'11 IN PG Marquis Teague (Kentucky Verbal)

This would be a huge get for Cronin. Lance was huge, but the play rarely matched the hype, and fans have largely forgotten that when evaluating Mick.

Yes.

Teague's father was quoted as saying, "It helps that situation" regarding Pitino's uncertainty of returning to Louisville.

I took this to mean that there is more than one situation with Pitino. At the least, the talk of Pitino leaving Louisville was considered by Teague.

Of course, it doesn't help that our fans are calling for Mick's head. Then again, out athletic director came out and gave Mick a vote of confidence (which he should because we've improved every year).

I'll be curious when the "pay sites" received Teague's "Final 3."

I hope you are right because I have a bad feeling about this. It seems more than coincidental that an article comes out saying Teague is close to a decision shortly after Pitino gets his contract extension.

I also read Teague's father's quote to mean that it takes care of the Louisville situation, meaning there are no more question marks there and not that it takes care of one part of it. I think they have the same concerns about Mick being at UC unfortunately.

Rumor has it Teague will anounce in an All Star game next weekend.

Also heard that Purdue and Indiana were cut off his list and his final three are Uk, U of L and UC.

Fans put unrealistic expectations on recruits. Lance had a good freshman season but most people feels he was a bust. He was a bust in not living up to hype only. If you look strictly at numbers he did well. There are many seniors that would like to have his numbers from his freshman season.

I don't know if Teague will come here or not. What I do know is that I watch a ton of AAU and high school games all across this country. What you see at that level is skewed by the talent around particular players. You have exceptions. John Wall, Greg Oden, Xavier Henry for instance. But 99.8% of freshmen will have an adjustment to make and they will be inconsistent. Every player at the high D1 level was a stud in high school or AAU. They also have to deal with college schemes and team defense. There is little to no defense played in AAU or All Star games. Point being, Teague is a helluva player. will he come in and change the basketball world for UC? Who knows. We can say he is one and done all we want but till he steps foot on a college campus nobody knows that.

That being said, I hope he signs with the Bearcats because good players follow good players. And Mr. Teague is a very good player.

Teague is playing AAU ball next weekend. Purdue and Indiana are still in the mix based on a conversation I had with his dad tonight, but they both seem pretty far behind UL, UC and UK. There is no timetable for an announcement, but when Marquis feels 100% on his choice, he is going to make the call. That's where it stands...

I had read that on a rivals mainpage site. Given that you talked to his dad recently I am sure you are correct. Thank you for you input. I will be interested to see what happens. SO he will not be at boo williams?

Boo Williams is an AAU event, and that is where Teague is expected to be next weekend. The list seems to have been narrowed, but all his dad would confirm is that Ohio State and Wake have backed off and are out of the mix. I'll be at Boo, and will have the full court press on watching him play and getting his thoughts on the situation next weekend...

Is that an indirect plug for BCL? :p

I kid, I kid... I for one appreciate your presence here and any and all input you have to add. Also appreciate the work you put in over at BCL. Hope the transition has been good to you guys.

Cool. For Bearcattalk.com member who dont know. Chad works for Bearcatlair.com and covers UC recruiting.

Chad, do you think Marquis could commit at the tournament?

A Teaser over on Scout from Insidetheville.com about Teague...

Dated April 2, 2010
Marquis Teague is getting serious about making his college decision. The No. 1 rated 2011 point guard from Indianapolis told InsideTheVille.com Friday that he has narrowed his list down to three schools and plans to announce his decision next weekend. InsideTheVille.com has the latest from Teague.

I was at several events last year where he was expected to commit to UL and it didn't happen, so it's far from a sure thing. This is a BCL plug. lol. If it does happen I'll be there to cover it first hand...

Do you believe the rumors are true in that the negativity surrounding the program and more specifically Mick have hurt UC?

Yes, the negativity has hurt UC's recruiting. Think about it, 3 or 4 people out of 11,000 were holding up fire Mick signs at the Villanova game. If you are Teague and at the game and see the signs and you want to play for Mick, it gives you cause for worry.

I believe Teague is UC's to lose and the negativity may have caused UC to lose him. Hopefully Mick and Mike Thomas can convince Teague that Mick is going to be UC's coach for a long time.

If Teague is the program changing recruit that we all believe he is, I hope that Mike Thomas has been proactive and has allayed any concerns that the Teague family has about Micks job status. A stong 2011 recruiting class, along with a run at the BE championship next year (which I think is eminently doable), and Mick will be at UC for a very long time. GO BEARCATS!

No offense ralph, but the question was not directed to you... we already know your sentiments on the topic in question. I was looking for another point of view.

Ralph appears to be close to the program and his sentiment appears to be spot on. Additionally, there was a request on BCN two moths ago that all the negative rhetoric was having an adverse efffect on recruiting. This request came from Todd Cunningham at BearcatLair. So more than one source has expressed concern about the Fire Mick crowd hurting the long term success of the program.

I understand that, and I saw the request you're talking about... I'm simply asking another individual, who's specific point of view I haven't heard from, the question... I apologize, it was probably better off done in a PM. I did not mean to put down Ralph, thought I do doubt his sources of information and the validity of his closeness to the program at times.

The concern Todd talked about came directly from the Teague camp so it obviously had some level of impact. From the sound of things it has been worked through, but it was/is one factor...

Thank you for clearing that up. As fans of the team, program and college we have to realize we are representatives just like the players and/or coaches... I hope those of us that believe in the direction of the program currently continue to show our support in any and all fashions.
