yep, wishing a kid fails just because he attends a different school shows your class, or lack thereof. Granted, I want UC to destroy SJU's when they play each other but hope Obekpa does well when they don't play each other.
 
I wish Mr. Obekpa the best of luck at St. Johns, until we play them of course. I can see JJ guarding him this year and Jackson is only going to be getting better defensively and offensively. Obekpa wasnt known for offense and we will be more of a perimeter team this year so when we do play them I see little to no impact from Obekpa(if he is even eligible). I am not worried and bottom line is that UC is a top 25 team without him and after everything that has happened over the past decade thats something to be proud of.

This quote is strangely reassuring. Even though we didn't get him, I like that Mick drew a line in the sand and applied resources elsewhere when it didn't seem like it was going to go his way. Mick seems good at putting the nonsense behind and getting on to the next challenge.

I think how we match up against teams like St. John's and others with defensive minded, lanky, shot blocking, low post players will be interesting. With our collection of guards and guard/wing players we should be able to spread the floor and pull him away from the basket leaving lots of room to drive. If JJ can develop a 10-15ft jumper at least enough that other teams would have to respect it that could pull post players away from the basket leaving lots of room for back door cuts and slashing drives.

Lavin isnt dirty. He cant be cheating. Cant be. He would be the worst cheater of all time.

St Johns has sucked bad.

We have been a 6 seed the last 2 years.

I'm not sure you realize but SJU plays matchup zones most of the time. SJU won't be spread out leaving room to drive. In addition, SJU has a collection of top notch guards and wings too. SJU's roster looks to be scary good this year and very deep, even if young. Obekpa was the perfect fit because that shotblocking presence in the middle really allows the rest of the guards and wings to be more aggressive in the matchup zones. Main point is that SJU's defenses won't be spread-out beause they are not designed that way.

FYI, Lavin's SJU team finished AHEAD of Cincy in the Big East regular season 2 years ago. Last year he had to replace 12 scholarship players and SJU still split games with Cincy.

As far as I know, Telep hadn't commented in it multiple times. His last comment was a month ago when a bearcat fan asked if obekpa had academic questions where Telep simply answered "yes". That said, it was a month ago and I'm not sure how advanced Telep's knowledge is of Obekpa's academic situation anyway. There has been nothing concrete about Obekpa having academic issues. I'm not denying that there could be something, but haven't heard anything concrete.
 
Yet if Chris had picked uc i'm sure he wouldn't have any academic issues, its comical the sour grapes that comes from this site. But hey you guys did grab lance from us and that paid off lol

Was that suppose to be sarcastic? Big East newcomer of the year and has been helpful in us getting recruits in NYC.

He was a good pickup for us. Not great. But good.
