Mick is handcuffed when it comes to recruiting. The fact is our arena is a dinosaur compared to most programs. I mean hell I live 5 minutes from Middle Tennessee State and wouldn't put our arena up against theirs. Not only that but we play in the AAC. Major renovation/new arena and a new conference and I would be willing to bet that you'd see an immediate uptick in recruiting. At this point we are where we are. With that said we are going to be good next year, with a chance to be very good. I trust that the 2016 class is going to be a good one. Mick has an eye for talent (Cobb, Deberry) guys we hadn't heard of who were vital to our success last year. I mean hell we beat a solid B10 and played Kentucky tougher than most with the same team we have coming back. That alone is reason for optimism in my book. Going to be a fun team to watch next year.

Be realistic, when is UC going to have both a new arena and be in a P5 conference? Of course with both of those things any school in the AAC would see upticks in recruiting.

I don't think Mick recruited Cobb and had to be talked in to offering him.

I think the NCST game was the most impressive win last season and agree there is optimism for next year, it is the following years that concern me

Our style of play is what kills recruiting the most imo. Last 5 classes have 19 players contributing ONE season of 10 ppg from any of those players. If we were developing guys for a pro-style game, we'd get recruits.

WHERE DID I SAY IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN? Just saying those are two huge problems when it comes to recruiting.

What is unrealistic about stating facts? I'm not saying those things are going to happen. Our arena SUCKS, schools across the country are getting new places to play or renovating older arena's and we need to do the same and do it quick. There is no reason at all that schools who are on a much lower level than us play in better. I hate to say it but I don't see P5 invite coming anytime soon so we have to do something. We will see what happens with the 2016 class but as of right now I think Mick is in on a lot of very solid players, we will see if he lands them.

You add those two things to ANY school and recruiting picks up sans Gonzaga.

Mick is always early on and in on certain players and just like Ward, they think they are one thing and the other happens. This time last year was Mick and UC in on big time 15' players? And where did Beasley etc. go?

I agree with you about the struggles and have already said pretty much the same thing earlier in this thread along with being on second tier tv stations.

UC or the city of Cincinnati are not what I would call quick to do anything at all.

What difference does that make? If Mick didn't want him he wouldn't be here. You may remember Huggins had to be talked into takihg Steve Logan.

RENOVATION IS ON THE WAY, RIGHT. P5 will be more interested in football renovation

But you can't say UC is not working toward that, because they are. The new Nippert opens this fall and we've seen the renderings for the renovated shoe, not to mention the new 2 mil locker room. Most experts consider UC the next man in, but according to a lot of posters here we should not even try to move up.

The point was that Mick did not spot Cobb early, not that he got him. Obviously Mick has more focus on offense by getting Evans, Jenifer and Cobb and pushing for Rowsey but he wanted to play PG strictly.

UC is 7 years behind regarding Nippert. UL moved from the BE with UC and since has leapfrogged UC big time. If UC gave ANY P5 school an advantage or made them more money they would not be in the AAC right now.

UL would not be such a big dog if Louisville had the NFL and MLB. They are the only game in town. Nobody has to choose whether to buy UL season tickets or the local NFL team. That's a major advantage that UC does not have and can't control.

Papa John's took UL to another level

With that being said, if UC is at a major disadvantage that they have no control over and a saturated entertainment market why would a P5 conference take them?

Ward was a surprise loss for Mick. He was certain Ward was a UC lean over Michigan State but things didn't work out. It happens in recruiting everyday multiple times. He has close relationships with a high number of big time recruits in the 2016 class. It wouldn't be a shock to see him grab 1-2 five star guys.
I am a Mick fan, but it would very much be a surprise to get even one 5-star next year.

What are you basing this on? Your deep inside connection with Mick? It does happen in recruiting, but please quit pretending to have some sort of inside info.

Mick's not grabbing 1-2 five start guys for 2016. Remember the hype that Mick was focusing on a stud in 2015 and some people bought it? As if he wasn't already trying to land the best players possible. He tries, they all do. But it needs to improve.
