More on Teague situation
By Kyle Neddenriep

Here's the latest on the recruiting situation involving Pike junior Marquis Teague: I spoke with Pike district athletic director James Perkins about an hour ago and he said the Teague family will notify the media (through the school) a week in advance of his decision. At that point, a date and time will be scheduled for a news conference at Pike for Teague to announce his choice.

It had been expected that Teague, a 6-1 point guard ranked No. 2 in the country in the 2011 class by Rivals.com, could make his decision known as early as next week. He has been weighing offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville and Purdue.

Well at least something official's being set in place now... here's to hoping that Marquis wants to be a 'Cat!

FWIW: Jerry Meyer seems to be fairly confident in the "whispers" he's been hearing, as Marquis' Rivals profile now has UK and UofL at a "High" level of interest, with Cincinnati as the only school with "Medium" level interest.

Well, I guess UK is in on everyone.

Kentucky "in" on Rivers?

It appears the University of Kentucky could get into the picture with top junior guard Austin Rivers, whose father - Doc Rivers - the the Boston Celtics coach.

In an interview with Evan Daniels of Scout.com, the younger Rivers said he "would say I'm reopening it. Decommit sounds so negative." He had been committed to the University of Florida since July of 2008.

But the 6-foot-3 Rivers said Florida is still in the picture along with Duke and North Carolina. Rivers told Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel that he expected Kentucky might begin to show some interest because of coach John Caliapri's success with point guards.

"That's a possible school seeing the success they've had with their guards," Rivers told the paper.

Rivers averaged 23.9 points a game as a junior. He's ranked as the No. 4 prospect nationally in the Class of 2011 by Scout.com and No. 8 by Rivals.com

How do you think Michigan, ND, OSU dominated all those years? They loaded up and left the dregs for everyone else.

A feeling based on internet reports or some inside info you are privy to? Just asking.

Just a bad feeling. No inside info.

Most top PG are going to look at UK hard for now on. Year after year, Cal's putting top talent in the league after only one year at school. That's what most of these kids want, a fast trip to the NBA.

I feel UC might have been his fav, but I think world wide wes got him for his buddy.

Source or opinion?

I've been reading that Teague is now a "heavy UK lean" all over the UK boards. They cite other UK bloggers and people affiliated with UK. Of course, there are those "national" recruiting gurus that are saying the same thing (Meyer of Rivals).

It's likely that they're all relying on Meyer's information and running from there.

I just have trouble understanding why a 2011 recruit that "supposedly" did not have UK above UofL or UC is now a "lock" for UK in a matter of days.

There are a few explanations:

1. WWW got ahold of him;

2. People are exaggerating Teague's position regarding UK;

3. He is actually a "done deal" to UK; or

4. There is nothing to this........right now.

I'm unsure what to think at this point.

I will say that all the reports that Teague is a "done deal to UK" just sounds really fishy. What kind of "deal" is there? Haha.

I would've said, "Teague has decided on UK," rather than it's a "deal to UK."

Matt James was supposedly an OSU lock days before NSD, at least according to espn and some national guys. We'll see what happens.

IMO, when there are so many people in the know, it is likely no one knows. Teague will decide when he feels it is right for him, and could change his mind multiple times before then. I would not count out UC as Mick will not be outworked. Just my opinion, no inside sources.

Calipari obviously is a helluva recruiter. There's no bigger name in college basketball than Kentucky. UL has the name Pitino associated with it. The only coach at this time that has taken 3 teams to the Final Four. Though Calipari is going to match that. If UC gets Teague Mick deserves MAJOR kudos.

Calipari's previous final fours have all been vacated due to recruiting violations and other poor decisions.

Great recruiter, but slime.

If the NCAA had any integrity Cal would be out, and USC would lose 5-8 football scholarships for four years.

I don't think anyone can be 100% sure when he will make his announcement, even big time writers, my sources, or hell even his family. But I like when he does it will send shock waves and that's all I'm saying right now.

By the sounds of it Teague will be going to UK. Surely not the shock waves you were referring to is it?

While we're talking about Calipari and his success in recruiting, I'd like to get some opinions on this question:

Do his previous players care that their tremendous tournament runs and conference titles get stricken from the record after a couple years? I would imagine a Derrick Rose might not care because he got what he wanted out of it (in the league)...but what about everybody else on the team? Is it, or should it be a factor in their decision?
