Help Support BearcatTalk:

Thank you for clearing that up. As fans of the team, program and college we have to realize we are representatives just like the players and/or coaches... I hope those of us that believe in the direction of the program currently continue to show our support in any and all fashions.

You are absolutely correct. The content and tenor of the posts on message boards such as this can have a positive or negative impact. Look at the thread about Deonte Burton's interest in the Bearcats. His aunt has posted on this thread and hopefuly she can convey how much avid Bearcat fans want him to be a part of the program, and hopefully this will have a positive impact.

There's no doubt that recruits, recruits families, current players and current players families read and post on message boards.

If I remember correctly, Armein Kirkland's brother was a frequent poster on BCN during his playing days.

Also, if I recall, didn't someone close to Jason Maxiell post from time to time as well?

My point is that they read our posts and pick up the vibes from our fanbase. IMO, sure, I think it can have some impact on recruits and even sway their decision whether to commit or not.

I also believe that coaches we are in recruiting battles with use our fanbases negativity against us.

Man, I really hope BCN didn't hurt UC chances with MT. I brought up the Vander Blue situation and was still told I was wrong. Oh well.

Landing a player like Teague would make the off season a lot better this year. Work your magic, Mick!

As long as those of us out their who are a positive driving force for the program let it be known we believe and support, I think it will be just fine. Marquis and his family should know there are plenty of UC fans who believe in the direction of the program and support Mick.

Welcome to BCT, btw.

Thanks, psax! Found this place looking for info on some recruits.

Hope it stays postives with good ball talk.

The college decision of Marquis Teague has seemed to be on the verge of happening any moment for more than a year now. It looks like the wait may finally be over for one of 2011’s prized point guard recruits as Indianapolis Pike’s Teague is Close to Deciding Where he will Commit (Louisville Courier-Journal) amd the announcement is expected this weekend. His father, Shawn, played for Louisville coach Rick Pitino at Boston University and has visited U of L multiple times, leaving the Cards as the perceived leader. In recent months, the University of Kentucky has reportedly made up ground Cincinnati looks to be in consideration as well.

Teague is expected to be playing with Spiece this weekend at the Nike Elite Youth AAU Basketball League at Boo Williams Sports Complex. NBE will be on hand for the action and will report on any news coming out of the event.

FWIW, I'm not buying UK's involvement being too serious.

This is a two horse race, IMO. I still think Ville is the leader, with UC nipping at its heals.

Mick has done a great job thus far. I hope he can close the deal because he certainly has his work cut out for him.

I agree and most UK fans don't think they have a chance. It's UC or Ville. IMO, if he has more say then his dad it's UC, if his dad gets more say then it's ville.

Be nice when Rick and Cal leaves for another job. Has to be tough for Cronin going head to head with these two.

I just thought of something interesting. UL asst. Ralph Willard left the program. Was he the primary recruiter on Teague?

When/why did he leave? I doubt he was the lead recruiter because he just recently joined Pitino's staff. Pitino also recently hired Teague's ex-highschool coach.

This announcement may be a sentinal moment in Cronin's tenure at UC. Getting a guy of Teague's stature may begin a recruiting snowball and return UC to prominence. Missing out on him may lead other top recruits to consider UC, but not be willing to pull the trigger (always the bridesmaid, never the bride). I know I'm being overly dramatic, but here hoping that the Teague's see this as a chance to be put UC over the top.

Last time I remember being this anxious about a recruits decision was when Dermarr Johnson was deciding between UC and UConn. Hopefully MT comes to the same conclusion that DJ did.

All Bearcat fans need to unite and send as many positive vibes as possible Mick and Marquis' way. From the angle I'm looking at things, I agree with Alum that it's a two horse race (UofL; UC) and I also fully believe Marquis truly hasn't made his mind up yet. This will be an interesting next 5 days, that's for sure.

I think IMO Marquis wants to be with Mick and we're pushing his father away.I would hope his father has taken a more recent look at things.I would be willing to blame this on my board BCN. However since the end of the season the wingniuts have shut up. Cross your fingers.

I tend to agree. I think Marquis wants to be a Bearcat but his father is concerned because of the negativity on the UC boards.

In the end, Marquis needs to make the best decision for his life.

Let's just hope that decision ends with MT attending UC. :D

FWIW, this would absolutely revitalize UC's program. It wasn't too long ago that the positions were switched, and UC was gloating about national rankings, conference championships, NBA draft picks and dominance over UofL. Teague would be the lightening rod that sparked a top 10 class at UC. We're in heavy with some very nice wings/forwards. Teague could very well be the catalyst to UC's rebirth among the top programs in the nation.

Here is what it truly boils down to: Does Marquis want attend UofL and be another good player in a solid program? Or, does he want to get credit for helping revitalize an entire basketball program that's universally considered a top 15 program of all-time.

Yes..........I added my bias, but it's the truth. Marquis' commitment to UC would be absolutely monumental in the rebuilding process that started 4 years ago.

#1 PG in the country picked Cincinnati...........a school that has experienced tremendous success at the top, but has slipped to mediocrity. MT is the impact recruit/player that can help transform this mediocrity into success.

Not many college players have that choice.

recruits pick schools for numerous reasons that are obvious and aren't obvious to us. while i agree it could have had a negative impact on our recruitment, i just find it hard to believe that the only reason a guy isn't picking UC is because of a message board. it may not help, but i dont see it being, "well i wanted to go to uc, but i didnt like the fans comments on the message board, so i picked uofl." if he goes to u of l, it will be more due to the family history with pitino and recent success of the program/production of nba players- not because of one of our message boards.

I don't see how you can come here, tell everyone recruits pick schools for a lot of reasons, indirectly admit to not knowing the kid, and then tell us the reason he doesn't pick UC if that should be the case.

Ultimately, most of us really have no clue. But if the Teague family is telling people they don't like the negativity in the fan base (which includes, but goes beyond, a message board), I don't see why some Bearcat fans would discount that.

Either way, I believe I read somewhere (maybe here) that the issue has been worked through. I hope that is the case.

dude, its just my opinion that i do not think that that would be the deciding issue. i think there are much bigger issues at stake here, i.e. getting to the nba, relationships with coaches, dad's history with coaches, systems, etc.

it is just my opinion. am i right? who knows. i think i am, but it doesnt mean that i am. i am simply saying that while it may have an effect, i do not think that the deciding factor in his college decision will be a message board. thats it.

I am verry interested to see if he is going to decide this weekend. I have heard conflicting reports on this. We shall see. Mick believes we are the leader is what I had heard.
