I believe things are looking good for UC. Everything I'm hearing says Bearcats are team to beat for Obekpa. I always caution, this is recruiting and things change by the minute.

not sure why people think jackson and obekpa are the same player. obekpa has no offensive game. jackson actually has a handful of moves on the block and can put the ball on the floor a bit. he is a much better offensive player than people give him credit for.

When Jackson puts the ball on the floor it quickly becomes a turnover. And while he has a couple post moves, he doesn't finish them and most teams realize that he always pump fakes first. I don't doubt he has more offensive game than Obekpa, but I also don't think that says a lot. Jackson is a 4, Obekpa is more of a 5 so I agree with you that they aren't the same player.

when jackson puts it on the floor, i agree that there is a great liability that he travels. i don't know that we were watching the same player this year. anyone who watched jackson knows he had a number of post moves and finished well later in the year when he he utilized his moves. he didn't always use the moves- he was obviously hot and cold in terms of offensive output- but he did display ability on that end of the floor.

chris obekpa literally has no offensive game. outside of a putback, he will do nothing offensively if he gets a touch within the offense. his offensive game is literally nonexistent.

He is not as far behind offensively as some think. He needs to improve his footwork but he isn't a disaster. Plus, he can change the complexion of a game defensively.

JJ is not a bad offensive player at all, i actually think he is a great passer, he gets to the rim tremendously, but have you ever seen him take a shot from the foul line extended, ive said previously he needs to work on that, because right now as a shooter he is one dimensional, but don't get me wrong he had like 4 tip ins against ohio state and did a great job with that all year, he judges the ball off of the rim very well he just needs a jump shot, and idk if you have seen any of the highlight videos from obekpa, but offensively he is the same exact thing. he gets to the rim by cutting and slashing to the rim and he judges the ball well off of shots for put back dunks or tip ins.

A number of post moves? I agree, we were watching different players. The vast majority of Jackson's points came off of put backs.

he doesn't have multiple moves, but why have multiple when he has a great go to move, his up and under is an amazing move, to be honest i don't want to see justin jackson taking jump shots anyways, thats a terrible shot for him. It's not a knock on jj when people say obekpa is the same player as jj and its not a knock on obekpa ether, thats a complement to eachother, they are both good players. And thank god we don't have big men that think that they can shoot, its gonna be nice not having a sikes, thomas, gates that are 6'11 but play on the perimeter, these guys are big guys and they know they are big guys, and thats what we need.

Enough about talking about jackson, I can not wait to see when obekpa signs with us, what website do think will have it first so i can check it out!

We’re hearing that Cincinnati has emerged as the favorite for Our Savior New American big man Chris Obekpa. The 6-foot-9 shot blocking machine is also considering St. John’s and Oregon. Many scouts have compared Obekpa to NBA star Tyrus Thomas. The 2012 center would likely start immediately for the Bearcats next season in place of the graduated Yancy Gates.- Jon Rothstein

Jon is a great follow. Loves the bearcats too. All those things sound great. They all seem like the best possible case.

I am not sure it matters how good of a low post move JJ has...he's not really going to be playing the 5 (much if at all). I don't think he is horrible at finding a way to make low post buckets and/or slashing. Work on the handle a bit and refine his low post move(s). He will get in there some at the 4 to make those moves but not a lot. I don't see us clogging the lane with TWO offensively challenged bigs at the same time. I think we are going to want to keep it (lane) open for our three returning starting guards.

Obepka...if you are listening...UC fans would LOVE to have you. We have been known for defense and physical play for some 20 years now. You would no doubt add to that identity.
