I believe things are looking good for UC. Everything I'm hearing says Bearcats are team to beat for Obekpa. I always caution, this is recruiting and things change by the minute.
not sure why people think jackson and obekpa are the same player. obekpa has no offensive game. jackson actually has a handful of moves on the block and can put the ball on the floor a bit. he is a much better offensive player than people give him credit for.
When Jackson puts the ball on the floor it quickly becomes a turnover. And while he has a couple post moves, he doesn't finish them and most teams realize that he always pump fakes first. I don't doubt he has more offensive game than Obekpa, but I also don't think that says a lot. Jackson is a 4, Obekpa is more of a 5 so I agree with you that they aren't the same player.
when jackson puts it on the floor, i agree that there is a great liability that he travels. i don't know that we were watching the same player this year. anyone who watched jackson knows he had a number of post moves and finished well later in the year when he he utilized his moves. he didn't always use the moves- he was obviously hot and cold in terms of offensive output- but he did display ability on that end of the floor.
chris obekpa literally has no offensive game. outside of a putback, he will do nothing offensively if he gets a touch within the offense. his offensive game is literally nonexistent.

We’re hearing that Cincinnati has emerged as the favorite for Our Savior New American big man Chris Obekpa. The 6-foot-9 shot blocking machine is also considering St. John’s and Oregon. Many scouts have compared Obekpa to NBA star Tyrus Thomas. The 2012 center would likely start immediately for the Bearcats next season in place of the graduated Yancy Gates.- Jon Rothstein
I am not sure it matters how good of a low post move JJ has...he's not really going to be playing the 5 (much if at all). I don't think he is horrible at finding a way to make low post buckets and/or slashing. Work on the handle a bit and refine his low post move(s). He will get in there some at the 4 to make those moves but not a lot. I don't see us clogging the lane with TWO offensively challenged bigs at the same time. I think we are going to want to keep it (lane) open for our three returning starting guards.
Obepka...if you are listening...UC fans would LOVE to have you. We have been known for defense and physical play for some 20 years now. You would no doubt add to that identity.
Bill Koch says it is likely to come later this month or early may
