'13 DC SG DeShaun Morman (Commit)

BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

KJ or Caupain could be asked to do a year at prep school. They both are very young. Cronin said TC was only 16 and KJ 17. Not saying that will happen but it would be an option. There is no doubt that if Lawrence or Henry decide they want to be bearcats that the staff will figure out a way to allow that to happen...

Has he signed his LOI yet?

Edit: Andrew Force has tweeted that he won't sign the paperwork until next week, while at home.

What are the odds that Morman's signing will effect Henry's decision? As I understand it we were already in pretty good with Henry.

Mormon gives you a good shooter with intangibles similiar to Parker in that he can guard multiple positions and is very strong physically. This is a good pick up and I agree if Henry or Lawrence (my choice) were to pick UC it would all work out. However, with Gaines, Jackson, Rubles, Nyarsuk and Strickland the low post is good for a year and you'll have Gaines and Strickland for two. If UC sat pat it wouldn't shock me either and go heavy on bigs in 14. Until I see or hear otherwise I believe they will pursue another big because I think if Kilpatrick has a good year he will be gone. That makes the Morman signing even bigger. Plus it works out well with Henry and Lawrence signing late.

Agreed. It's actually kind of good that Henry and Lawrence are waiting to sign late, cause we'll probably know what S K is going to do at that point. It works out well.

Morman is the kid I really wanted. But the more I read about Caupain and KJ, and even Strickland.......the more I like. This could end up being our best recruiting class under Mick.

Morman committed to UC, per bearcatsnation.com (and probably bearcatlair before that).
here's the link-http://bearcatsnation.com/2012/11/16/prolific-scorer-deshaun-morman-commits-to-cincinnati/
edit-link not working, go to bearcatsnation.com and it is the first article. Or you can find Chad Brendel's article on www.cincinnati.247sports.com.

I love this class because it is targeted to a style of play. Something Mick has been working toward since his arrival. These aren't just guys being recruited, they are guys being recruited to a system. Multi-positional, long, athletic guys that btw can play basketball. There is also an element of toughness in guys like Caupain and Mormon.

Strickland could end up being a steal with his injury behind him and the increased athleticism and quickness due to his weight loss.

With Cash and Parker gone next season (Kilpatrick early entry?) it was imperiative for the Cats to restock the perimeter and they have done that very well.

Johnson gives you quickness with great length. Caupain a guy that can hurt you in a variety of ways including at the free throw line. Mormon is intense on both ends of the court and along with Caupain is a scorer. All 3 can play at least 2 positions. The Cats may take a step back win wise due to their youth next season but the future remains bright. If I didn't have concerns about pg next year I wouldn't even say that.

Hopefully GG can alleviate some of that as the season goes forward, or JD, but it looks like my prediction JD would be groomed for the 2 is coming true.

I like this commit because Morman IMO may have the potential to be the best out of all three guards in this class. However, I'm a bit "concerned" that they still need more size in this class. I, along with everyone else, still want Henry or Lawrence but it will be tough to pull out b/c of the scholarship situation. Maybe they wait around for that, maybe they don't. But right now UC has three guards committed that are 6'4" or less. Size isn't everything but it does matter (that's what she said). Again, it's a moot point if they get Henry or Lawrence but that's going to be an up hill battle.

Nyarsuk 7'0", Strickland 6'10", Jackson 6'8", Rubles 6'7", Gaines 6'10", Thomas 6'7", I think next year size won't be an issue. I do think if Kilpatrick sees he'll be drafted that he will leave due to his age and daughter, opening a scholly and another big will be signed but '14 has to yield some size to be sure.

I think whenever you can get a high quality BIG or PG you get him. It's not easy to "load up" on BIGS in one class (unless you use Juco or are KY). I am not sure we have even been able to nab a 4 star plus high school PF or C since Gates. Including 2013 that's 5 years. If we can get Henry or Lawrence...we gotta make room somehow IMO.

Agreed, but Lawrence/Henry would be awesome to get. It is good to get Morman because who knows if Lawrence/Henry would've/will commit/ed to us. I think Mick has learned his lesson on waiting for big time players who wait until the very end of recruiting to commit. You don't want to get stuck scrambling at the last minute trying to fill the last scholly. We caught a break this year by snatching up David after the Obekpa miss, but you don't want to be relying on that year in and year out.

Signing officially announced:

“Deshaun is a Bearcat. He is a competitor and I love his toughness,” Cronin said. “He can shoot the three and is a lockdown defender, which he loves to do and is very rare for a young player. Deshaun has a passion for the game and I really believe he is going to be a great player for us in the future.”
