Just went and read some stories on Lavin when he was at UCLA. Questionable recruiting tactics. Racked up great recruiting classes but his coaching and development were severely questioned. Basically won games on talent alone, like Calipari. Really can't coach a lick from the many articles I read. Was pushed out of UCLA because he had the best talent in the PAC10 yearly but won only one PAC10 title. Also fear of NCAA investigation.

SJU will get investigated soon. NCAA is putting up with this crap less and less.

Obekpa would be smart to steer clear of SJU. Trouble ahead.

Even better, read about cronin under huggins and the fact that he will bolt cincy for first real job that comes along, hearing his name for some big 12 jobs oh well

Bringing up alleged questionable recruiting tactics ( which he was never investigated for ) is the same as bringing up Huggins questionable tactics in the past. It was in the past. I got news for you , every major school has some sort of questionable recruiting practices from time to time. Every school!! Cincy pays players the same as every other team. If you don't believe that then you are just plain naive. Mick Cronin like Lavin has been questioned in the past for poor game coaching skills. I happen to believe that it's the opposite with him and that Cronin is a good coach. I'm trying to understand your point with your posts. Do you think Obekpa will read your posts and see the light ? Maybe thank you at a press conference when he chooses Cincy? It's pointless .

HAHA Cronin isn't going anywhere buddy. NC State tried to give him a significant increase than what he was making here last year. He's stated he isn't going anywhere. He has a young daughter and has stated he isn't moving anytime soon.

A city where the only show about it is wkrp lol

1717...what would u say that u bring to this site? Are u a fan of the bearcats? If not, isn't there another website that you can spam?

C'mon mods, this site and thread are getting out of hand...would really hate to stop reading this board, but lately BCN seems to have better postings and input

Cronin is the best coach in the big east and probably the country. When he's through at uc, we will win multiple national championships and have multiple poy's.

Sju will get disciplined by the NCAA very soon.

There goes the last bit of intelligent conversation. Thanks for that. Can we move on to pertinent info on the topic instead of who's the biggest tool? I haven't posted on here in a long time but I'm really intrigued to find out where Obekpa will land. Of all the schools recruiting him we seem to be the only program with a top 25 ranking and returning solid upperclassmen. It seems to be a no brainer for everyone involved, yet this is still dragging on.
Adam Zagoria seems to be in SJU's corner (understandably since he's from that area right?). Other than speculating on why he hasn't signed, why does he think it's ok to say that an incident with players that were never charged has a bearing on Obekpa's decision? I wish this kid would just make up his mind so we can move on with a solid shot blocker that would thrive on our defensive-first team or move on to kids that want to be a part of this winning program.

No, actully never had a problem with uc until some fans started talking shit once obekpa started leaning towards st john's then it was cry cry, lavin this lavin that

Trust me we have lost out on plenty of recruits, last year anderson was a heavy lean for sju then went to ucla, we did'nt bash howland same with you guys and lance we never accused uc of anything.

As well you shouldn't be. Cronin has built a very good team and I don't see it on the downswing anytime soon. The posters who are downing St. John's should actually understand the landscape of college basketball before making these statements. St.John's is in the top 10 wins all time and until a 7 year blip with Norm Roberts was a perennial NCAA Tourney team. I'm in no ways comparing it to your recent success , but merely pointing out that you are talking about a great program. Make those comments about a Rutgers type program but not St John's. You haven't lost Obekpa yet , so the posters can save the sour grape Lavin is a cheater thing . I hope you guys have a great season and look forward to playing you guys in the future.

I should say that I really don't have an issue with St. Johns (outside of that uninformed poster, 1717). Honestly, I think I speak for many UC fans when I say that we don't pay much attention to St. John's. It's nothing against the program and it's tradition, it has more to do with the size of the league, the rivalries we already have, and that fact that St. John's hasn't been a player in the conference recently. I really don't know much about St. John's and find it comical when a fan of another program starts spewing inaccurate stuff about UC like 1717 did. Most of us appreciate the views of other fans, especially during game week. We are very fortunate to have Mick as our coach and he has done a good job. The fact that UC is his alma mater doesn't hurt our position in being able to hold onto him. It will be interesting to see what happens with St. Johns this year since It seems like they will be young again and the Big East seems to chew up and spit out young teams.

St john's will be much improved. Kind of easy to do considering we played with 6 players next year.

^This. I actually never minded St. John's. Two years ago they were fun to watch with Hardy and Kennedy. I think they could have been dangerous in the tournament if Kennedy didn't get hurt.

1717, UC fans understand that we aren't going to win every recruiting battle. But you have to understand we have been considered the leader ever since he visited in February. We kept waiting and waiting and waiting for him to verbal. Cronin and assistant coach Darren Savino visited him at Our Savior numerous times. Mick was the only head coach watching him in Vegas a month or two ago when Obekpa played his first tournament with New Heights. Nobody else was even aware he was suiting up in Vegas and Mick was right there. I think we have the right to be frustrated.

Lavin already announced his recruiting class. You really only do this if you are certain you won't sign anyone else. Obekpa tweeted one day asking his followers where he should go out of UC, Oregon, and Providence. St. John's was considered to be in the "also considering" category. And then boom! St. John's is now considered the favorite? If you don't understand why UC fans aren't happy or skeptical of Lavin, then I don't know what to tell you.

In the past couple years we've lost some big recruiting battles (Burke to Michigan, Kemba to UCONN, Teague to UK, Hammons to Purdue, White to Kansas, Ratliffe to Missouri). All of these cases were understandable because the programs were simply better all-around choices for them. Burke started as a freshman, Kemba and Teague won national championships, and Ratliffe played 35+ minutes a game for Missouri. What are the advantages St. John's has over UC? Location, and the fact that one of his friends is going there? That's all I can think of.

Anyway sorry for the rant, but go back to your St. John's boards, if you even have any.

I don't get certain posters not getting how this recruiting stuff works. You act like this is the first time you were favorites for a 17 year old kid who changed his mind. Say it again people . The kid is 17 years old. These kid change their minds like we change underwear. You know how many times St john's was the leader for a kid only to see him change his mind? Please act like you have been here before. It's still not over, but some of you are crying foul like you just lost the national championship. Sounding like a girl by saying " but Mick was the only one to see Obekpa at school" . Please the kid is 17 and doesn't know what he wants to do. The answer to your last statement is we do have a number of St. John's message boards. Good stuff if you get a chance to check them out. Stop acting like St john's is some mom and pop school .

People are just mad about this 1717 guy. I've had nothing but respect for st j and I would definitely say most agree.
