow last night.. like i have said before give him the ball and move out the way.. Why is Larry getting more minutes than him.

Larry- terrible, but Cronin still gives him minutes..

Darnell- played a good chunk of minutes, sometimes looks lost or too scared to make a play, had one heck of a alley oop dunk though.

JJ- Man he is going to be good.. his defense and intensity is contagious, had a couple dunks. getting the ball in bounds is really hard with him on the inbounder.

Ibrahima- plays good vs certain teams, boxes out right under neath the basket. needs to play stronger but has potential.

Jaquon- I really thought JP would have more of an impact, he kinda of gets lost in the rotation.. I look for him to transfer if he does not get adequate minutes.. seems really unhappy out there. why is Davis getting more minutes than him..

There was alot of emotion with the players, which is a good sign... Justin head butted a basketball and the ref(TIMMY HIGGINS) led him to Cronin and i think told Cronin he needed to stop acting up.. JJ is going to be a special player. Higgins needs to never ref another UC game again, he definately has a grudge against them.. UCs chemistry on defense is very good, but there offense has alot to go.. If they play as hard on offense as they do defense, they have a good shot at making noise in the Beast tournament and the NCAA tournament..

I honestly don't remember Cash missing a layup last night. I thought he played very well when he was in there.

And that was by far Larry Davis' best game of the year. He definitely contributed positively last night.

Larry Davis played well in the press last night. People are expecting too much of Jaquon. Jaquon is a solid player that won't hurt you and he will have a game here or there where he scores 10-12 points a game but he isn't a star player. He is something every team needs. A solid player who can come in a not kill you off the bench, and can play multiple positions. I wish we had another true point so he could play more 2-3.

SK is going to be a very good Bearcat. He and JJ will be a great combo for the next 2-3 seasons. Think SK will leave after his junior year.

Cincy Insanity:

Higgins ABSOLUTELY has a grudge against UC. Every 50/50 call goes against us. It's terrible.

My entire family recently had a discussion about "this one ref that does UC games" and we all realized we were discussing the same person.

HIGGINS must go!

I can't stand that guy!

I don't think Killa is athletic enough to play in the NBA.

Higgins is beyond terrible.

I agree with a lot of Cincy Intensity but definately disagree with his assessment of Larry Davis LAST night. I know he hasn't been great but I thought that was his best game in years.

His role now is to be an energy guy. He brought tons of energy and played great defense.

Larry Davis played good for bein Larry Davis. i think he shot 3 times and hit a 3.. he looks to play good on the ball defens because he is constantly moving his feet. he is terrible and there should be no reason that he is in the game before SK. Not only can SK shoot but his passing is stellar and he is buying into the defense part. As for Higgins the NCAA needs to investigate him. i know it sounds stupid but they need to go back and watch the game and watch the calls he makes.. Every game at UC he Refs he blows atleast 3 to 4 calls. He is terrible. i was sitting about 10 rows up from half court and clearly seen the ball go off a Wright state players foot, he didnt even hesitate to call it off UC and there were 2 officials standing right by the play.. He has to go period...

Higgins is a complete hack! He is a UC hater and I don't know how he is allowed to still ref our games. I don't understand the hate for Dion Dixon. I think he has been our most reliable guard this year and his shooting and handles have improved greatly. I think some people need to relax with Dion. I too would like to see Larry Davis's minutes cut. Maybe 10-14 min a night would be all you need him for.
