Very proud of the bearcats! Impressive to come out like that. Best part of the game....end game interview with kilpatrick....THANK YOU MR.KATZ. That made me chuckle.

Glad to see the Cats win....

If they can get these young kids all this PT now, maybe when we get the big dogs back we'll see more of an up tempo offense. It was good to see the good shooting, but we know that will not be consistent all season. Saw a couple transition points that have me hopeful

Jermaine Sanders stood out from the young guys

Was at a business dinner and only got to catch glimpses of the game but I really liked what I saw from Parker an was really glad to see Sanders hit his 3's. Mostly I love the way the team was gathering together on court. I haven't seen that all season long. I'm proud of our university. They've shown the world a lot over the past 5 days.

great game

ya I thought they played better than they had all year. Jermaine sanders was what 3 for 3 lets not forget this was an elite recruiting class and we aint even got shaq yet. Whatever happens this year happens but we aint going no where. go cats

Quote from Wright State Head Coach:

Credit Cincinnati to go through what they had been through. They were talking. Their unity was terrific throughout the game. That is a credit to those guys, that coaching staff. Sometimes in adverse conditions is where you find out the soul of a person. They have a pretty passionate and admirable soul. That is what I take from the game, the life value of the game.

You could see a quiet confidence and a group of guys that were here with a purpose. That purpose was fulfilled, no question.

i watched the game during a conference with no sound...going to rewatch shortly. but my take

a lot of times teams depend on their "best" (or guy who is supposed to be their best player- even though yancy is not our best player) player too much. they lose intensity because they expect that guy to make up for them or carry them. or they take on the identity of their "best" player. unfortunately for UC- that guy they expect to carry them usually only gives about 80% effort and never really goes hard and never displays a warrior mentality/killer instinct...

...take that guy away, and all of the sudden players feel an urgency, and start picking up slack knowing their safety net is gone. more people start making plays and more people are assertive.

could be a one game fluke, or i could be spot on- we shall see. regardless, the cats looked like they cared tonight, actually huddled up frequently on the court (hadnt seen that in years), communicated, shot with confidence, and were a lot more active with their hands than they have been all year.

Now just take away their second "best" player, i.e. Dixon, and they will be even better. Not sure what has gotten into Dixon that made him believe he not only was the best player on the court, but that the court was Rucker park. Anyone notice at around the 15 minute mark in the second half he brought the ball up all the way to the 3 point line while skipping and bouncing it between his legs? Weirdest thing I have ever seen. Other than his continued selfishness, the team looked pretty good. Way too many jacked up 3's out of the context of the offense, but at least they went in this time around.

I fear that we are relying too much on the three because this team can burn themselves doing that.

I was very happy with the game. I was really impressed with Cashmeres speed and tempo.

Kudos to Mick for pulling the guys together last night. We played with a lot of emotion and urgency which is something this team has been lacking for a very long time.

Nothing new from the offense last night, we just made our shots. We're not going to make our outside shots consistantly enough to win a ton of games the way we did last night.

Maybe Mick should switch to recruiting a bunch of fast guys who can shoot. Get a couple Gaines like bodies who can play D and rebound and won't contribute much on the offensive end. If we had a bunch of fast dudes who could shoot like Killa we might have a very dangerous team.

Maybe democrats and rebublicans should come up with budget cuts.

I think it's possible to find better shooters without cracking into the top 100 or top 50 recruits in the country. There are a lot of mid-major teams that are stacked with these types of guys. A lot of times with the bigger recruits you're getting prospects who have a ton of potential or athletic ability but are very raw. Just like in the NBA where teams will draft guys high because they have a lot of potential but not necessarily the best stats in college. Mark Redford is a dweeb but a player like him could be deadly in our offense. In Mick's offense I think it makes sense to have 3 guys like Killa and Redford and a couple good shooters coming off the bench. Go out and get big bodied scrappers like Gaines to man the boards and play tough D under the hoop.

