Yessssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!! I smell another great year next year! Guyn can suck all he wants, but we still will have this guy, SK, Jackson, Big David, JD3 will still only be a sophomore, the future is bright, Bearcat fans! Can't wait to go to Deveroes now! Like I said, I love this year's team, but next year could definitely be even better, especially if Strickland has real post moves and Lawrence does well.

All the people discarding Gelawn Guyn are foolish. That's all I will say.

He might develop, but I like JD3 much more. Guyn is a solid role player, but he makes too many boneheaded mistakes for my liking. I was really only worried about him if we didn't land this kid, we really needed another solid offensive weapon for next year!

Two weeks from now: "Just getting word now via telegram, the Bearcats have landed Lawrence!" -Bill Koch

I understand you on this and feel that koch isn't winning any Pulitzers any time soon, but he can't operate the way pay recruiting sites do. Think of all the wrong and misleading info that gets put out there. One of the pay bearcat sites teased a UC to the ACC announcement a couple months back. A real journalist would be out of the job for it. I would like to see Koch profile the kids that UC does offer a little better with updates on their stats during the year.

This is incredible.

With that said, I think the scholarship situation will work itself out. No one will be kicked off of the team or asked to transfer.

I really believe that Maine may stay at least two years, and I also believe that Killa will return for his senior season.

I really couldn't care less about the Super Bowl, now.

Evan Daniels: "He could even be a bigger deal than Lance (Stephenson) because he may not be a one-and-done-guy."

Evan Daniels: "He's a guy who may feel he can have an impact on the program for a couple years."

Daniels says Lawrence is a "tremendous get" for UC. Says he can start for day one at UC.

Wasn't there talk of Morman having some grade issues? Is that still the case?

The good thing in reference to the guard situation, is that there will be plenty of competition. Adversity breeds monsters. With Rubles, Lawrence and perhaps Thomas, we're going to have ball handlers who are 6'7+ and a ton of guards. Should be a match up nightmare. I'm just hoping someone can take Cheikh's place as a suitable center. He's been stuffing the stats lately. I think Nyarsuk might but we'll have to wait and see. My only concern with him is lower body strength. I hope Gaines gets some work in.

Not to mention 5 consecutive final 4's in the late 50's early 60's with 3 Nat. champ appearances and 2 national titles....sheesh!

As was mentioned earlier, as obvious as it was I'll go ahead and mention it, I was talking about in the Cronin era.

He's going to have to make a significant jump. I don't think he gets the chance, I think he get outplayed next year and stays a backup his entire career.

My hope is that either he or Davis will be good enough to start. I like having veterans on the floor.

For all you guys around during the early Huggs teams, I envision Guyn being the A.D. Jackson, and possibly Caupain or someone else unseating him halfway through the season like Van Exel did. And please don't twist my words and say I'm comparing either player to those guys. I'm comparing the situation, not the players.

I've been reading this board for about a year or two, just have never created a user name to post. I enjoy reading everyone's opinion and want to get involved in the conversations.

Jermaine Lawrence is a huge get for UC (as everyone already knows). Not looking past this season, but I can't wait to see how Mick implements a 6'9'' guy into the offense that can handle the ball and get to the rim with the ability to finish. I really think Lawrence is the key that takes UC to the next level. Not just by his ability, but also by the idea that Cronin can convince these 5 star kids to come to UC. To me, it's a sign that UC basketball has again reached the point where they can compete for these 5 star guys in recruiting.

Continuing with the current conversation, Guyn frustrates me at times, but I still believe he will be a very effective PG during his time at UC. Sure he makes some dumb plays (see any freshman or sophomore in the country), but he also makes the type of plays that make me believe he will be a solid contributor the next two years. He has that lengthy PG body and athleticism you can't teach. He is the definition of that "annoying" defender that just won't go away and is always in your face. If I were dribbling the ball up the floor, Guyn is the last guy on UC's team that I want guarding me. He has shown the ability to get to the bucket and knock down shots. He needs to eliminate the bonehead plays and I think that comes with time.

I hope you are right. More than one player has made significant jumps when it becomes "their" time. As you say he is terrific on D so he will be given every opportunity to be the pg next year.

Am I the only one that feels this type of defense gets him into foul trouble? Don't get me wrong I love a pesky PG, but I feel he hasn't learned when to draw back. Every time he sees any significant time he gets into foul trouble. I think he can be a good guard that plays solid defense and sets up the offense, especially with two future NBA players in SK and Lawrence. But I don't expect him to be much of a scorer. He just needs to learn when to be aggressive on defense and when not to and he will be adequate, if not more.

I just hope Caupain can come in and be ready to see significant time if Guyn doesn't progress as we all hope.

Huge, huge, HUGE get for the Cats!!!! After all the close misses in the past few years, we have all been conditioned to expect the worst. But Cronin and Savino put in the time, and the good guys won this time. Lawrence also visited for the Wright State game, and the staff had the foresight to have other parents (SK's dad and JP dad) at the game to show Jermaine's parents that there is a family atmosphere here and that the staff will take good care of their son. I'll remember Super Bowl Sunday 2013 not for the exciting game between the Ravens and Niners, but for the Jermaine Lawrence signing. Yesterday for Jermaine Larwence Sunday!!!.

Does anybody know if The Big O was anyway involved in Jermaine's recruiting?

Somebody mentioned in an earlier post that Lawrence was a big fan and I was just curious as to whether a meeting was set up between the two or if Oscar would even go out of his way to do so.

If Sk stays another year adding Lawrence will absolutely cause opponents nightmares. Whoever runs the PG will not have to do as much as Cash this year. Rubles will have someone to consistently pass to when he slashes to the hoop. Someone with good hands and can finish. Sk will have someone who he can play the two man game with. Can you imagine Jermaine taking the foul line pass in the middle of the Cuse zone turning shooting, driving to the hoop or kicking out to the wing. This signing will also elevate the games of Sanders and Thomas. We are losing two great guards in Cash and Parker that have meant alot to our program but there replacements are a very talented group. We will be long and physical. If Caupin and SK start at guard we will be 6'3 and 6'4 in the backcourt. We will have depth and experience to go along with our youth and athletisim. Great get by Mick and Savino.

No idea but if I took an educated guess I would say not much if at all any. Just due to the fact its Big O and he seems pretty private. Also I doubt it, due to any possible recruiting violations as well. But after he signs, he can get as involved with Maine as he would like. I have always said I would like to see Oscar be more involved with our players since he is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game. But, I am glad he still comes to majority of the games, mad respect for that man. As Stephen A. would say on 1st take, Oscar is a baaad bad man!
