oh no, uc backed off. why would uc want or need better players for? uc is clearly at a place to offer and pull ship offers. just look at our 14 class..

UC was a long shot at best for this kid. They threw their hat in the ring and that was pretty much it. As for the other two guards, don't you find it interesting that the timing of Mormon becoming eligible directly corresponds to UC not being mentioned with either one after recent reports of Carrington wanting to commit and UC being a finalist for Terrell? Don't you find it interesting that neither one ever made it to campus? Think about it, if UC didn't back off we would have at least gotten a visit from one or both guys. I'm not saying UC gets any of these guys but it is pretty easy to see what happened this time around.

Yep. Who knows what would have happened with Terrell but the fact that he visited RI, Providence, and OK State and not us is pretty telling, especially after he claimed he had a good relationship with Savino.

And Snider's dad said he wanted to take an unofficial here, but things don't always go as planned. He also said he was going to visit UCONN and Michigan State - neither happened. If people really think Snider wanted to visit and Mick said no, I don't know what to tell you. That simply wouldn't happen with a player like Snider.

I understand people can be frustrated with our lack of commits, but we have two great looking prospects slated to visit this weekend. I'm sure Mick also has some tricks up his sleeve as far as bigs are concerned.

I see what your saying but don't stop recruiting Terrell and Carrington when Morman becomes eligible and then start recruiting a bunch of 2 year 2 star juco pg and sg ( Gray, Thomasson, Allen).

They are not recruiting them in the same breath. They are contingency players for the spring signing period. You have to have cards to play if something goes wrong. You never stop recruiting. If one of them wanted to commit to UC today it would not happen. The priority is the front court. They are going to exhaust every option there before adding a guard.

Then find some 3 or 4 star guards that are going to sign in the spring and go after them instead of having a team full of 2 year jucos.

Usually don't land guys you aren't actively recruiting...

Reading these recruiting threads is fun and at the same time very frustrating. It is frustrating because it looks like we are losing every recruit that we have talked to but I also understand that none of us really know what is going on behind closed doors. What also is frustrating is that everytime a recruit commits to another school all of a sudden we backed off or we were not really interested.

Chad, without naming names, were we really even recruiting guards that hard this year?

There were a few they were after hard including Terrell and Devin Mitchell because it didn't look good for Morman for a while. The initial ruling was that he was a non qualifier, but he went home and did some more work and eventually won his appeal. That is what changed the situation with Terrell and led to them canceling his visit and pulling out of his recruitment. Carrington was pretty much out of the picture after the July eval period. My guess is they would have found room for Mitchell if he wanted to come just because he is a high level shooter...

You can say and think what you want but there is no reason to pull Terrell's scholarship for any other reason than he didn't want to come to UC. He would be instant upgrade over at least 2 players on the team. We tried to add transfer guards with a full roster last year doesn't make sense to go after a guy for 4 years then pull off at last second.

You are wrong. Not sure what else to tell you. As soon as Morman was ruled eligible the official visit for Terrell was cancelled. That is exactly how it went down...

Yep, why would we want or need a top 50 player who we had been after for 5 years?

The official was cancelled by Terrell.

No, it wasn't. That is a fact. Sorry if it doesn't fit your narrative. Once Morman was qualified the focus turned to adding two forwards and a center. But since you won't listen to me telling you exactly how it played out, I'm done here...

I knew we all worried that Morman wouldn't qualify for this year, but am I correct in assuming that they feared Morman would not be eligible ever? I mean if he were to only wait a year to be eligible, then would it really make a difference in recruiting guys for 2014 as he would presumably do what he need to be ready by 2014? Or were they worried about him going elsewhere for 2014 had he not been eligible? I know your LOI becomes null and void once your declared ineligible thus you can commit anywhere the following year. Just curious to the logic of thinking here.

Well, let's just hope Mick is right and all the recruiting services are wrong. The strategy right now seems to be turning down 4-star recruits for 3-star guys.

If he didn't win his appeal he would have had to go the JUCO route as last year was his post grad season. He would not have been an option for 2014 and 2015 is a long way away...

You will be glad Morman is here when all is said and done.

I guess so! I mean if we passed on Terrell and Carrington JUST because Mormon qualified it shows you how much the staff likes this kid. Why do I say that? Because we have SK, Davis, Johnson, Thomas, Sanders, Rubles, Lawrence, etc...who COULD all potentially be competing for time with him at the 2 and 3 spot. The idea that THIS particular recruit qualifying had this big of an impact on recruiting is stunning to me.

I wonder if the same would have happened if Mormon was already a sure thing but Johnson was questionable?