If Mick is able to keep his job the next few years I think he'd be wise to go with a quicker 3 guard lineup if he isn't willing to switch his offensive style.

a team full of guys like Gaines as our bigs would not be a good thing. UC is not going to make 14 three's very many nights this year and when that time comes they are going to need guys who can score 12 feet and in. And Gaines only had 2 boards in 17 minutes, so its not like he really "manned the boards" last night in his first extended time.

You cant run this type of offense without consistent shooting. Might as well call it the x factor offense.

My hope is that with these young guys finally getting some PT, the offense will pick up the tempo as it did toward the end of last year.

The Cats got to the free throw line a couple times when they pushed, they made a 3 off pushing the ball and I saw Parker and Cash running the floor for 2. It was good to see all the made 3's. I just hope the Cats dont hang their hat on that

As for Gaines, lets not forget he's only a red-shirt freshman. Last night he had a good block, a nice QUICK bounce pass to a cutting guard for 2 and I feel he brings a presence that the younger guys can feed off of. A raw big man has to start somewhere and although he isnt Wilt Chamberlain, I really like his upside

Speaking of Shaq, is he practicing with the team? I haven't noticed him on the bench, has he been there and I've just missed him?

I can't believe some of you guys. Seriously.

This is the same offense they have been running, only the shots went in? This had to be a joke right? This was NOT the same offense. The offense that was being run before was one with a big on the block and another setting a screen at the top of the key. There was no big on the block 95% of that game. They were running a form of the dribble-drive offense that Calipari made famous at Memphis and now Kentucky. Take your man off the dribble and then kick to an open shooter or go to the basket. Simple, but effective.

They took too many threes out of the context of the offense, but at least they went it? They were running a 4 guard, and sometimes 5 guard line up in which they drove the lane effectively and kicked to open shooters. There were also solid screens away from the ball to help open guys up on the perimeter. You don't shoot 14-32 from 3 by taking a bunch of contested shots. People still think no one on this team can shoot. Kilpatrick is a very good shooter from 3. Actually, so is Dion. Cash shoots pretty well from three and we finally saw Jermaine Sanders do what he did in HS from outside the arc. These guys were not getting the open looks on a consistent basis earlier this year.

Now just take away their second "best" player, i.e. Dixon, and they will be even better? Please tell me this was a joke. Some of you guys need to chill out. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You want this team to play with confidence but you don't want Dion to dribble between his legs because it is street ball? How OLD are you? Seriously. I want my team to have players with confidence and swagger. I want Dixon to think he is the best player on the court every night. I want SK to think he is the best player on the court every night. Same for every player. And can someone please tell me how Dixon is a selfish player? There's not a player on this team that can be called selfish. EVER. In fact, I think sometimes some of these guys aren't selfish enough. I want my best players to want the ball all the time. That is what makes a good player great and a great player a hall of famer.

I must be delusional l but I really thought, after watching the game last night, people would be happy and talk about how nicely the offense flowed. How they were constantly getting good shots and knocking them down. I thought there might actually be a comment or two about how Mick's offensive adjustments in the last couple days worked and worked well. The fact that people refuse to give Mick and this team any credit at all baffles me. The story was not how many threes they shot, it was how they played in response to the tough situation they were in. And, by the way, you can win and win big shooting 30 threes a game. Look at Duke. Look at the Memphis and Kentucky teams of Calipari. Look at Villanova or even Louisville. The three point shot is a weapon that should be used often and when used properly can dominate a game. I would much rather see 32 threes in a game than 15 threes and 17 shots from 15-20 feet. The 15-20 foot jump shot is the most worthless shot in basketball any more. Why have "mid-majors" been successful in recent years? The three point shot. Butler was a great team that shot a bunch of threes. They rebounded their misses well and got quality looks from the outside. The three point shot is the great equalizer in the game of basketball.

I agree, the point of my post is that if Mick is going to insist on running his current offense and having his guys chuck 3's and mid to long range jumpers it makes sense to run a quicker 3 guard style. Bigs haven't proven to be very successful in our current sets. Say what you want about Yancy but he is a very good player, he just doesn't fit very well into what Mick is trying to do.

The best case would be that Mick changes his offense but I dot see that happening.
